1. Job details Job Title: Marketing and events manager Responsible to: Head of marketing and membership Team: Marketing and membership Department: Enterprise and development department 2. Job purpose To coordinate the marketing of a range of products across the organisation by developing marketing plans in consultation with colleagues to ensure that targets are met To manage the delivery of NCVO s flagship events To develop an NCVO organisational marketing strategy To manage the promotion of conferences, training and membership and two staff 3. Dimensions The postholder plays a key role in coordinating marketing efforts across the organisation and providing marketing expertise to the wider organisation. Marketing NCVO s products and services successfully is vital to generating enough income for NCVO to be sustainable and this role plays an important part in ensuring team targets are achieved. The postholder also has responsibility for NCVO s flagship conferences. The postholder provides market intelligence to NCVO s senior management team to enable them to make evidence based decisions. The postholder manages an events officer and a marketing assistant. 2

Main accountabilities of the post Coordinate the marketing of a range of products across the team Provide high quality advice and support on marketing issues to staff across NCVO Directly manage the delivery of promotion for NCVO s conferences, training and membership scheme manage the person responsible for training, membership and events promotion Work with colleagues to protect and develop NCVO s brand Work with colleagues to develop effective marketing plans and promotional techniques for NCVO s Trusted Supplier products and lead on the marketing and promotion of our key strategic partners Deliver NCVO s flagship key annual conferences including annual and trustee conferences Manage two budgets - marketing and events budgets - and ensure that income targets are met Manage the work of the events officer, marketing assistant, temporary staff, interns and /or trainees as required Develop NCVO-wide marketing strategy and deliver market intelligence to the senior management team and NCVO s board to help planning decisions Assist in the development of new products and services based on customer need Manage all work-related contacts and projects on NCVO s CRM system 6. The enterprise and development department is led by the director of enterprise and development and is of one of three departments at NCVO. It comprises of the following: marketing and membership team NCVO Charities Evaluation Services team Volunteer centre and quality standards unit Funding Central programme The department s objective is to help improve the performance, sustainability and contribution of voluntary organisations. It achieves this by generating sustainable income, maintaining and developing membership services and marketing. The department is also dedicated to providing high quality consultancy, support and advice, training, events, business development and collaborative ventures which meet customer needs and improve the effectiveness of both members and non-members. The other departments are: public policy and volunteering planning and resources. NCVO is Positive about Disabled People. 7. Autonomy and decision-making Authorised to prepare and submit management accounts to finance team Authorised to set budgets (income and expenditure) in conjunction with team leader Authorised to negotiate with third party suppliers Authorised to manage staff, freelancers and temps 8. Communications This post needs excellent communications skills with the ability to listen and helpfully respond to members, non-members, customers and potential customers. The postholder communicates with internal and external stakeholders as follows: Internal Staff across NCVO including directors and NCVO s chief executive when developing conference themes and content. 5
Staff across NCVO when providing advice and guidance on best practice in marketing. External Speakers, third party suppliers, VIPs, marketing agencies. 9. Main areas of difficulty Time pressures and deadlines. The postholder must balance a number of competing tasks with clear unmoveable deadlines. Cross-organisational role. This role requires work across the marketing and membership team and work right across NCVO, ensuring staff engage with NCVO s flagship events. 10. Essential knowledge and skills required Knowledge 1. Educated to a high standard graduate or equivalent level of analytical skills 2. Excellent knowledge of marketing and/or communications 3. Knowledge of the voluntary sector Skills 4. Excellent written and verbal communications skills 5.
