2 We all know that diversity makes good business sense and it s the right thing to do, but what does that look like? The NOLA SHRM Diversity Committee is pleased to present a summary of the survey that captured what you the members foster in your companies each day.

8 Specifically, how does your company embrace and/or celebrate diversity in your workplace- i.e.: events, initiatives, involvement, outreach, etc.?
9 RodericF. Teamer, Sr., Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, Inc. We conduct a series or year round programs and events at our corporate and regional offices to promote cultural diversity and awareness among our employees. In regard to our vendor/supplier initiatives, we set a goal/target for our diversity spend and implement a plan of action with our procurement team. Our last focus area in regard to health disparities in which we identify programs and initiatives to support that currently address disparity issues around the state.
10 Lori Brown, Republic National Distributing Company Each market conducts a Women s Leadership Forum, including a book discussion (books have included Emotional Intelligence 2.0, Courage, On Strategy, Through the Labyrinth, and the like), a 4- hour professional development course from Development Dimensions International (DDI) and a guest speaker. These forums provide an opportunity for our female associates to fine tune their leadership skills, while helping to develop their career goals and aspirations. We have conducted millennial roundtables to solicit their thoughts and ideas about the way our business works from day to day. The organization has also committed to a national millennial advisory council that will bring together 9 members from around the country to discuss, brainstorm and innovate. Members of the national MAC were chose from our Talent Review process and are rising stars within our organization.
11 Lauren Call Jefferson Parish Government Personnel Department (Civil Service) We have implemented a Diversity Committee that is made up of employees from various department. We have a Diversity newsletters and monthly diversity spotlight posters.
12 Rhonda R. Bouie We have diversity committee meetings, also different dates out of the year are selected to signify diverse holidays such MLK Day, Cinco De Mayo, Hispanic Month.
13 Glenn Schiro, Jefferson Parish The board publishes a monthly calendar, poster, and bullet points that are distributed to all employees. The purpose is to make all of our employees aware of holidays, celebrations, and birthdays of those who have contributed to diversity. In October we celebrate diversity week in the parish. We also ask for employees to share their cultural, social, and religious celebrations and events with us. I teach a workplace diversity class every other month open to all employees
14 Kristen Barney, ArcelorMittal LaPlace The Company invites the children of employees to submit a drawing based on a theme. Employees then vote for their favorite. Three drawings that receive the most votes are printed and used as our Corporate New Year cards by our senior management. All entries are available to employees to use to send to friends and family electronically as New Year greeting cards.
15 Unknown We display flags of employees ethnic background displayed There are meals that highlight ethnic specialty; brown bag lunches with employees We invite guest speakers in to talk about an area or place of origin culture; leadership development with emphasis on the power of embracing a diverse workforce and how to embrace differences.
16 Susan Seip, Geocent We do have an affirmative action speaker come in to meet with our hiring managers from time to time (about 1/per year). Our focus has been subtle, small tips of the hat to different diversity topics in signatures, dissemination of AAP findings. We had our first Cinco de Mayo celebration in 2015!

Through dedication, creativity, hard work and leadership of many culturally diverse individuals coming togetherto accomplish our goals. Our appreciation of the unique differences among us and how we benefit from the diverse backgrounds enhances our service to our clients and each other.

Our Local Regional Diversity Councils host quarterly events both in the community and for its employees. 1st Qtr.: We do a Black History Month signature events. 2nd Qtr.: We host Pride Events. 3rd Qtr.: We host and celebrate Hispanic Heritage. 4th Qtr.: We focus on disabilities in the workplace, health and wellness. We are a Corporate Sponsor of the Louisiana Diversity Councils. We partner with them to host a Women's Symposium.
