Presentation Brief Who funds (or could fund) their activities within this project? Who would be the stakeholders and the users of the data and information? Are there specific data policies that have to be adhered to?
Air Quality Management Legislation Timeframe 2004, National Environmental Management Air Quality Act, NEMAQA 1996, Constitution of the Republic of South Africa 1998, National Environmental Management Act, NEMA 2010, APPA fully repealed and NEMAQA came into full effect 1965 Air Pollution Prevention Act, APPA
Air Quality Information Management and Dissemination
National Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Network There are currently nearly 130 government owned stations across the country Of these an about 50 are reporting to SAAQIS LIVE
National Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Network Criteria pollutants PM10, PM2.5, SO2, NOx, CO, O3 based on reference methods H2S two stations, procuring two more analysers Black carbon measurements at 11 stations around Gauteng and Mpumalanga Met measurements at nearly all stations (temp, pressure, RH, rad etc) Most stations located in metros or SA AQ priority areas All data management (data collection, verification, reporting) centralised onto the South African Air Quality Information System (SAAQIS)
Ambient Monitoring Data Flow DYNAMIC DISPLAY& GIS ANALYSE COMMUNICATION MODULE SAAQIS DATA ASSURANCE SAAQIS DATA MANAGEMENT REPORTS EDIT DATA VALIDATE PUBLIC DISTR.(MOBILE, WEBSITE ETC ASSET MAN.
South African Air Quality Information System (SAAQIS) Promoting access to air quality information Public Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) in partnership with the SAWS have developed the SAAQIS One stop-shop for all AQ related information, legislation, documentation, AQO contacts etc. LIVE reporting at the core of the webpage, INDEX, POLLUTANTS, METEOROLOGY Interactive Learners Corner with exciting information on AQ for school children and the public SAAQIS undergoing final stages of development
