4 History Joy Global is home to several world-class brands with a history of innovation. Our products have long been recognized worldwide as the most rugged, reliable and productive in the industry. P&H brand surface products originated with Alonzo Pawling and Henry Harnischfeger in These products are built on a 130-year tradition of handling the most rigorous demands and can be found in more than 90 percent of the world s surface mines. Our surface products also pull from the history of the LeTourneau brand, which became part of the P&H product line in The Joy brand of underground products traces its history to Joseph Joy, who in 1919 revolutionized underground mining with the invention of the mechanized loading machine and went on to create dozens of other industry firsts. Joy brand crushing and conveying products for surface and underground are built on the history of the former Stamler, Continental Conveyor and Goodman-Hewitt brands. Our Montabert product line, which includes industryleading hydraulic rock drills and breakers, was established in 1921 in Lyon, France. Montabert introduced the first variable hydraulic breaker in 1987 and is the only brand with 15-speed breakers worldwide. Weaving together the rich histories of these brands and others is part of what makes Joy Global a leading provider for the mining industry.
