Position Description & Application Package Position: Program Assistant Position Advertisement NASCA is an innovative Aboriginal not-for-profit experiencing a period of growth. We are currently seeking a Program Assistant to join our team in our Dubbo Office. The Program Assistant will assist with the organisation and engagement of Indigenous young people through a range of recreation, support and development programs. The successful candidate will need to be enthusiastic, engaging and energetic who inspires the confidence of young people, community members and other professionals. The Program Assistant will work across all NASCA programs, including the unique opportunity to work in remote Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory. Applicants must address the selection criteria to be considered for this position. A tertiary qualification in Education, Community Development/Management, Social Sciences or similar field, is desirable. Drivers Licence and First Aid Certification is Essential. Location: Dubbo, Western NSW Salary: $35,000 - $45,000 per annum fixed contract, dependent on experience and qualifications + 9.5% superannuation + $15,899 not-for-profit salary benefits. We are 100% Aboriginal-governed operating since 1995. A team of 17 works with 1,200 school aged Aboriginal young people each year from our offices in Sydney (14 staff) and Dubbo (3 staff). Key Responsibilities & Attributes of Program Assistant Developing, implementing and leading engagement workshops in sport, creative arts, leadership and goal setting. Mentoring and tutoring young people in class and after school Preparing reports, collating data and conducting evaluations based on program performance and student achievement Working to increase school attendance, student engagement and improving attitudes to schooling; Increasing retention to Year 12 or its vocational equivalent; Building community partnerships & relationships Fostering cultural pride & individual resilience in program participants A depth of knowledge about the causes and consequences of Indigenous youth disengagement and strategies that successfully assist young people to stay at school and to gain employment. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to liaise and build relationships with a broad range of people at all levels and from diverse backgrounds. Experience in youth career planning, guidance and inspiration. Strong organisational and time-management skills, and an ability to prioritise and meet deadlines. Highly-developed administration and computer skills and competency in Microsoft Programs. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective team member to achieve goals. Experience of working in innovative programs that focus on holistic outcomes. Experience in learning and community development, in particular for young people. Current NSW driver s licence. Understanding of and commitment to the values of NASCA.
Selection Criteria Essential: 1. Relevant qualification or experience in Education, Community Development/Management, Social Sciences, Sport/Health, Indigenous Studies or similar field. 2. Knowledge and understanding of issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and experience working with young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. 3. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing innovative and effective strategies to motivate and engage young people. 5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dynamic, highly demanding environment with competing deadlines & priorities without supervision. 6. Excellent verbal & written communication and facilitation skills. 7. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and to work in partnership with Schools and diverse community groups. 8. Knowledge and experience in report writing, managing project budgets and conducting program evaluations. 9. Drivers Licence & Current First Aid Certification.
