1 Frédéric Eychenne AIRBUS Environmental Affairs Towards a Sustainable Aviation The Airbus Approach
2 Background 2% The global aviation industry produces around 2% of all human-induced carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. 12 % Aviation is responsible for 12% of CO2 emissions from all transports sources, compared to 74% from road transport. 30 % Fuel represents around 30% of operating costs for Airlines Aviation Traffic will double in the coming 15 years! Aviation Traffic for more than 2 billion people and over 40MTonnes of cargo every year! Fuel consumption & CO2 emissions will more than double within the next 25 years! Source ATAG
3 ICAO and International Organizations are committed for the aviation sector The Kyoto Protocol includes only domestic emissions of aviation CO2 International emissions of aviation shall be tackled under ICAO authority IATA emissions roadmap (2009) % p/a fuel efficiency Carbon-neutral growth % CO2 ICAO 37th General assembly (2010) % p/a fuel efficiency 2020 Carbon-neutral growth ICAO 38th General assembly (2013) Design of a global MBM by 2016 and implementation in 2020 Develop global CO 2 certification Standard by 2016 AIRBUS all rights reserved.
