BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER (APPRENTICESHIPS) Job Description Department / Section: Directorate of External Relations Location: Ipswich (but post holder will be expected to travel) Grade: Grade 8, salary range 33,943 to 39,324 p.a Contract status: Permanent Hours of work: Full time/as necessary to carry out the duties of the post Pension: USS Annual Leave entitlement: 30 days plus Bank Holidays Staff Development: Corporate and Personal Development Programme opportunities. Reporting to: Head of Student Recruitment and Market Development Purpose of the Job: We are looking for a dynamic and innovative individual with experience of working in the area of Business Development, and with the ability to work across the University and with employers to drive the development of Higher and Degree Apprenticeships within the University of Suffolk. Reporting to the Head of Student Recruitment and Market Development the primary purpose of this role is to engage with employers locally and nationally to promote the Apprenticeship offer at the University of Suffolk. You will be expected to have an excellent understanding of changing Government policies relating to Apprenticeships, and be able to confidently brief employers and academic colleagues on these developments. It will be essential for you to be able to work with local and national employers to identify their Apprenticeship requirements and to encourage them to choose the University of Suffolk as a training provider. In this role, you will support the development of Higher and Degree Apprenticeships at the University of Suffolk. You will be responsible for engaging with and supporting academic teams in developing their portfolio to meet the requirements of published Apprenticeship Standards at Levels 4-7, and developing long-term links with employers to ensure a sustainable demand and intake for our courses. Duties of the Post: The main duties and responsibilities of the post holder will include: 1. Liaise with employers locally and nationally to promote the University of Suffolk as a training provider of Higher and Degree Apprenticeships and in the development of strategies to support the enrolment of Apprentices onto University programmes.
2. To provide a first point of contact for employers regarding Higher and Degree level apprenticeships, providing a smooth transition from development to final contract where appropriate. 3. Proactively identify opportunities where the University can develop and offer Higher and Degree level apprenticeships as part of its academic provision. 4. Working with a range of colleagues across the University, supporting the development of Higher and Degree level Apprenticeships within the Faculties and the systems and processes required across the University to deliver apprenticeships. 5. Have a thorough understanding of the policies underpinning the development of Higher and Degree Apprenticeships nationally and the processes required to meet Skills Funding Agency requirements for Apprenticeship delivery. 6. Liaise with training providers across the east of England to develop mutually-beneficial opportunities to support Apprenticeship development and delivery. 7. Provide support for Apprenticeship bids and tender documents for the Skills Funding Agency and employers. 8. Act as a University of Suffolk representative for local and national discussions on Apprenticeships; 9. Work with marketing colleagues to provide clear and high quality marketing materials to promote Apprenticeships at the University of Suffolk. 10. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Director of External Relations or their nominee. These duties are a guide to the work that the post holder will initially be required to undertake. They may be changed from time to time to meet changing circumstances and do not form part of the contract of employment.
Selection Criteria EDUCATION and QUALIFICATIONS Essential Desirable 1. Degree or equivalent 1. Professional qualification KNOWLEDGE and EXPERTISE SKILLS 2. Experience of working with employers in a business development or sales role 3. Experience of account management and development of business relationships 4. Knowledge and understanding of current policy developments in Higher and Degree Apprenticeships. 5. Experience of product development or project management 6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 7. The ability to work collaboratively across an organisation and with external stakeholders 8. Excellent networking skills 9. Excellent written and presentation skills 2. Knowledge and understanding of current issues in the higher education sector 3. A track record of client management, negotiation and/or securing external income 4. Experience of working with senior management within external businesses 5. Experience of writing/preparing bids/applications 6. Experience of working with employers and/or Training Providers in Apprenticeship development or delivery 7. Market research skills 8. Ability to understand complex policy documents
