3 Proven Technology with Filtration and UV Treatment The RayClean TM ballast water treatment system is type approved by IMO and DNV-GL and can treat ballast water at any flowrate from ,209 gpm. The system is based purely on mechanical treatment and therefore it does not involve any use of chemicals or active substances. First treatment step is filtration, second step is UV treatment. RayClean TM has no salinity or temperature limitations and has been proven effective in water with UV-T (UV transmission) as low as 0.33, which sets the industry benchmark! 4 UV Transmission What is UV Transmission? UV-T is a measure of the capability of UV light to penetrate water. When the UV-T is high, close to 100%, the water is very clear and the UV light can penetrate deep into the water. On the other hand, when the UV-T is low (below 50%), the water is very unclear and the UV light can only penetrate a limited distance into the water. In the figure above, two cases with different UV-T are illustrated; one case with a high UV-T of 90%, and another case with just 50% UV-T. Table 1 shows how rapidly the UV intensity decays away Port UV-T from the UV lamp. 5 Selecting the Right Ballast Water Treatment System Limitations of Ballast Water Treatment Systems It should be acknowledged that ALL BWTS have limitations. Typically, chemical systems (e.g. electro-chlorination) have limitations related to the salinity of the water to be treated, its temperature or the amount of organic material contained in the water, whereas UV-based BWTS have limitations with regard to the UV transmission of the water to be treated. In other words, all BWTS have special circumstances under which they cannot be expected to treat the water according to the IMO discharge standard. The trick for the ship owner is to select a BWTS that will work under normal operational conditions. However, this choice is currently difficult to make due to lack of information from makers of BWTS, and consequently lack of transparency. UV Transmission of Ballast Water The UV-T found in different ports around the world varies significantly. Some ports are located at river estuaries, which means that the water in the port is fresh water containing high amounts of sediments, organic particles, and dissolved organic compounds. This makes the UV-T very low. Other ports are located on islands in the middle of an ocean, and here the UV-T is typically high. See examples (table 2). 6 Simple & Fully Automatic Operation UV Irradiation The UV treatment takes place in units with a flow capacity of 1321 gpm. Each UV unit is equipped with 60 highly efficient low-pressure UV lamps. These lamps are roughly twice as energy-efficient as the widely used medium pressure UV lamps, and as they work at much lower temperature they have superior lifetime and no issues with regard to fouling. inside each unit is used to dim the UV lamps in very clear water (high UV transmission) in order to save energy and to reduce the flow through the unit in extremely unclear water (low UV transmission). This ensures a carefully dosed UV treatment at all times resulting in IMO and USCG compliance even in extremely challenging water conditions. All lamp dimming and flow control are fully automatic. Constant online monitoring of the UV intensity

7 Simple & Fully Automatic Operation Filtration RayClean TM has a self-cleaning filter in order to remove the vast majority of organisms larger than 50 micron. During de-ballasting, the filter is used to ensure that organisms, which are small or soft enough to pass the filter on uptake, will be stopped by the filter mesh at discharge, treated and rendered inactive. Furthermore, use of the filter during de-ballasting protects the UV unit from any debris or dirt from the ballast tanks, such as rust flakes or pieces of ballast tank coating. The RayClean TM filter system has a unique and patent pending way of recirculating the filter backflush stream on ballast water discharge. Operation RayClean TM is a fully automatic process based on a PLC platform, which controls the valves, pumps, UV sensor, flow meters, pressure and temperature sensors. The operation of the system is made as simple as possible. The operator only has to start and stop the ballast and de-ballast operation and the remaining part of the operation is then fully automatic. RayClean TM can be started or stopped from the colour graphic touch screen on the master control panel which can be intregrated in an exsting control system on board the vessel. RayClean TM is automatically optimizing the power consumption via dimming of the lamps and regulation of the flow in accordance with the characteristics of the water. During ballast and de-ballast operations, the control system is logging the operation data, time, and date before saving this into a log file. Automation RayClean TM consists of two types of control panels, a master control panel and a number of UV control panels, one for each UV unit. RayClean TM is controlled by the PLC located in the master control panel. The UV control panels are connected to the master control panel via a Profinet ring bus. The master control panel has a 15 colour graphic touch screen (also called HMI). This is used for local control of the system, but as an option one or more HMIs can be offered and integrated into the solution. RayClean TM can interface with the vessel s integrated ship automation system and/or power management system. This can be made either as hardwired signals via a multicore cable and/or as MODBUS TCP/IP or RTU communication.

8 System Configurations Our systems can be delivered as loose components, skid-mounted or containerized. Loose components means that the system will be assembled onboard the vessel, and this is often necessary for retrofit projects or installation of large systems. We often deliver skid-mounted systems as they are the optimum solution for newbuildings and small to medium size systems. Complete containerized systems are a third option, which is used for retrofit on container vessels or on the deck of tankers with no space available elsewhere. A fourth option is semi-skid mounted systems, which means that filter and UV unit are placed on a skid, whereas control panels are delivered separately. One UV unit is able to process 1321 gpm ballast water. When larger flow rates are needed, two or more UV units are installed in parallel.

9 EX Version The System can be Delivered in a Special EX Version for Installation in Hazardous Areas The RayClean-EX TM ATEX certification enables the system to be installed directly in Zone 1 hazardous area, Ex II 2G EX pxb [ia/ib] IIC T4 Gb. Our ATEX certified version of RayClean TM enables installation in all typical hazardous areas found on board normal commercial tankers and gas carriers. The general protection principle used is purge and pressurization, which means that all potential ignition sources are covered by enclosures that are purged and pressurized with air in order to maintain an overpressure inside the enclosures. In this way gas cannot access the enclosures and get close to potential ignition sources. The overpressure is constantly monitored and if it disappears, the RayClean-EX TM system will automatically de-energize immediately.

Low Energy Consumption With RayClean TM you will have very low operating expenses. Due to the use of highly efficient lowpressure UV lamps, the energy consumption is the lowest in class and the lifetime of these lamps is a staggering 12,000 hours. Safety Safety is a top priority and many steps have been taken to make the RayClean TM system as safe as possible. No chemicals are used for treatment or cleaning of the system, and our low-pressure UV lamps do not contain mercury in liquid form, which is the case for the more widespread medium pressure UV lamps. Flexible and Simple Installation RayClean TM is a modular system that can be installed very quickly and according to your requirements, thus reducing downtime to a minimum. RayClean TM can also be delivered as a containerized solution. Type Approved IMO, DNV GL, Lloyds Register, Class NK and USCG AMS acceptance RayClean TM is IMO, DNV and Class NK type approved and has earned the Alternate Management System (AMS) acceptance by the US Coast Guard (USCG). The AMS acceptance covers all salinities ranging from fresh water to marine water, something that only eight out of 52 issued AMS acceptances have achieved to date. RayClean TM has been proven capable of dealing with extremely dirty and unclear water a wide UV transmission range that no other UV system on the market today can match. 11 Low OPEX RayClean TM - Lowest Energy Consumption in Class The low power consumption is achieved by use of highly energy-efficient low-pressure UV lamps combined with lamp dimming in clear water (high UV-T) and flow reduction in very challenging and unclear water (low UV-T). By monitoring the UV intensity inside each unit the lamps can be dimmed when the intensity is higher than the critical level, and the flow can be reduced when the intensity is lower than the critical level. This results in a constantly applied UV dose independently of the UV-T of the water to be treated, and enables the RayClean TM system to treat water with UV-T anywhere from 33% to 100%. At the same time this is achieved with the lowest possible energy consumption. The only wear components in the RayClean TM system are the UV lamps, UV intensity sensors, and the filter inserts. The exceptional long lifetime of the RayClean TM UV lamps, 12,000 operating hours, combined with the low power consumption ensures extremely low operating costs (OPEX): Just approx EUR per ton ballast water treated twice (both on uptake and discharge), including both energy and maintenance costs. 12 Green Technology OptiClean TM Energy Saving Ballast Water Treatment DESMI s new and innovative OptiClean TM concept provides net energy savings in combination with compliant ballast water treatment. By combining DESMI s proven energy optimization system, OptiSave TM, with its type approved and energy-efficient ballast water treatment system, RayClean TM, a ship owner can obtain an annual net energy saving although he treats all ballast water being discharged from the ship. The OptiSave TM system automatically adjusts the speed of the vessels cooling system pumps to the actual cooling need, which can lead to significant annual energy savings. On the same vessel a RayClean TM -300 system capable of treating 1321 gpm ballast water, which is used for 110 ballast operations a year, each with a duration of 6 hours in average, will as a maximum consume about 14,000 kwh. This means: The OptiClean TM concept provides in this case a net energy saving of 36,000 kwh annually, while at the same time treating all discharged ballast water in compliance with the IMO ballast water management convention Example: A container feeder vessel operating in Northern Europe with 5,000 seagoing hours and 3,760 harbour hours a year, and with cooling pump flow around 881 gpm can save approx. 50,000 kwh a year by installing the OptiSave TM system.

14 Case Story RayClean TM on Board 7 Maersk Container Ships DESMI pumps and ballast water treatment systems for 3,600 teu container ships for 7 Maersk Line new builds at COSCO Zhoushan DESMI has delivered a broad range of pumps and 2 x 2201 gpm RayClean TM ballast water treatment systems for each vessel. DESMI has had a great collaboration with COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard in China regarding the planning and delivery of pumps and ballast water treatment systems for seven new 3,600 teu container ships. The vessels are owned by Maersk Line and have been built to Danish Flag and Lloyds Register classification. The ships have a length of 656 feet and a breadth of 115 feet. Each vessel is configured with two RayClean TM 500 systems, one portside and one starboard. The two systems are controlled by one main control panel and fully integrated in the vessel s automation system. 15 Case Story Fast Pace Turnkey Solution for Nordana RayClean TM on Board the M/V Brattingsborg DESMI Ocean Guard demonstrated great agility and pace as a loose component project with the shipowner, Nordana, evolved into a full turnkey solution delivered and commissioned in just four months - from first inspection to final commissioning. From September 2015 to January 2016, DESMI Ocean Guard prepared and installed a RayClean TM 300 system along with a wide range of associated components under time pressure and difficult circumstances. The turnkey solution involved a thorough ship inspection in Italy, 3D scanning in Norway, engineering, manufacturing, and installation of the tailored components, class approval, delivery and installation of loose components in China, and handover in Singapore. This project quickly evolved and when the need for flexibility emerged, DESMI Ocean Guard managed to beat the usual production time.
