1 Award Criteria Tips for nominations 1. The Public Value Award made an outstanding contribution to the creation of public value A clear understanding of the benefits to be gained by consumers/users, citizens and/or taxpayers from a more efficient use of resources Improved the quality of a service being provided, and/or maintained the quality of services provided in the case of resource reductions Established effective partnerships between administrators and front line staff. Identify the customers, clients, recipients, beneficiaries or end users (e.g. local community) involved and how they were directly impacted by the initiative/program/project Clearly describe the public value (cost and benefits) gained from a more efficient use of resources and the role the nominee played in this process 2. The Collaboration Award Awarded to an individual whose work has transcended institutional barriers : Have established effective joint working arrangements that bring together colleagues from multiple teams, departments or other s Can clearly identify and communicate the benefits of a collaborative approach Have delivered improved, coordinated and efficient services Identify the role the nominee played in the process that brought together colleagues from multiple teams, departments or other s Describe the benefits of the collaborative approach (i.e. what outcomes have been achieved?) Clearly describe the services provided and the impact on the customers, clients,

2 citizens, etc. 3. The Leadership Award demonstrated excellence in leadership 4. The Building Talent Award demonstrated excellence in identifying, harnessing and encouraging talent : Have achieved great results through strong leadership within a team or and/or across traditional boundaries Instil pride, passion and professionalism in the workplace Exemplify the core values and service. Improved performance through strategic HR initiatives (e.g. coaching or mentoring individuals) Captured knowledge and data from a wide variety of disciplines and sources, Identify who was directly impacted by the nominee s excellence in leadership Identify how the nominee has excelled in leadership (what superior skills did he/she demonstrate?) Clearly describe the key leadership attributes of the nominee leadership exemplified the core values and service Identify the outcomes of the improved workplace performance Identify the strategies used to improve performance (e.g. coaching or mentoring individuals) Benchmark how this improvement

The Young Leader Award Awarded to an individual 34 years of age or under who has demonstrated excellence in leadership This category recognises individuals 34 years of age and under who: Have achieved great results through strong leadership within a team or and/or across traditional boundaries Instil pride, passion and professionalism in the workplace Exemplify the core values and service. Demonstrate that the age of the nominee is 34 years or under (as at 1 January 2013) Identify who was directly impacted by the nominee s excellence in leadership Identify how the nominee has excelled in leadership (what superior skills did he/she demonstrate?) Clearly describe the key leadership attributes of the nominee leadership exemplified the core values and service

The Project Management Award demonstrated excellence in project management within the public sector SPECIAL CATEGORY AWARD Successfully delivered a project or program that that delivered the outcomes defined in the business case to the satisfaction of the agency project management team Improved the quality of project management within the agency or the public sector more broadly Demonstrated leadership in building capability, collaboration and effectiveness of a project team Identify the customers, clients, recipients, beneficiaries or end users (e.g. local community) involved and how they were directly impacted by the initiative/program/project Clearly describe the public value (cost and benefits) gained from a more efficient use of resources and the role the nominee played in this process project or program fitted as part of Demonstrate use of excellence in project management practice The Anthea Kerr Award Award in honour of Anthea Kerr who passed away suddenly at 38 years of age. At the time of Anthea s death, she was an Assistant Director General in the Department of Finance and Services, a role which was the culmination of an outstanding career of over 16 years in the NSW public sector. Anthea was a wonderful mentor and a great supporter of the Young Professionals Network. The award is to recognise future public sector leaders and will be awarded to a This special category recognises individuals 34 years of age and under who: Are at or above Grade 11/12 (or equivalent) Demonstrate the public sector values of Integrity, Trust, Service and Accountability Provide an outstanding contribution to the achievement of the Department s/agency s objectives Displays skills, attributes and behaviours of a high potential employee who, through development and support, will make a more significant contribution to Demonstrate that the age of the nominee is 34 years or under (as of 1 January 2013) Demonstrate that the nominee is employed at Grade 11/12 or above Identify how the nominee demonstrates the public service values of Integrity, Trust, Service and Accountability Identify how the nominee has provided an outstanding contribution to the achievement of the

5 maximum of two individuals each year. It will be awarded to people who exhibit in their work a deep commitment to public sector values and identified leadership potential attributes that Anthea exemplified throughout her working life. Nominees will require the support of their Director General in making their nomination. al objectives within the next 5 years.
