1 My Academic Planner (MAP) Introduction My Academic Plan (MAP) is an interactive planning tool that provides a way to meet your academic educational goals for a degree, certificate, skills competency award and/or transfer to a 4-year school. MAP includes sample guides or "Roadmaps" of specific courses that fulfill requirements for programs at SBCC. You can view these Roadmaps and select the courses you want to take to develop a detailed term-by-term, multi-year, academic individualized "Student Educational Plan" for one or more programs. Roadmaps A "Roadmap" is a term-by-term outline of courses needed to complete a specific program of study or major. A Roadmap offers a sample of specific courses from which to choose when setting up a plan. Roadmaps are available for the degrees, certificates, skills competency awards and transfer programs. Student Educational Plans (SEP) A "Student Educational Plan" is your academic path to graduation and/or transfer. By using the Roadmap as a guide, you can drag and drop specific courses to create your own plan to degree completion. As you progress through your college career, your unique plan will display current and future terms; it is intended to plan for the future. Plans can be built on your declared major or what if plans for majors for a specific catalog year. IMPORTANT! MAP is intended for use as a planning tool and is considered unofficial. At this time it does not reflect course substitutions or report all college requirements (i.e., units and GPA). Please refer to your Audit for this information. 1

2 Step 1 Log into your SBCC pipeline account at with your SBCC Pipeline User ID and Password. Step 2 Your SBCC Pipeline Home page displays. Select the SERVICES Tab Locate the My Academic Planner box Click the MAP icon Log in using your Pipeline username and password. 2

3 Step 3 The Degree Audit (report) and Plans Menu bar displays. You may elect to run a degree audit report. Click Request Audit to run a degree program report that tracks your academic progress. Step 4 To create a Plan, click the Plans tab and then the Create a new Plan button. Step 5 Choose a Program by selecting a degree/certificate/skills competency award from the list. 3

4 Step 6 Name Your Plan: 1. Enter a Plan Name. 2. Select a current or future Term (Spring or Fall). 3. Enter a Year. 4. Click the Add Plan button to create and store your plan. The Years to Graduation box will default to 2 years. Use the drop down menu to adjust the number of years to degree completion. Step 7 Open a Plan: To open a plan, click the Name (in this example, the plan name is UCSB Bound IGETC) or Select an Action (copy, delete, or rename an existing plan) from the drop down menu. To create additional plans repeat steps 3-6 above. 4

5 Step 8 A Roadmap (sample plan) displays on the left and your customized plan on the right. Add courses from the roadmap to your plan in three ways: 1. Drag and Drop - Find a course in the Roadmap. With your cursor, drag the desired course and drop it into a term in your plan. Adding courses using the drag and drop will automatically populate the units and title. 2. Manually add a course not found in the Roadmap - Right click a term name in your plan to select an action from the box (add course, add term, remove all courses, or delete). 3. Move Buttons This is only available for a few majors that have the audit specifically written with no course options. 4. Delete a course from your plan - Right click the desired course and select Delete. To read Course Descriptions, right click the course title in the Plan or Roadmap. 5

6 Step 9 If you have multiple plans, then select a Preferred Plan. Step Request Approval of your Preferred Plan by a Counselor by opening the Plan and clicking on the arrow in the righthand corner. You may receive counselor feedback either by pipeline or within the Comments section of the MAP program. Step Once your Plan has been approved, you will see a picture of a lock and an APPROVED Read only stamp. You will not be able to make changes to this plan. 2. If you have previously received approval of a Plan but would like to submit a different plan for approval, you must request Unapproval of the old plan first by clicking on the downward arrow in the righthand corner. 6

7 Step You can get a printer-friendly hard copy of your approved Plan by clicking on the red PDF icon. This print-out will include a list of all of your completed classes as well as your planned classes. Description of Actions See plan without the associated roadmaps and manually add courses Validate your plan This will allow you to see completion of planned requirements. View a report that includes courses from this plan When unlocked it is not approved. Request Plan Approval Add Additional Roadmaps to one plan. View a PDF of your plan which may be printed. 7
