Position description Digital Communications Specialist About Redkite Redkite is a leading national charity which provides essential support to children, teenagers and young adults (up to 24 years), and their families, through the difficult cancer journey. Reports to: Location: Status: Direct Reports: National Marketing and Communications Manager Sydney 12 month full-time contract with possibility of extension None Primary purpose The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for managing Redkite s website, digital communications, social media engagement and digital marketing. This role ensures a unified Redkite voice is used across all digital content and drives greater engagement with Redkite s key stakeholders. Page 1 of 5
Key competencies and experience: Qualifications and training Tertiary qualifications in marketing, writing, communications, digital marketing or a related field or over 3 years experience in driving and managing high-level digital communications to achieve strategic goals. Tertiary qualifications and/or training in writing a big advantage. Experience and knowledge Proven ability to think strategically and create engaging and compelling social media and digital communications. Exceptional online writing, editing and proofreading skills. Web management experience including web structure and content and ability to manage external suppliers. Experience managing social media platforms with proven ability to engage communities and represent organisations professionally and responsibly. Experience using SEO and SEM to improve web visits and user experiences. Proven success implementing best-practice email marketing techniques. Demonstrated success working with diverse range of internal stakeholders and ability to provide internal training, coaching and mentoring to empower team members to produce on-brand, quality communications. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with shifting and short deadlines. Video editing experience preferably in imovie or ability and passion to learn to create compelling video content. Proficient in Photoshop. Proficient with HTML and CSS Knowledge of or experience in the following will be viewed favourably Experience redeveloping websites Experience in apps and mobile-friendly web development InDesign skills Experience developing and maintaining internal social media policies and guidelines. Position key result areas: Website management Digital development input Social media management Digital marketing and communciations training, mentoring and execution Brand custodian and Marcomms team representative Oversee the ongoing development of targeted website content to ensure brand consistency, SEO performance and strong conversion rates. Project manage the Marketing and Communications Working Group as a key participant in Redkite s 2014 Digitisation project playing a critical role in Redkite s future in the digital space. Manage Redkite s social media presence across platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube and Google+. Develop and implement a social media strategy designed to grow and engage Redkite s social media communities. Work with Fundraising and Support Teams to ensure events, supporters and families who access our services are appropriately engaged with. Update and maintain Redkite s social media policies. Empower Redkite team members to develop exceptional EDMs by providing training, advice and mentoring. Undertake analysis and implement or guide improvements to develop Redkite s EDM performance Provide hands-on editing and building support where required. Improve the performance of Redkite s Google Adwords by providing guidance and mentoring. Champion the development of strategic, on brand and effective communications across Redkite. Support other communications priorities as required. Duties and responsibilities: Website management Manage website content with a particular focus on corporate/brand and latest news, developing targeted and engaging content that carries Redkite s warm, professional and sensitive voice. Work with the fundraising team to review, refresh and maintain website content related to supporting Redkite. Provide advice and support to the Redkite Services Marketing and Communications Officer on the structure of new content for families and professionals accessing support resources and information on Redkite s support services. Mentor and guide Marcomms team members on creating consistent and effective web content. Manage structural and navigation improvements. Manage website performance and issues, vendors and domain name registrations. Page 3 of 5
Oversee SEO and functionality improvements to increase website traffic, generate greater donation conversions and to help improve family access to support. This may involve managing external suppliers and consultants. Oversee the roll-out of updated website copy and visuals following the completion of a Redkite brand review to achieve a unified voice, look and feel across the website. Provide digital development input and guidance Project manage the Marketing and Communications Working Group as a key participant in Redkite s 2014 Digitisation project playing a critical role in Redkite s future in the digital space and scoping any associated projects. Provide ongoing advice and guidance on digital trends and best practice. Social media management Represent Redkite and sensitively engage with both Redkite supporters and families accessing Redkite s support services across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube and Google+. Develop and implement a social media strategy designed to engage Redkite s social media communities and oversee scheduling of social media activity. Update and maintain Redkite s social media policies and embed them across the organisation through mentoring and training. Oversee the development of exceptional digital marketing Provide advice and training on best-practice email communications techniques, empowering staff members to build effective emails. Undertake analysis and implement or guide improvements to develop Redkite s EDM performance. Undertake or oversee the review and editing of fundraising emails, providing support and advice to broader marketing team as required. Mentor the Communications and Marketing Assistant on managing Redkite s Google Adwords to ensure more families on the cancer journey and supporters visit Redkite s website. Manage video production Manage the development of videos working with the broader Marketing and Communications team from concept through to production of compelling content. Edit and create clips in-house using i-movie as required for fundraising events, donor engagement and website content. Manage external providers where required to deliver high-quality and to deadline content. Mentor and train team members on video editing and production. Work effectively and proactively across the organisation as a brand custodian and Marcomms team representative Help all Redkite team members be confident brand guardians by providing consistent advice on voice, language and visual identity. Champion the development of creative, innovative and professional communications from strategy and concept through to execution. Participate in internal and external meetings and representing Redkite at events and meetings, with the understanding that some of these may occur outside normal work hours. Ensure all content complies with the relevant charitable fundraising guidelines and other legislation linked to the sector. Page 4 of 5
