2 Kosovo Transmission, System and Market Operator Established on 1 July 2006, KOSTT j.s.c is a public company, the shareholder of which is the Republic of Kosovo, through the Ministry of Economic Development. Kosovo Transmission, System and Market Operator KOSTT j.s.c. is a public utility responsible for planning, developing, maintaining and operating the Kosovo Electricity Transmission System, and for the Market Organization and Management of Electricity Marketing

3 Transmission Grid KOSTT is responsible for: 400 kv lines and 400/220 kv,400/110 kv substations 220 kv lines, 220/110 kv & 220/ MV substations 110 kv lines, 110/MV substations Interconnection Three 400 kv lines interconnected with FYROM, Serbia, Montenegro Two 220 kv lines with Albania, Serbia 3

4 Intensity of Transmission Investments Over the Years From 1990 until 2000, a full decade there were no investment in transmission network 4

6 Main Projects Implemented From are invested 116 M in the transmission infrastructure: 2 New 400/110 kv Substations- capacity 600 MVA New Metering Systems Increase of transformer capacities (3x150 MVA, 220/110kV). Substations refurbishment (modern Switch gear and protection relays). SCADA/EMS and IT Support for Market Operator Reinforcements on 110kV 6

10 Based on TNDP and relevant studies related to the transmission system development, some very important projects are foreseen with internal and regional impact on security and reliability of Transmission System 400 kv line Kosovo Albania with 1300 MVA capacity planned to be finished by kv line Kosovo Macedonia with 1300 MVA capacity planned to be finished by second line 10

13 Source of funds Until 2018 funds are provided On 23 September 2013 German Government,through the German Development Bank (KfW) approves the second loan, under soft credit conditions with the aim of funding six projects for the development of TN, in the amount of 23,5 m, of which 15,5 m with a repayment period of 15 years, and 8 m with a repayment period of 40 years, As well as additional grant funding by the European Commission, the amount of 7.3 million through the IPA programme 13

15 Challenge of Wind and Solar Integration Kosovo Transmission Network in terms of infrastructure and power flows provide sufficient capacity to integrate wind and solar generation, But in terms of balancing the system, these capacities with highly variable and difficult nature of predicting, can cause problems for Operator System, the fact that our electricity system currently is facing no sufficient regulating reserve Situation will be improved, if new generating capacities will be in operation, which would be associated with increased regulation reserves that will cover unexpected variability of generation from wind and solar turbines, or joint operation of systems in the region 15

16 Security of Supply -study On 26 March 2013, KOSTT organized a roundtable to present the Study on Security of Electricity Supply in Kosovo for next 30 years The study supported by the Government of Germany, through the German Development Bank KfW, and implemented by the advisory company Vattenfall/Germany. The objective of this Study was to analyse: a number of electricity demand development scenarios in the country, the adequacy of electricity generation, functionality of the electricity market, utilization of renewable sources, the impact of all such elements in the security of electricity supply in Kosovo up to also addresses the component of joint operation of our electricity system with the Republic of Albania, and its possibilities for providing secure electricity supply, while the results of such common operation show tendencies of decreasing electricity prices 16
