DESIGNER POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Responsible To: Council Program: Designer Manager, Strategy / Manager, Design Strategy & Design Classification Level: Salaried, Level 4 Overview of Program The Strategy & Design Program will provide strategic and design direction and review to achieve the aims and outcomes of the City of Adelaide Strategic Plan 2016-2020. Primary Purpose Responsibilities The role of Designer provides technical design advice within the City of Adelaide. It is also a role influencing and contributing to outcomes for projects across a range of scales with other stakeholders including the State and Australian Governments. The role provides professional advice and input into the research, design, development, implementation and monitoring of a range of projects and proposals that contribute to the overall success of Council s Strategic Plan 2016-2020, Smart Move Interim Action Plan 2016-2018, Adelaide Design Manual, Adelaide Park Lands Management Strategy and city transformational projects. As part of the Strategy & Design Program the Designer will; Provide creative design solutions within time, cost and quality assurance objectives. Support the delivery of the Smart Move Interim Action Plan 2016-2018, Adelaide Design Manual, Adelaide Park Lands Management Strategy and other relevant objectives. Provide a supporting role in the delivery of projects across the Strategy & Design Program. The Designer is responsible for; Preparing creative designs and material support the delivery of the Smart Move Interim Action Plan 2016-2018, Adelaide Design Manual, Adelaide Park Lands Management Strategy and other relevant objectives. Undertaking the creative presentation of information and data. Support the management and delivery of high quality, timely and effective designs, strategies, policies, plans, projects and advice. Supporting other members of the Strategy & Design Program to deliver a broad range of projects. Assisting with the day to day liaison with stakeholders and consultants. Contributing to the development, documenting and monitoring of design standards to meet quality control objectives. Communication, consultation and liaison with key stakeholders including Council, Corporation staff, consultants, the public, property owners, contractors and other authorities in relation to the task being undertaken. Membership and registration with a relevant professional design association (e.g. AILA) Ability to work in an open, creative and collaborative project based environment. Demonstrated experience post university graduation. Understanding of the design process and contemporary design principles. Experience in the delivery of design, documentation and quality assurance to meet highest industry standards and statutory regulations. Ability to demonstrate exemplary design and project management skills. An ability to think conceptually and creatively while showing initiative and self-discipline in daily tasks. Proven high level of initiative and self-discipline with ability to make decisions and prioritise a broad program of works. A commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning. A commitment to internal and external customers demonstrated through the provision of timely, reliable advice on matters within area of responsibility. Graphic, verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-up & AutoCAD software packages desirable. A demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment. An understanding of practices, procedures and outcomes required of a records management system. Organisational and time management skills. An awareness of Occupational Health Safety & Welfare issues, standards and actions in the work place.
