1 EXCEL/WORD INTEGRATED SUMMATIVE - Vacation Time Description: This summative project enables students to use their research skills to solve a problem. It also demonstrates the use of integrated software to create a variety of documents. Students will use a variety of resources including the Internet to research information needed to plan a vacation. Word Processing and Spreadsheet software will be used to create the following documents from their research: Letter, Itinerary, Activity List, Cost Spreadsheet, Reference Page. Introduction: Vacation time has arrived! You are going on a vacation to: for 7 days. You have a maximum of $5,000 to spend. Select a vacation location (large theme parks such as Disney World, Six Flags, Cedar Point, etc. are excluded). You can choose anywhere in the world except for the above. You cannot spend more than the $5,000. This includes spending money. PART 1A - RESEARCH Directions: 1. Research the following for your vacation destination (using the internet): KEEP TRACK OF ALL SOURCES USED!!!!! Airline name, arrive and departure dates and times, flight # s, and the round-trip price. Hotels you are staying at, the cost per night and the total cost for the 6-night stay. Car Rental charge.

2 Food cost (breakfast, lunch and dinner for each day at a variety of different restaurants). Entertainment costs (minimum of one activity per day) Misc. costs (snacks, souvenirs, phone, etc.) PART 1B LETTER (Page 1 of Word Document) 2. Create the following document in MICROSOFT WORD: PAGE 1 - Vacation and Activity Letter Key a professional letter to your teacher that introduces the vacation and the main activities (minimum 7) that you have researched. This letter should indicate where you are vacationing, a highlight of all activities and the projected total cost. 1. Use 1 margins. 2. Use proper spacing and letter etiquette. 3. Add an appropriate page border. 4. Add an appropriate page background color. 5. Include a picture of your vacation destination properly formatted in your letter. PART 2 ITINERARY (Next Page of Word Document) PAGE 2 - Itinerary An itinerary will help the traveler plan the major activities of the vacation and on which day they will occur. The itinerary should be in chronological order from departure to return. It should include times of arrivals, departures, eating, and when you are participating in activities, information about hotels, your activities, locations, mode of transportation, etc. 1. Include an appropriate Title using Word Art for this page. 2. Format the itinerary appropriately. A list or table may be used and appropriate margins (1 ) should be maintained. 3. Use a Heading Style for the start of each day (for example: Day 1 July 1, 2017

3 Page 4. Font style and size should be addressed and be consistent. 5. Use text effects, font effects, and graphics to enhance the document. Here is an example of the information to be included in an itinerary (without the required formatting): Example of Itinerary o Day 1 December 1, :00 am Breakfast 10:00am Science Museum 1:00 pm Ate Lunch at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame PART 3 ACTIVITY LIST (Next Page of Word Document) Page 3 - Activity List List each major activity and provide a brief description, the location and the price of each activity. 1. Include an appropriate Title using Word Art for this page. 2. Include a minimum of one graphic on this document. 3. Format the document as follows: 1 margins, appropriate font style and size, border. Example of Activity List Paragraph formatting or table insertion may be used to complete this document. o Parasailing: Describe what parasailing is and what body of water you will be parasailing on. o Deep Sea Fishing: PART 4 SOURCES (Next Page of Word Document) 4 Sources Include a numbered list of all sources that you used to plan out your vacation travel and costs. Enter your data into the appropriate cells. All costs should be entered as dollars with two decimal spaces. 3. In the appropriate columns use a formula/function to calculate the total amount of money spent for each day. 4. In the appropriate columns use a formula/function to calculate the average amount of money spent for each day.

5 5. In the appropriate columns use a formula/function to calculate the total amount of money with taxes spent for each day. Use 7% as your Tax Rate. 6. Calculate your Grand Total spent. Remember you cannot go over $ Calculate the amount of money you have left over. 8. Add professional/attractive formatting and styling to your spreadsheet to make it visually appealing. Use borders, font and fill colors, as appropriate, to make important information stand out. 9. Create a Pie Chart comparing the Total Item Costs. Use data labels (amounts, percentages, etc.) and legends to make your pie chart easily understandable. 10. Have the largest pie slice exploded away to emphasize it. 11. Have a chart title and format it to a new color and text effect. 12. Have the background formatted to a new color and edge effect. 13. Use a gradient on the background of the chart.
