4 3 4 5 INTRODUCTION TO MENTAL HEALTH An intensive 6 hour course covering a short revision of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards: What is mental health? The recovery model, the issues surrounding dual diagnosis, e.g. mental health and learning disability. AUTISM AWARENESS An introduction to best practice in working with and supporting people who have autistic spectrum conditions (Autism and Asperger syndrome). DEMENTIA AWARENESS An introduction to Dementia awareness and best practice in working with people who have Dementia. By the end of this 3 hour session you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the various causes and effects of Dementia, the support needs of people with Dementia and best practice when working with people who have Dementia. Become familiar with the personal risk assessment policy and procedure. Gain practical experience of recording and reviewing risk assessments and place risk assessment in context within provider services which seek to maximise choice and control. 7 EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY A 2 hour course to raise awareness of equality and diversity in the workplace and enable participants to plan for improvements. Define diversity and other jargon words, recognise the importance of meeting diverse needs, identify ways to challenge inappropriate behaviour and create a personal action plan for improving working practices. 8 CIEH FOOD SAFETY IN CATERING LEVEL 2 The course will benefit anyone working where food is prepared, cooked and served. During the day you will discuss the importance of food safety and the systems, techniques and procedures involved. You will learn how to control food safety risks such as personal hygiene, storage, cooking and handling and why this is important. Current regulations and terminology will also be incorporated into the course. 6 7

5 9 CIEH LEVEL 2 AWARD IN FOOD ALLERGEN AWARENESS This one day NEW course has been designed to help all food handlers in the catering and retail business, who serve or sell loose food to meet the 2014 Food Information Regulations. It is a legal requirement to provide complete and correct food allergen information to customers. 10 CIEH HEALTH AND SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE LEVEL 2 This one day course has been designed to ensure that all employees are aware of their own safety and the safety of customers, contractors and the public. Employers are responsible for providing safe and healthy workplace conditions and this course will give you the right knowledge and attitude to achieve this. During the day you will discuss and understand the principles of health and safety and accident prevention: Why risk assessment is important and understanding hazards, risk and causes of harm. Why and how to follow important procedures and rules. What the responsibilities of employers and employees are. 11 DATA PROTECTION This half day workshop provides essential information on legislation, the 8 principles of data protection and how to apply them in your business. Including defining a data protection policy, the implications of storing your data electronically and how tools like a clear desk policy support good business practice. This course is also available as a 1 hour online interactive briefing. 12 CIEH EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK LEVEL 2 This course will prepare you through practical and written information so you can provide adequate and appropriate first aid at work. During the course you will learn a range of skills including: How to treat an unconscious casualty; How to treat someone that is choking; How to treat someone that is not breathing; How to treat someone that is bleeding; How to treat someone that is in shock. 13 CIEH FIRST AID AT WORK LEVEL 3 This 3 day course is mandatory for all self-employed/employed managers or community leaders who are responsible for ensuring that there is adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel in their workplace for employee health and safety. You will: Understand the roles and responsibilities of a first aider; Be able to assess an incident; Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally or struggling; Be able to recognise and assist a casualty who is choking, bleeding or in shock. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be able to act as a first aider in the workplace. 14 CIEH EARLY YEARS FIRST AID LEVEL 3 This course is aimed at those working in, or planning to work in child-care settings. The course has been developed to meet the first aid training requirements set out by The Practice Guidance in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for Ofsted-regulated child-care settings. The course will include 2 units: Unit 1: Paediatric Emergency First Aid and Unit 2: Managing Paediatric Illness and Injury. 8 9

6 WORKING WITH THE PUBLIC 15 DEALING WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE By the end of this 6 hour course attendees will have some useful coping strategies and some great techniques to enable them to manage difficult situations when working with the public and of course to avoid difficult situations arising in the first place. 16 CONFLICT RESOLUTION This course will provide you with a range of strategies for dealing effectively with conflict. You will learn how to reduce the risk of conflict and identify the responses to emotional and threatening situations. During this course you will: Understand the stages of escalation in situations and how to identify them; Practice how to diffuse situations and also how to challenge unacceptable behaviour; Look at your own personal safety and personal positioning when conflict arises; Learn the theory around behaviour and what creates tension and conflict as well as assessing your own level of stress and tension. 17 MOVING AND HANDLING FOR WORK This course aims to introduce you to the practical skills of moving heavy objects and manual handling. As a result of the course, you will become more familiar with safer practice when lifting, pulling or pushing. This will help you gain some confidence if you are asked to lift or carry large, difficult or heavy objects at work. 18 ASSERTIVENESS IN THE WORKPLACE This 10 hour course enables you to gain a fuller knowledge of passive, aggressive, assertive and manipulative behaviours and how they play out in the workplace. It will provide you with a toolkit of practical tips and techniques to manage your way confidently through scenarios which come up at work. Build your own inner confidence, celebrate your talents, learn more skills to negotiate with others and put yourself across in the best way possible. 19 CITY AND GUILDS CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS This course is a must for anyone wanting the best for their customers in the workplace in order to meet organisational objectives. The course will enable you to develop practical skills to deal with customer requests, take more initiative at work, know what customers want and need, active listening, organisational priorities and how to meet them in your job role, and much more. 20 HOW TO REALLY LISTEN! This short 3 hour workshop will enable you to practice a range of techniques to become a better active listener. You will practice some of the basic counselling techniques in order to engage more with managers, staff members and clients

7 DRIVING EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION 24 SUPPORTING SCIENCE 21 AWARD IN EDUCATION AND TRAINING LEVEL 3 This 5 day course gives an introduction to teaching and training for adults. Participants learn about the professional role and responsibilities of the teacher/ trainer and gain an introduction to the principles of teaching. The course will enable you to understand and learn how to plan your own sessions to best support learning. The assessment has hands-on practical elements and includes the production of a portfolio of assignments, during which you will develop your presentation and practical skills so that you build your confidence to teach. 22 INTERNAL VERIFIER (IV) AWARD: UNDERSTANDING THE PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE OF QUALITY ASSURANCE This 4 day course is for practicing assessors or tutors who hold the Assessor Award or equivalent. They may be ready to refine that practice to become internal verifiers for accredited learning. This course is also suitable for anyone very closely involved in the quality assurance of assessment process. Assessment is by the completion of a portfolio of work which will include professional discussions, essays and practical group work. 23 ASSESSOR AWARD: UNDERSTANDING THE PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE OF QUALITY ASSURANCE This course is designed to offer support to non-specialist science teaching staff, Teaching Assistants and Cover Supervisors. It will allow participants to increase their knowledge, understanding and skills in relation to some of the science topics covered in primary classrooms; explore some of the theoretical issues in teaching science (why we do what we do) and translate learning into teaching activities that address the needs of primary pupils. 25 SUPPORTING ENGLISH This course is designed to offer support to non-specialist English teaching staff, Teaching Assistants and Cover Supervisors. It will allow participants to increase their knowledge, understanding and skills in relation to some of the English topics covered in primary classrooms; explore some of the theoretical issues in teaching English (why we do what we do) and translate learning into teaching activities that address the needs of primary pupils. 26 SUPPORTING MATHS This course is designed to offer support to non-specialist maths teaching staff, Teaching Assistants and Cover Supervisors. It will allow participants to increase their knowledge, understanding and skills in relation to some of the maths topics covered in primary classrooms; explore some of the theoretical issues in teaching maths (why we do what we do) and translate learning into teaching activities that address the needs of primary pupils. This 4 day course is for those who are practicing assessors or tutors and are ready to refine their practice. This course will enable participants to consider the principles of assessment practice including the importance of consistency, authenticity and reliability of evidence and how to ensure assessment practice is reasonable and suitable for learners needs. Assessment is by the completion of a portfolio of work

8 TRANSFORMING BUSINESS 27 SOCIAL MEDIA FOR BUSINESS This 10 week course allows you to get to grips with implementing the use of social media in the workplace. If accounting or book keeping is something you do or want to do more efficiently then this is an excellent 5 week introduction.
