Eco-Friendly Solutions for Restaurants

Introduction Pelican Solutions has developed its line of environmentally friendly XPEL products to address issues in the transportation, restaurant & poultry industries. They focus on the following: Odour Management: By eliminating odour, our goal is to provide the safest and healthiest environment for our hospitality industry clients, their employees customers and suppliers. Bacteria Control: We want to provide the our hospitality industry clients with environmentally friendly products that helped control bacteria (Salmonella Enterica, E. Coli, Campylobacter, and others) in their facilities. Our goal is to help our customers develop best-practice protocols so they can provide their customers with the cleanest, healthiest and safest dining experience possible. Fruit Fly Control: XPEL Original changes the fruit fly s environment in the restaurant. The fruit fly is seeking sustenance. By changing the environment, we reduce the restaurant s appeal to the fruit fly as a source of food. Independent Third Party Testing: Prior to bringing XPEL products to market we have obtained test data that has been verified by an independent third party. All XPEL product test data provided in this presentation is the result of tests conducted by an independent third party.

About Us Pelican Solutions, LLC was founded in Pittsburgh, PA by John Paul and William O Connor in 2010 with the objective of being an industry leader in eco-friendly and revolutionary infection prevention technology Pelican Solutions XPEL products are currently being used in the Agriculture, Healthcare, Sports, Transportation and Hospitality industries to reduce odor and inhibit the spread of disease while addressing major environmental concerns such as toxicity and user safety.

We Are a Solutions Company In the restaurant industry our products work in specific areas of the operation: o Drains o Traps o Refreshment Area o Restrooms o Floors With the operators input we create cost effective solutions to meet their challenges We know the capability of our products. Food service operators know their business requirements. We listen. We visit each account so that we can understand its business. o Fast Food o White Table Top o Upscale Restaurant

Strategy We focus on a limited number of products that would provide the hospitality industry with solutions to: o Cleaning, Fruit Fly and Odour Control: XPEL Original o Bacteria Control: XPEL Clean & Seal

Product: XPEL TM Original Over the past three years, Pelican-Solutions and its technical partners worked together to develop an environmentally-friendly microbial product XPEL Original that provides a range of solutions. XPEL Original addresses the challenges of odor, insects and sanitation in a way that is safe for both employees and customers. It is easy to apply, requiring minimal training for individuals involved in the restaurant s operation. And most important, XPEL Original is extremely effective in reducing odors and is proven to control fruit flies in all restaurant operations. The 12-oz XPEL Original BOV ( Bag On Valve ) dispenser offers 360 continuous spray at any angle using air, not chemicals, as its propellant. XPEL Original is available in a 64 oz container that is a tilt & measure product. The tilt & measure container was developed for the QSR accounts. It is easy to apply and it dispenses the correct amount (4 oz.) of XPEL Original every time. No waste, ease of application, etc. It is the Right Product at the Right Price and it is Eco-friendly

XPEL Original - composition The ingredients in XPEL Original are naturally-occurring microorganisms, enzymes and surfactants. The primary active agent in XPEL Original is surfactin a very powerful surfactant and a natural antibiotic. Surfactin is produced by the bacteria Bacillus subtilis 1 which is found in water, soil, air, and decomposing plant residue around the world. In the course of various studies of its properties, surfactin was found to exhibit effective antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal characteristics. 2 Bacillus subtilis is considered a benign organism as it does not possess traits that cause disease. It is not considered pathogenic nor is it toxic to humans, animals, or plants. The potential risk associated with its use is low. 1 Source: Peypoux F, Bonmatin JM, Wallach J. Recent trends in the biochemistry of Surfactin; Applied Microbiol Biotechnol. (1999) 51: Source: Pooja Singh and Swaranjit Singh Cameotra; Potential applications of microbial surfactants in biomedical sciences; Institute of Microbial Technology, Sector 39 A, Chandigarh , India.

Why use XPEL Original? XPEL Original is eco friendly and completely safe for use in controlling control bacteria, pathogens and fruit flies in a restaurant, while providing a healthy environment for employees and customers. It offers these benefits: o Controls bacteria growth of Salmonella Enterica, E. Coli and Campylobacter o Extremely low toxicity; non-corrosive; readily biodegradable. o Scent Free o Dye Free EPA statement on Bacillus subtilis: Bacillus Subtilis is a ubiquitous bacterium commonly recovered from water, soil, air, and decomposing plant residue. The bacterium produces an endospore that allows it to endure extreme conditions of heat and desiccation in the environment. B. subtilis produces a variety of proteases and other enzymes that enable it to degrade a variety of natural substrates and contribute to nutrient cycling. However, under most conditions the organism is not biologically active but exists in the spore form (Alexander, 1977). B. subtilis is considered a benign organism as it does not possess traits that cause disease. It is not considered pathogenic or toxic to humans, animals, or plants. The potential risk associated with the use of this bacterium in fermentation facilities is low

XPEL Clean & Seal XPEL Clean & Seal is the eco-friendly option when it comes to disinfecting dining areas. XPEL Clean & Seal differs from other area sanitizers because it utilizes a physical rather than chemical kill to control mould, fungi, viruses and bacteria. Its molecular structure is like a series of positively-charged pins that attract pierce the cell walls of negatively-charged germs rather than poisoning them, which promotes the development of chemical-resistant super bugs. XPEL Clean & Seal forms a strong bond with any surface, creating an antimicrobial layer that provides long-term protection. XPEL Clean & Seal benefits: o Long term protection a single application lasts for days o Kills viruses, bacteria, mould, fungi o Prevents formation of mutated superbugs o Odourless; non-corrosive; does not stain surfaces o Extreme low toxicity safe for humans and the environment XPEL Clean & Seal BOV ( Bag On Valve ) dispenser offers 360 continuous spray at any angle using air, not chemicals, as its propellant. The BOV dispenser is non-flammable, non-combustible, recyclable & non-toxic

XPEL products are thoroughly tested, first in our own labs to provide proof-ofconcept; second by an independent third party lab, and finally with prospective clients in the field. Here is a list of the third party lab testing that is relative to the Hospitality industry o Escherichia Coli Marble Labs - March 7, 2013 o Campylobacter jejuni Marble Labs November 9,2012 o Salmonella Marble Labs - May 30, 2012 Testing

Salmonella White Paper A testing protocol was developed to study the effects of XPEL Plus a filtered version of XPEL Original on a sample of chicken litter from a farm in the US Midwest. The chicken litter sample was sterilized to eliminate any living organisms, then inoculated with Salmonella Enterica, and incubated to emulate the litter contaminated with this bacterium. The treatment was conducted, with the appropriate controls, to evaluate the survival rate of Salmonella Enterica when exposed to the XPEL product. The product was highly effective at eliminating the bacteria with remarkably quick results. The protocol s first check was at three hours following treatment. No bacteria was observed in the sample. All subsequent samples up to 96 hours showed zero growth of S. enterica. The treated sample was reinoculated at the end of the first 96 hour period and checked for another 96 hours where again no growth was observed. The protocol definitely demonstrates the ability of XPEL Plus to control Salmonella Enterica. The introduction of surfactin establishes a competitive environment for space and food source in which Salmonella Enterica cannot compete. Surfactin is not considered pathogenic or toxigenic to humans, animals, or plants.

Test Results Salmonella Enterica

Third Party Store Testing - Two Quick Service Restaurants Snaking Test: We initially applied XPEL Original at full strength to keep the restaurant s drains and pipes clean and free of backup from corn syrup, sugar, grease, etc. that clog the drains and pipes in a restaurant. Floor Test: We used XPEL Original to reduce slippery footing on floors in the dining room and the backroom. After treating the floor with XPEL Original, we cleaned the floors every day with a mild soap and water solution. The floors were less slippery for an extended period (minimum 60 days). Lighting Fixtures: We treated the light fixtures with XPEL Clean & Seal and they remained clear of fly fecal matter for 90 days. The operator is applying XPEL Clean & Seal every 60 days to the light fixtures based the results of the test. Both restaurants had similar test results from using the XPEL products

Third Party Store Testing Fruit Fly Control While using XPEL Original to keep the drains and piping clean of material buildup when we discovered that the test restaurants were not experiencing fruit flies while the base restaurants had an issue with the fruit flies. Fruit flies are primarily nuisance pests. However, they also have the potential to contaminate food with bacteria and other disease-producing organisms. 1 We are now servicing 72 QSR stores and all of the QSRs have the fruit fly issue under control. The Fruit Fly Test Results Were Accomplished By Changing the Environment: The fruit fly is seeking sustenance to survive and propagate. XPEL Original changed the fruit fly s environment, making it unpleasant. Eliminating Odour: Fruit flies are drawn to the decaying and fermenting fruit, vegetables, corn syrup, sugar, grease, etc. which are common in restaurants. The odour from the decaying and fermenting product draws the fruit flies to them as a food source. XPEL Original eliminates the odour; therefore the fruit flies cannot locate their food source. Food Source: The volume of water and food available in your restaurant s environment create perfect conditions for fruit flies to thrive. Most restaurants use water to clean their stores because it is the faster and more convenient than other options. However because water takes the path of least resistance, it flows into all available cracks and crevices usually taking grease and food debris with it. Thus numerous breeding sites are created allowing the fruit flies to get their start. The Bacillus Subtilis bacteria in the XPEL Original eliminates the fruit fly s food source.

Quick Service Restaurant Application Protocol: Floor Cleaning By using XPEL Original to clean the floors in the restaurant you receive two benefits. Improved safety benefit by making the floors less slippery. By adding XPEL Original to the cleaning solution you protect areas that are potential breeding grounds for fruit flies. o Seating Area: The recommended weekly treat ratio for the restaurant s seating area is eight ounces of XPEL Original to five gallons of water. After that, using a water and mild soap combination to clean the floors on a daily basis will continue to enable the bacillus subtilis bacteria to control the fruit fly breeding areas and consume grease that accumulates on the floor. o Food Preparation and Backroom Area - First Application: We recommend that you initially treat the floor in this area at full strength. Because of the high amount of grease on these floors, it will take the bacillus subtilis time to penetrate the grease and consume it. The initial treatment is thus very important to achieving grease reduction. Ongoing program: Inn addition to using a water and mild soap combination to clean the floors on a daily basis, we recommend that you treat the food preparation and backroom floors monthly with a 10:1 water to XPEL Original mixture to control fruit flies and maintain floor safety.

Quick Service Restaurant Application Protocol: Odour Elimination and Fruit Fly Control in Drains and Traps First week of treatment: Apply 4 oz of XPEL Original to all drains/traps that are potential fruit fly breeding areas every other day. Fruit Flies will migrate to the next breeding area when one has been treated and closed therefore you have to treat any drain that has the potential to be a breeding area. Current store drains that we are treating: Food Preparation Drain, Refreshment Drains (In-store and Drive Thru), Frappe Drain, Cafe Drain, Bulk Drain, Prep Sink, etc. Follow-up Schedule: Treat the drains on a weekly basis at 4 oz per drain. It would be beneficial to have the treatment be part of your weekly sanitation program. Please Note: All drains must be treated weekly as fruit flies have the ability to develop from egg to adult in as little as seven days. If you miss a week, you give the fruit flies an opportunity to repopulate. One female fruit fly will produce approximately 500 eggs in her 8-10-day lifespan. 1 Therefore, missing a treatment can quickly create a new fruit fly issue. 1 Source: The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment

Quick Service Restaurant Application Protocol: Lighting Fixtures We used XPEL Clean & Seal BOV spray to treat the lighting fixtures to prevent build up of fly fecal matter. The light fixture protocol was developed by a QSR General Manager. The General Manager was able to save hours of sanitation per week on cleaning the light fixtures & he was able to eliminate the fly fecal matter from his fixtures. Since then he has added the XPEL Clean & Seal BOV program to his advertising signage & display vehicles thus preventing the fly fecal matter build up on those items. Protocol: Clean the lights with a mild soap and water blend Let the fixtures dry completely. The fixtures must be thoroughly dry prior to spraying them with XPEL Clean & Seal BOV. To maximize performance move the XPEL Clean & Seal BOV from side to side from the surface that has to be protected. The XPEL Clean & Seal BOV canister can be placed in any position and it will dispense the XPEL Clean & Seal BOV in a uniform spray pattern. After applying, let it dry for 15 minutes and the fixture is clean and protected.
