2 HEAD OF RECRUITMENT AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS FULL TIME (PERMANENT) SALARY: 42,021-49,464 p.a. (incl. LWA) Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance is a forward thinking, contemporary and world-class Higher Education Institution with a vision to redefine the conservatoire for the 21st century. At the leading edge of music and dance training, it provides specialist education of the highest quality, which reflects the increasingly collaborative world of artistic practice and supports the lifelong career development of students and professional performing artists. This is a Head of Department role reporting to a member of the senior executive team, and working closely with the Marketing and Communications team, Registry and academic colleagues. The main remit of the post is to ensure the successful recruitment of students from all markets onto Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance s suite of Higher Education programmes, in order to add to an already diverse and talented student body across music and dance. The post holder will further develop mutually beneficial relationships already established in various countries as well as develop new ones for Trinity Laban. The mainstay of work will include identifying promotional opportunities across target markets, attending targeted educational events, holding presentations and seminars, and creating pathways to establish institutional partnerships and collaborative work with schools, universities and conservatoires around the world. To join our team you should be educated to degree level and have previously held a similar role either in an HEI or other educational environment. You will be experienced in international recruitment practices and forming strategic partnerships. Experience and knowledge of music and/or dance and/or working in an HE environment would be desirable and also the ability to represent the Conservatoire internally and externally. Operational management of Market Research Officer Salary: Grade 8 JOB SUMMARY This is a Head of Department role, reporting directly to a member of the senior executive team. The team includes a Student Recruitment Marketing Manager, a Graduate Intern, and works closely with the Head of Marketing and Communications. The main remit of the post is to ensure the successful recruitment of students from all markets onto Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance s suite of Higher Education programmes, in order to add to an already diverse and talented student body across music and dance. The post holder will further develop mutually beneficial relationships already established in various countries as well as develop new ones for Trinity Laban. The mainstay of work will include identifying promotional opportunities, attending targeted educational events, holding presentations and seminars, managing agents, and creating pathways to establish institutional partnerships and collaborative work with schools, universities and conservatoires around the world. The role will require a substantial amount of forward planning and strategic thought in order to maximise the potential of each overseas trip in addition to follow up work for other institutional visits by staff as needed. The postholder will principally work on international activity, and will lead the work of the team on student recruitment within the United Kingdom and EU. The post holder will need to work closely with Registry and Student Services to encourage a timely, efficient, customer-centric approach to the student application process as well with the alumni relations team, where appropriate. The position will also require frequent liaison with the Directors of Music and Dance as well as other members of the Executive team and faculty staff. Frequent updates and management reports will also be required in order to inform key internal stakeholders of recruitment progress in each market. The successful applicant must be prepared to spend substantial time throughout the year travelling to ensure successful promotional and recruitment activity on behalf of Trinity Laban. 3
4 RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES The following tasks provide a general overview of the types of activity the successful applicant will be expected to engage in. The tasks are not intended to be an exhaustive list of responsibilities as the nature of the Conservatoire requires all employees to be flexible, dynamic and to have the capacity to think creatively when presented with challenges. Strategic Relationships and Partnerships Devise a plan, in consultation with Faculty Directors, for each country to engage strategically with institutions for collaborative work, exchange and new initiatives Develop and maintain relationships with Trinity Laban s feeder institutions within each market ensuring they understand what Trinity Laban can offer students Plan trips to institutions to coincide with fair visits, auditions and other promotional work abroad Maintain relationships with educational agents in each market Where appropriate, identify, maintain and develop relationships with key bodies including embassies and government agencies Sales and Reporting Undertake sales and promotional activity in overseas markets for extended periods of time and some weekends Achieve annual targets set by the Executive during the student recruitment target exercise each year, as a minimum Develop specific management information reports Promotion and marketing Target and organise promotional opportunities in the UK and overseas with a view to recruiting students from across numerous markets. Promotional opportunities will include; o attendance at education fairs and exhibitions o presentations to Schools, Colleges, Conservatoires and Universities o information sessions for students and their parents Work with the Marketing team to promote auditions and events both in the UK and abroad, through digital and print advertising and other means Assist in organising auditions overseas Provide direct programme counselling to prospective students Source, set up and follow up events directly with students and academics Maintain consistency of promotion for both Music and Dance Work with and train Trinity Laban s educational agents Consistently communicate the Trinity Laban brand to all stakeholders within each market Work with the Marketing team to effectively position Trinity Laban s HE music and dance programmes as market leaders for the UK Work with the Marketing, Design and Web teams and gather research recruitment materials to keep Trinity Laban s promotional and recruitment tools the best within the sector 4
5 Research and Planning Work with the Market Research Officer to research markets to ensure Trinity Laban is recruiting and promoting in the best markets for Music and Dance Research and perform benchmarking exercises within the Conservatoire sector to ensure Trinity Laban has the optimum programmes for market demand Work with the Head of Marketing and Communications on the development and implementation of marketing plans and strategies for domestic and international recruitment as needed Work with colleagues to maximise the student recruitment tracking and reporting tool in the CRM and other data sources for senior management Contribute towards achieving ambitious recruitment targets for full-time programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels Financial Control expenses to meet international recruitment budget guidelines Meet financial goals in terms of revenue generation Work with colleagues in Registry to ensure timely and accurate submission of reports on student numbers and yearly student churn rate Employee relationships Maintain good relationships with other departments and members of staff Work closely with Head of Marketing and Communications, Directors of Music and Dance, Alumni Relations and Registry regarding strategies for recruitment Work closely with Registry and Student Services in order to ensure the smooth transition of UK and international students from application to enrolment and beyond Knowledge and expertise Expertise in international markets for student recruitment Strong communication and relationship building skills Knowledge of sales techniques and brand positioning Knowledge of a foreign language (one of more or the following are preferable Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Italian are preferable) The post holder must: At all times be committed to Trinity Laban s Equality, Diversity and Access Policy. 7 CONDITIONS OF SERVICE SUMMARY Contract: Hours: Location: Salary: Annual Leave: Pension Scheme: Sick Pay: Staff Development: Car Parking: Cafeteria: Classes: Events: Childcare: Health: Permanent - full-time. Normal working hours are 35 hours per week (with a daily lunch break of one hour) usually from 9.00 am 5.00 pm Monday to Friday. You will be based at the Faculty of Music (King Charles Court, Old Royal Naval College), but may also be required to work at the Faculty of Dance (Laban Building, Creekside). The salary for the post will be in accordance with the Trinity Laban Staff Salary Scale, Grade 8, Incremental Points 37-43, 42,021 49,464 p.a., inclusive of a London Weighting Allowance of 3,510 p.a. Salaries are paid on the last working day of each month direct into bank or building society accounts. 25 days, in addition to Statutory, Bank and Public Holidays. The candidate will, upon successful completion of their probationary period, be eligible to join the Universities Superannuation Scheme. Currently employees contribute at the rate of 6.5% of the pensionable salary. The Conservatoire pays the Employers contribution currently at the rate of 16% of pensionable salary. Trinity Laban operates the Statutory Sick Pay Scheme, and staff may be eligible for benefits in excess of this under Trinity Laban s own sick pay scheme. A range of Staff Development opportunities are available. A limited number of parking spaces are available at both sites, subject to availability. Our Cafeterias/Licensed Bars at both sites serve a range of hot and cold drinks snacks. Reduced rates access to Adult Classes & Pilates Classes. There are a wide range of music and dance performances each week, many of which are free to members of staff. Trinity Laban operates the Edenred childcare voucher scheme. Details are available on request from the HR Department. Reduced rates for Health services and access to the Cash 4 Health plan. Details are available from the Health department.
