Issue 4, 2014 Dear Reader, Oi and Gas (O&G) comprising crude oi, petroeum products and refineries is one of the core sectors of the India economy. It pays a significant roe in the country's economic deveopment as we as in addressing its energy concerns. The Indian O&G sector is projected to touch US $ 139,814.7 miion by 2015 from US $ 117,562.9 miion in 2012, thereby, providing vast business and investment opportunities in its entire vaue chain. The growing energy demand presents opportunities ike exporation for domestic production growth, deveopment of discovered fieds, transportation of crude oi, gas and products, refining to service the petroeum product demand and retaiing infrastructure. To meet India's growing demand for hydrocarbon, it is vita to have in pace infrastructure such as import terminas, pipeines, intermediate storage terminas, etc. from source to consumers. The Indian government has earmarked US $ 5 biion in the Hydrocarbon Vision 2025 to faciitate the growing demand of the pipeine and termina sectors. On account of increased activities in exporation, refining and transportation of O&G, safety concerns have become a critica factor. To prevent recurrence of incidences ike the fire tragedy at IOCL Jaipur, the industry is working on M.B. La Committee recommendations. Some of its key recommendations pertaining to enhancing automation eve, security and surveiance system, emergency shutdown system, remote operation etc. are being impemented. With coud computing, one can eiminate the pain of managing one's hardware and software. Businesses are running a kinds of apps in the coud, ike customer reationship management (CRM), HR, accounting, and much more. The Coud environment provides high scaabiity with the abiity to react to on-demand resource requirements in near reatime, fast and easy depoyment of new appications, increased responsiveness and ower overa cost to the business. As coud computing grows in popuarity, companies are evauating the appicabiity of coud-based soutions for manufacturing and process contro systems. SCADA (supervisory contro and data acquisition) impementation within coud environment is reativey new and drawing attention. By moving SCADA infrastructure to a coud-based environment, it can save companies money and time by eiminating the need for buiding and maintaining their own dedicated server rooms, whie reducing SCADA administration costs and overa risks. HPCL depoys Larsen & Toubro's Termina Automation Soution for argest back oi termina in Vizag Background Hindustan Petroeum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) is a Government of India enterprise with a 'navratna' status, as we as a Fortune 500 and Forbes 2000 company. Its annua turnover during FY 2012-13 was Rs. 1,90,048 crore. It operates two major refineries producing a wide variety of petroeum fues and speciaties. The capacity of these refineries in Mumbai (West Coast) is 6.5 Miion Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA) and in Vishakapatnam (East Coast) 8.3 MMTPA respectivey. The Need Since the terminas are becoming more strategic than ever before, HPCL decided to deveop the modern back oi termina on a 38- acre pot of and within a record time of 15 months using a advanced project management techniques. The primary focus was on accuracy and avaiabiity of operation whie maintaining high safety and security standards at the storage terminas. HPCL paced the order to suppy and commission the Termina Automation System for Back oi Termina at Vizag with Contro & Automation (C&A) business unit of L&T Eectrica & Automation (EAIC), an independent company of Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T). The primary task was to compete design, engineering, suppy, instaation, testing and commissioning of Termina Automation Soution in ess than eight months to hande 94,000kL products ike FO-180/380/500, Bitumen, LVFO, FO Bend, LSHS, HFHSD, LDO, JBO and Lube Oi. This project had strategic importance as it has created space for Visakha Refinery expansion for the production of EURO IV grade fue (Diese Hydro Treatment Unit Project). The Soution The project goas were safe and efficient operation of the Termina whie at the same time reducing manua intervention and reducing poution and abour cost. HPCL chose to impement C&A's proven

7 Termina Automation soution comprising automation, fied instrumentation and safety systems. Competion of the project in a short period invoved deivering C&A's proven soutions the ivision -I-TAS SIL certified software with high eve of integrity aong with metering instruments ike DCV, Therma Jacketed Mass Fow Meter suitabe for back oi appication, Fire Aarm System, Weigh Bridge system for Mass Based oading, VFD Interface, Tank Body and Header Line Vave Automation etc. The system is buit around the ivision -I-TAS, an integrated patform, that automates and contros petroeum terminas for Tank Trucks, Wagons, Tubes for Back Oi. The soution heps to operate and contro a tota of 29 TLF oading points, 4 TW oading points and 33 product tanks from receiving to storage to distribution of different fues. With its user friendy Graphica User Interface, users can generate different reports ike tank trucks, product fiing and bay ide reports for the termina operators to monitor termina's efficiency.
