Previous focus topics included: 1. Sustainability Authorization Membership Development Although these topics are always worthy of revisiting and follow up, it would be useful for the Committee Members to come up with some new themes addressing the state of our Business Members in the current economy and transit industry spending/purchasing trends. Hence, new topics could address Business Member insights, sensitivities, and needs to help maintain, recover and grow their businesses in the following transit industry segments. 1. Services Durable goods and products Consumable products 4. Information technologies 5. Research and testing 6. Etc. Supportive Roles: 1. Assistance in obtaining Business Member testimonials for a video that will be used at the Annual APA Meeting and Expo Attachment 3 Business Member Booth manning Attachment 4 New Business: Closing comments and adjournment: he next meeting of the Business Member Outreach Committee will take place on Saturday October 1, 2011 in conjunction with the APA Annual Meeting and Expo in New Orleans.

Business Member Outreach and Liaison Committee Meeting January 12, 2010 Meeting Notes he meeting was called to order by committee chair David Mikoryak. Present at the meeting were Frank DiGiacomo, Rich Amodei, John Barberis, Pat Biedar, Buddy Coleman, Wayne Joseph, Keith Britten, Mary Ann Collier, Sharon Greene, Delon Hampton, Hugh Harrison, Dave Hillock, Reba Malone, Stephanie Pinson, Stan Rosenblum, Jim Srygley, Michele Swayzer, Jeff Wharton, Alan Wulkan, Larry Yermack, Hugh McElvaney, im Guldin, Angela Iannuzziello, Vicki Porter, Lina Ramey, Bill Correa, Kathy Waters, KellyAnne Gallagher, and Fran Hooper. he minutes from the October 2, 2010 meeting were approved. With regard to the next issue of Business in Motion the committee agreed to focus on sustainability for the next edition of Business in Motion slated for publication prior to the March 2011 Legislative Conference. hey identified issues such as: How different business members have implemented the APA Program and how companies have benefitted from sustainability efforts (ROI/bottom line). Progress reports on what companies have done the steps they have taken, what they had done in the past vs. what they are doing now, how they grow into the program. Many members are already doing it but don t realize that its part of the APA program. How to develop your own baseline and track progress What is happening with agency bid processes regarding sustainability (NY reduced the number of copies). What is the benefit of participating in the APA program beyond doing the right thing. What about participation in the APA program being a seal of approval to meet agency procurement requirements so they don t have to file certifications with 30 different agencies. How to engage company employees in the program. New Flyer can do an article. With regard to authorization they talked about focusing on the new realities and how business members need to get engaged more than ever with the base program under siege. Need to explain the crisis that jobs are going overseas. hat the US used to be the world leader in tool and die manufacturing but now most of the work is done in China and US companies have to compete with their prices. Members noted that an article is needed on what companies can do to help meet with their Members of Congress and their staff and inform them on what their company does, how it fits into the industry, how it makes money and the jobs that are there. hey noted that legislators
need to get reelected and they understand the connection between jobs and votes and they need to understand that delays in transit funding can result in jobs going overseas. With regard to membership development the members noted that more women and minorities from the private sector need to be encouraged to get involved and run for positions on the BMBG and the APA Board of Directors. Kathy Waters updated the committee members on the new APA buyers guide initiative. In New Business Fran Hooper noted that the committee s assistance in obtaining testimonials from APA business members for a video that will be used at EXPO and eventually on the APA website. Bill Correa, Stephanie Pinson, Hugh Harrison, Reba Malone and Rich Amodei agreed to help in this effort. Jim Srygley noted that the Member Services committee might be of assistance as well. he meeting was adjourned.

Attachment APA Business Member Board of Governors Committee Work Program October 2010 October 2012 (For BMBG approval May, 2011) Outreach Committee: Advance activities that promote the value of APA membership and encourage business member involvement in APA s committees Develop and deliver two issues of Business in Motion each year which focus on the issues of interest and activities of business members involved in APA Host a business member booth at EXPO where business members can come to learn more about getting involved in APA and non member exhibitors can learn about the value of membership Develop a video for the business member booth that can subsequently be used on the APA website Support the rollout of the new APA buyers guide

Business Member estimonials ~~ APA Annual Meeting/EXPO Instead of developing a new business member brochure on how to get involved in APA and the value of APA membership to business members, it was decided that a more sustainable alternative would be to develop a video to address these issues. he video will be used in the business member booth at EXPO and will subsequently be put on the APA website. he questions that will be posed to the video participants could include: Why did you join APA? How have you gotten involved in APA? What are the most important business benefits you get from your membership? What are the most important personal benefits you get from your membership? What reasons would you give to a non member about why they should join APA? How would you encourage an inactive member to get involved in APA? he APA members that will be featured in the video will focus on newer and younger APA members and will emphasize the diverse nature of APA membership. Leadership APA members will be featured. Since the filming will be done at the bus conference, they will drawn from the attendees at that conference. Editing of the video will take place during the summer and the video will be completed in time for EXPO.
