3 Foreword from the Chairman Welcome! The Be Wiser Insurance Group has organically grown into its current success through a lot of hard work and determination. The last five years have concentrated on making the company a success and we have over 100,000 customers. In 2011 & 12, we were ranked in The Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track statistics for privately owned companies and we also appear in the Top 10 UK Brokers. A big part of this achievement is the dedication of the staff and the investment that has been devoted to learning and development. There couldn t be a better time for you to join us has seen an increased focus on developing talent and we are extending this further by introducing the Under Graduate & Graduate Development Programme being run by our Training Academy. I chose the insurance industry on leaving education and I can recommend it to anyone thinking of choosing a career in the financial services arena. 4 Foreword by the Principal Welcome to the 2013 edition of our Surestart programme brochure. Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions you will have to make, and it is one that will affect you for the rest of your life. So how then do you choose a career? We will try to help you by giving you a flavour of the Surestart programme in the pages of this prospectus and how this can benefit your career. The programme is designed not only to provide you with an insurance qualification, but an all-round work experience too. This is what makes Surestart so unique from other similar programmes. We, at Be Wiser are really proud that we could put forward such a great programme to benefit young people locally and help them to realise their career aspirations. My team will provide you with an outstanding learning experience and prepare you for success in your career. We ll work with you in planning your career from the very beginning of your course. Alongside your qualification you will have the chance to develop real-world skills and experience. Surestart has an intake of about 30 undergraduates each year. This creates an informal, close-knit, friendly and supportive environment that encourages hard work and academic achievement. We look forward to welcoming you onto our undergraduate programme soon. 5 In September 2012 Be Wiser launched the SureStart development scheme, a programme different to any other in the industry. After lots of applications and a number of assessment days a group of Graduates and Undergraduates were recruited. The objective of the programme was to give opportunities to individuals wanting to start a career in the Financial Services, and provide them with a professional qualification and 3 full years experience in a rapidly growing business. Achieving ACII status in 3 years is by no means the norm in our industry, and to achieve this requires hard work and dedication. At Be Wiser we recognise that this hard work and dedication is required by both our Graduates and us as a business, therefore we have carefully designed the programme to incorporate not only time to study but also the support and resources to do so effectively. You will get 10 hours per week dedicated to study.

6 We have a development programme on offer for individuals ready to challenge themselves within a fast growing insurance broker We firmly believe learning should be exciting as well as challenging. Employees are encouraged to take an active approach to their studies through, for example, problem-solving classes, assessment centres etc... At the academy we want you to enjoy developing the skills you will need to succeed in the competitive business world. The distinctive learning activities will support you in developing the knowledge and skills for effective learning in the rest of the course. Later in the course more emphasis is placed on acquiring specialist knowledge and the compulsory modules will provide different perspectives on insurance business issues and opportunities. Forget any preconceptions you have about us, the insurance industry and development programmes in general - this role with Be Wiser is unique and it gives you a real job, with real responsibility from day one. Alongside this, you ll receive all the training, support and opportunities you need to put you well on your way to a successful career with us.

7 The Advanced Diploma in Unit What s it about? Assessment Insurance (ACII) #letsgetqualified Being in the programme means you will be studying towards your ACII qualification. The qualification is awarded by the Chartered Insurance Institute. On Your ACII journey you will study a number of stand-alone units to achieve the 290 credits required. The CII course is challenging but also at the same time rewarding as at the end of 3 years I know I will have the qualifications to start my own insurance broker if I wished Hannah Duck, 1st Year Graduate In order to achieve ACII you will attend weekly sessions with our external CII trainer. Sessions are interactive and give you plenty of opportunity to gain an understanding of each of the topics as well as enjoy yourself! You will also have self-directed and group study time allocated in your working week. This is an opportunity to work through study tasks set, and make use of our in-house library and online study materials. The online resources and comprehensive hand-outs and workbooks make it easy to continue studying in your own time.

10 The Wiser Academy #dedicatedtoyourdevelopment The Wiser Academy will be your hub for the next three years. They will look after your development and design and support your journey. Your CII taught sessions will take place here as will your weekly group study sessions. Our dedicated Trainers will support you in your studies. The Wiser Academy is authorised by the Charted Insurance Institute to hold and invigilate their professional examinations meaning you can sit some of your exams here. The Wiser academy is also home to the Be Wiser Library, where they hold all the study material required to achieve ACII. A highly recognised insurance qualification from the Charted Insurance Institute. You should be qualified to ACII level! A highly effective In-house management and leadership development, aimed at shaping your management and supervisory skills You will have access to PCs and the internet over in the Wiser Academy making study time well-resourced and effective. At the end of three years! 11 Don t just take it from us! #meetourgradsof2012 Max Thompson Max joined the Company a few months after completing an Economics degree from the University of Sheffield. The relevance to his degree and progression prospects made the Insurance industry attractive to Max. In Our CII studies we learn about insurance as whole and also learn more about what we actually do in the company. It s a nice place to work everyone is friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is pretty relaxed For anyone who wants to get a head start in the world of work, with the prospect of getting a lot of experience with different departments and also a professional qualification, the scheme is perfect! JP Broughton JP joined us in the second intake for the programme in November After completing the Home and Motor insurance Induction JP hit the Sales floor with the Quote Wiser brand. I had been working part time for around 5 years in shops and Pubs whilst I studied. I graduated from Winchester University with a History degree. I was drawn to the Insurance industry as it s a constantly growing industry, working with analysis, data and using the skills I already had from University and college. I applied for the programme and was invited to an Assessment Centre. We turned up, introduced ourselves and we did a few team building exercises. It was interesting, inclusive and more fun than I thought it would be. I thought it would be more intense but it was nice just to be interviewed in a relaxed way. I felt more confident, relaxed and comfortable that I had done all I could do. And I got the job which was brilliant. In department it s Busy, but a nice environment, with everybody willing to lend a hand to newcomers. Nice place, nice people.

12 Don t just take it from us! #meetourgradsof2012 Devina Patel Devina finished college in summer 2012 with A levels in Spanish, Law, Media and Business. She started working for Be Wiser in the Customer Contact Team. When Devina heard about the SureStart Programme she came over to the Wiser Academy to find out more and ended up on the scheme! Insurance interested me because it s something everyone needs, and I wanted to develop my knowledge on the area. I came with an open mind I didn t really have any expectations because this was completely new to me. Devina completed a four week sales induction and started her first placement in the Insure Wiser sales centre. In department it s great, everyone gets along, and everyone works as a team. If I need help I m never afraid to ask. I like working here I find it motivating as well as challenging. In CII sessions we develop our knowledge, we go in to a lot of depth as to what insurance is and why it is the way is the way it is. On the programme we are supported heavily, through the Wiser Academy trainers and also our CII tutor. We see Our CII Trainer once a week but stay in contact with him all the time, anything we need to ask can be ed and s are always replied to. I would definitely recommend the programme, it s a great way to progress your career, to gain experience as well as earn money

13 Working your way around to business #letsgetexperienced During the three years you will be getting stuck in with the business, spending time across all areas to get a sound understanding of how it all fits together to create a successful Broker. It s a Family feeling company; everybody seems to know everybody on first name basis and are really helpful. 14 Salary and Bonus #showmethemoney Traditionally development programmes such as these offer low salaries in exchange for sponsorship through exams. At Be Wiser we want to break the mould, we want our SureStart employees to take on real responsibilities, in real roles and be paid real money! You will get paid 18,000 per annum. As well as a generous basic salary, individuals on the programme are eligible for performance related Bonus. Targets are achievable and bonus is uncapped. Who Can Apply? #getmein Summary #inanutshell The surestart development programme is full time employment with funded and supported study up to degree level (CII advanced diploma in Insurance). You will earn 18,000 per year with opportunity for uncapped bonus. 30 hours a week are spent working in one of the operational departments such as sales and customer services, 10 hours a week spent in the Wiser Academy working towards your qualifications. 15 How to apply #letsgetrecruiting Step -1 #SendusyourCV Your CV is your first introduction to us; Send this across to our along with a covering letter telling us why you should be on the programme! Step -2 #TelephoneInterveiw After looking at your CV we ll drop you a line and conduct a telephone screening. During this we ll ask you some motivational and competency-based questions. We'll also discuss your understanding of the role and the graduate programme and we will take this opportunity to brief you a little more in detail about our programme and create an opportunity to answer any questions that you may have. Step -3 #AssessmentCentre If you are successful in your telephone interview we will invite you to one of our Assessment centres. These are held at the Wiser Academy and you ll spend the day taking part in group and individual tasks as well as meeting members of the Be Wiser team and current graduates. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about Be Wiser and participate in various fun activities. They involve individual and group exercises, which will help you learn more about the demands of our roles while allowing us to assess your suitability for them. Step -4 #OnetoOneInterveiw Depending on the outcome of the assessment centre you may be asked to attend a one-to-one interview. This would be the final stage of the process and a great opportunity for both us and you to ask any remaining questions. Step -5 #RecieveAnOffer We will make a decision quickly, taking into consideration your performance throughout the process. You will receive a phone call with the details of the offer and a contract will follow in the post. Prior to the release of any pending results we may give a conditional offer. Step -6 #Stayintouch Depending on the time of the application and your individual situation it may be some time before you start after receiving an offer. Once you have completed your paperwork, and are looking forward to joining us, we will keep in touch to tell you about our news. You will be invited to a Welcome Day which will provide you with the opportunity to network with others joining the Programme, as well as meeting with the business and your team.
