1 Recognition of Prior Learning The GTA recognition of prior learning (RPL) process enables you to gain units towards the Diploma of Grain Management without necessarily completing course work. This process is an acknowledgement that your industry skills and knowledge meet or exceed the standards set out in the national standards (which are also known as units of competency.) Meeting the requirements of a unit of competency is different from 'credits' provided in traditional courses. Achieving a unit means that not only do you possess the required knowledge but that you have also applied that knowledge in an industry setting to the point where you can be regarded as 'competent'. Consequently, the RPL assessor will be looking for you to provide hard evidence that you have demonstrated your competence in the workplace. This evidence can include: verbal evidence through an interview process with an assessor which could be face-to-face, by phone or video conferencing/skype provision of documents, samples of work, and reports that you have prepared and which verify your claims demonstration of skills where applicable (e.g. sampling of grain) details of work experience that is relevant to the units you are applying for support from third-parties or referees who can verify your claims - this may be verbal or in writing studies that you have completed such as formal qualifications, professional development programs or industry courses. The first step on this process is to investigate if there are any units which you believe that you could meet the requirements of. To assist you, we have prepared a summary of each unit from the diploma on the following pages. On the back page is an application for enrolment in the process. If you have further questions about the Recognition of Prior Learning processes please contact the GTA Training Manager on (02) Page 1
