2 A food offer to nurture productivity Our services play a pivotal role in creating a better workplace experience. Our daily focus on improving the quality of life for clients and consumers can have a positive impact on areas such as an organisation s productivity, as well as engagement and absenteeism levels. Adapting our food offer to support Santander s workplace strategy is helping our client partner achieve its ambition of nurturing a culture that promotes flexible working and is focused on work-life balance. SODEXO AND SANTANDER: OUR PARTNERSHIP Sodexo provides catering and hospitality services to 14,000 Santander employees based at 11 locations across the UK. Catering and hospitality services comprise a number of restaurant outlets and coffee bars up and down the country, as well as high-end, fine dining at Santander s head office at Triton Square, London. Sodexo is always keen to understand its clients strategy to help them achieve their workplace objectives, so when Santander first discussed its plans to invest in a refurbishment programme, Sodexo engaged with them to understand the requirements and how it could develop its food offer to support the programme. Redesigning the workplace experience Aligning to brand values The look and feel of the workplace needed to be updated to reflect Santander s brand values of: Simple, Personal and Fair Workplace Design Employees needed a culture which supported work-life balance Traditional ways of accessing food services weren t flexible enough, meaning employees were unable to access core services outside normal business hours Employee Attraction Increasing industry competition meant that Santander wanted to develop its workplace to ensure it continued to attract the best talent OUR COMMITMENT TO CULINARY EXCELLENCE AND IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE At Sodexo, we understand our clients and consumers drivers and support our partners in building great places to work, which support motivation and help create communities where employees can thrive. Food has an important role to play in achieving this and Sodexo understands the impact that fresh, nutritious produce can have on enhanced productivity. The craft and culinary expertise of our teams helps us to create healthy, on-trend food offers to rival any of those on the high street. WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP TO MAXIMISE THE OPPORTUNITY Sodexo s passion for food made it the perfect partner to help Santander realise its ambition of nurturing a working culture that was more focused on work-life balance. The team showcased its commitment to culinary excellence by devising a bespoke food offer for Santander s flagship offices (to be rolled out to all sites in due course). These included: Three flagship sites: HEAD OFFICE, TRITON SQUARE, LONDON CARLTON PARK, LEICESTER SHEFFIELD

4 THE DESIGN PROCESS Sodexo recognises the diverse needs of its consumers across the UK and conducts regular research in the different market sectors in which it operates. We understand that one solution doesn t fit all and focus our efforts on delivering a service tailored to clients values and strategic focus. Santander s brand values Simple, Personal and Fair influenced the tone, design and delivery of the new restaurant. Sodexo s focus on health and wellbeing combined perfectly with Santander s commitment to the wellbeing of its employees - giving the restaurant its new identity. A period of consultation allowed Sodexo to advise Santander on how best to utilise its restaurant space to impact the six dimensions that we believe have the greatest bearing on the quality of life of our clients and consumers - dimensions such as: ease and efficiency and social interaction. Development chefs worked closely with nutritional experts to develop innovative menus which reflected the latest food trends. As you would expect, there was a sharp focus on consumer needs, with more choice, healthy options, nutritional information and seasonality. The collaborative process resulted in a solution which delivers nutritious food at great value, every day - all housed in a vibrant and flexible environment. Here are some of the highlights: A clear mission statement at restaurant entrances outlines the philosophy behind the brand identity. Each restaurant has been designed with multi-functional zones that can be individually managed to create space for meetings, events or socialising out of hours. Food options can be made-to-order from a range of service counters, with healthy, fresh eating choices available throughout the day. A Deli-To-Go offer is being rolled out, which will allow customers to pre-order and collect at any convenient point in the day. Better communication with customers through social media platforms like Twitter to promote daily specials and meal-deal offers. MEASURING OUR SUCCESS Increased footfall by 20% since launching the offer at Santander s trial site at Carlton Park, Leicester Transactions over the trial period (from 12 October to 12 December 2015) increased by 16% on the same period in 2014 Net Sales over the same period, 12 October to 12 December 2015, increased by an average of 16% on the previous year Volumes of sales were 9% higher when contrasted with the same time-frame in 2014
5 A food offer that delivers a service aligned to our quality of life proposition The programme of investment at Santander reflects how Sodexo is working with clients to align shared values and deliver workspaces fit for the future. Underpinning the strategy at Santander is a food offer which not only demonstrates our craft and food heritage, but which also focusses on six dimensions that we believe have the biggest impact on the quality of life. EASE AND EFFICIENCY: All factors that impact an individual s ability to carry out activities with ease, PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: All factors that contribute to the comfort of individuals and make them feel safe HEALTH AND WELLBEING: Promoting a healthy lifestyle through a well-balanced diet and exercise SOCIAL INTERACTION: All factors that strengthen bonds among individuals and facilitate access to culture and entertainment RECOGNITION: All factors that contribute to an individual feeling truly valued PERSONAL GROWTH: Everything that allows an individual to learn and make progress HEALTH & WELLBEING Made-to-order food options from a range of service counters, with healthy eating choices available using fresh ingredients. New menus which not only reflect the latest food trends, but also provide high nutritional content and seasonality. Menus designed in partnership with Sodexo s development chefs and nutritional experts to make sure we have the right balance of culinary expertise and nutritional input. SOCIAL INTERACTION Restaurant designed to create multi-functional spaces that can be used outside of service hours. Better space planning increasing opportunities for productive casual collisions where employees can share ideas outside of the traditional meeting room environment. EASE AND EFFICIENCY Improved ease and efficiency for consumers using the restaurants, like online pre-ordering, delivery services and Twitter promotions, is allowing consumers to access services while focusing on their core business.
