4 Available Work Positions GREETER Locations: Hamilton, Adler, Montgomery. Requirements: Student should be outgoing, confident, presentable, and speak very good English. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Greeters are to arrive 5 minutes before shift so they can meet the students before they enter. It is the greeter s job to check if student I.D. is up to date. Greeters may also be required to notify professors of students who have appointments. CAGE MONITOR Locations: Hamilton, Montgomery Requirements: Should be able to lift pounds, communicate well with others, and be able to manage time wisely. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Monitors are to check outgoing camera gear for damages and pack it, pack grip gear, keep the work area tidy, organize classrooms, check out equipment, and make equipment reservations. SHIFT LEADER Locations: Montgomery Requirements: Should be able to lift pounds, communicate well with others, be able to manage time wisely. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Shift leaders will mentor the cage monitors. This includes showing them how to use equipment checkout software, how to pack kits, and how to manage patrons. Scheduling All Hamilton employees will be scheduled roughly for a maximum of 15 hours per week, excluding the greeters. Extra hours can be obtained by covering work shifts. 4

5 Dress Code GREETER The attire for greeters is business casual, T-shirts, blue jeans, and sneakers are not acceptable. CAGE MONITOR Blue jeans, T - shirts, and Jeans are acceptable for cage monitiors. Flip flops, crocks, dresses, skirts, tanktops, and short shorts, are not acceptable. SHIFT LEADERS Blue jeans without holes are acceptable, polo shirt or dress shirt, and sneakers. No T-shirts, crocks or flip flops. Failure to adhere to the dress code Failure to comply with the dress code will result in you being sent home and written up. 5

6 Attendance The attendace guidelines are the following: Anyone arriving to work early will not be compensated for that time. You are to work the shift that you are scheduled. Be on time. If you are over 15 miinutes late for work it will count as a work occurence. Any unexcused absences will count as an occurrence. If you work at Hamilton always sign your name in the login book as soon as you arrive to work. Any misrepresentation of log-in times will result in your immediate termination. Anyone who does not obtain proper shift coverage will receive an occurence. The following is a list of acceptable excuses: Death of a loved one. Car accident Sudden health issue like heart attack, asthma, stroke, etc... Home invasion. Stolen or vandalized automobile. Doctors appointment ( must present doctors note). Assaulted on the street. Field trips. Make up class. If it s not on this list it s a good chance that you will be written up if you fail to get your shift covered. There is no such thing as emergency homework or emergency assingments. Before you submit and application you should review your syllabus and estimate how many hours you believe it is going to take to complete all of your assignments. Extra hours Work study positions are to scheduled work for roughly 15 hours. If a student would like to work extra hours they must get permission from Jelani Hardy. Those who do not have approval, but work extra hours will not be compensated. 6

7 ARRIVAL PROCEEDURE: When students arrive at Hamilton, the very first thing that they must do is sign in. Here is an example of the sign in sheet located next to the assistant s manager s desk. THOSE WORKING AT MONTGOMERY DON T NEED TO SIGN IN. THEY NEED TO NOTIFY A SHIFT LEADER AS SOON AS THEY ARRIVE TO WORK. WARNING: ANYONE WHO MISREPRESENTS THE TIME THAT THEY HAVE WORKED WILL BE IMMEDIATELY TERMINATED. 7

8 DOWN TIME How you manage your down time is extremely important. Those who will be working at Hamilton will alternate between extremely busy periods, and periods where there is very little to do. The periods with little activity you should engage in activities like reading and doing your homework. This is a list of items that are prohibited for use at Hamilton, but are acceptable at Montgomery. Laptop computers Ipads Itouch Iphone (not acceptable at Montgomery) Smart phones ( not acceptable at Montgomery) ipods / mp3 players If you are caught using one of these devices you will be written up, sent home, and you will be asked not to reapply the next quarter. Talking on the phone during a shift is also prohibited at Montgomery and Hamilton. If you need to make a call do it during your break. Greeters may use these devices however they may not talk on the phone. This includes Montgomery. Other unacceptable activities include: Riding, or standing on our carts, and dollies. Lounging with your feet up. Slap boxing. Wrestling. Playing spades, uno, bid whist, connect 4, checkers, or chess, and any other games. VISITORS Student workers are not allowed to have visits from friends. If someone needs to see you tell them to meet you on your break. BREAKS All students who work over 4 hours are entitled to take a 15 minute break. You may not take this break unless approved by a staffer. During this break you may eat, make phone calls, or go to the store. However, once your break is over you must return to work. If you leave Hamilton and it takes you 15 minutes to go to Burger King and back, but you didn t have the time to eat your food, you cannot eat it during your shift. Your 15 minutes was spent en route to Burger King and back, so plan accordingly. Those who are more than 15 minutes late returning from break will be written up. 8

9 WORK OCCURRENCES The disciplinary practices at Hamilton Hall and Montgomery are set by the Human Resources department. Any violiations will be met with the following diciplinary actions. Occurrence number 1 will result in a verbal warning in the form of an . This is the first step in notifying an employee that something is wrong. Occurrence number 2 will result in a written warning. The written warning is the final notification to the employee, the next step is termination. Please keep in mind that once you receive a verbal warning the next violation will be a written warning. For example if you are late to work and you receive an occurrence, the next violation that you incur will result in a written warning, regardless of the infraction. Another thing to keep in mind is that everyone is hired on a quarterly basis. If you receive a written warning but you are not terminated there is a very high chance that you will not be rehired. If you have no warnings but you come to work with a difficult attitude you also may not be rehired. So please take initiative and report to work with a positvie attitude. Conduct I don t mind a good conversation about politics or religion however if these conversations reach the level of a heated debate I will ask you to end it. Conversations of a sexual nature are strictly prohibited. Please do not flirt, or have any public form of affection with your coworkers, or students while you are at work. Profanity is prohibited. 9
