1 Introduction 1 This document provides information for operating the Xerox Production Stacker (XPS). The XPS is an interface to the Xerox Nuvera system. It will enable inline finishing by receiving sheets from the host printer and sending these sheets into a stacker or other finishing device. The information in this document is based on the most current information available at the time of editing. Xerox Production Stacker 1-1

Introduction Safety Information This document is intended to be used exclusively by qualified personnel. Warning Pictograms Notice and follow the description of the following pictograms. Warning: Hot This label is located near the top tray motor (inside the machine). It warns you of the high burning risk if you touch the motor. Warning: Hazardous moving parts. Keep fingers and other body parts away. This label is located on the front unload door. It warns you that the unload shutter doors move during the stack ejection. 1-2 Xerox Production Stacker

Introduction Warning Pictograms Location 1. Service Switch Moving Parts during Stack Unloading The XPS automatically unloads stacks of paper when the stacker reaches a full state or condition specified by the operator. Keep the area in front of the stacker clear to allow for the unload operation. Do not place hands or objects on or near the shutter doors when the stacker is in operation. Observe the closed and open positions as shown below to insure enough space is provided. An attention light is provided on the top rear of the stacker. The light flashes as the Stacker Tray goes in and out of the Ready-to-Unload position. The light remains on steady while the Stacker Tray is in the unload position. Caution: Be careful moving around the stacker. The stack may be ejected at a low height waiting for an operator to remove the output. Xerox Production Stacker 1-3

Introduction Methods to Stop the Motion of the Stacker Eject Press the Stacker Unload button located on the Stacker Display panel to stop the ejection operation. To restart, press the button again. When the Stacker Tray is ejecting and the Front Obstruction Bumper (shown below) comes into contact with an obstruction located in front of the ejector module, the ejection operation stops immediately. To restart, follow the instructions on the Xerox Nuvera Control Console. Retract When the Stacker Tray is retracting and the Rear Obstruction Bumper (located at the back of the Stacker Tray) comes into contact with an obstruction located in rear of the Stacker Tray, the retraction operation stops immediately. To restart, follow the instructions on the Xerox Nuvera Control Console. 1 3 1 3 4 2 2 Ready to unload Closed position Legend: 1. Attention light 2. Front Obstruction Bumper 3. Unload Operation The XPS can automatically unload a finished stack from the stacker and present it to the operator in front of the stacker. Once the finished stack is ejected, the Stacker Compiler can continue stacking while still waiting for the operator to pick up the output. This is known as Unload While Run. When Xerox Nuvera needs to be unloaded, the attention light begins to flash and the shutter doors open. Once open, the Stacker Tray moves out in front of the stacker. The Stacker Tray raises or lowers to a height that can be preset at the Xerox Nuvera Control Console. The attention light remains on continuously to signify that a stack is ready for pickup. Caution: Stay clear of the Stacker Tray when it is in motion. 3-2 Xerox Production Stacker

Machine Description Retracting the Stacker Once the stacker has been unloaded, press the Stacker Unload button to retract the stacker. Caution: Stay clear of the Stacker Tray when it is in motion. If the Stacker Tray is full, the next stack is immediately picked up and ejected, repeating the process. Note You can press the Stacker Unload button at any time to eject the stack (see Display Description). Optional settings for the Stacker Unload operation are available through the Xerox Nuvera Control Console. Refer to the Xerox Nuvera User Guide and Training Aid CD for more information on setting the following: Auto or Manual Eject Stacker Limits Auto Switch Policy Unload Unload After Unload Height Xerox Production Stacker 3-3

In Use Indicator 1 2 3 4 Ready to Unload Indicator When this indicator is flashing, the device is in a state where printed sheets can be removed from the stacker. Please Wait Indicator When this indicator is on, the stacker is moving to the ready position. The indicator flashes when the Stacker Tray is paused. Stacker Unload Button Eject Press the Stacker Unload button to eject the stack from the stacker tray. If the stacker is in use and is part of a stacker group combination, the printed pages begin stacking in another stacker. If the stacker is not in use, there is no effect on printing operations. If there is only one stacker in a stacker group, printing pauses until the stack is ejected. Printing restarts when the stacker is clear. Refer to the Xerox Nuvera User Guide and Training Aid CD for Stacker Tray limits setup. Xerox Production Stacker 4-1

Display Description Stop Motion The Stacker Unload button also operates a Pause function. Press the Stacker Unload button to stop all motion during the ejection or retraction process. The Please Wait indicator flashes while the Stacker Tray is paused. Restart Motion To restart motion, press the Stacker Unload button again. In Use Indicator When this indicator is on, the stacker is selected to receive the next printed sheet. Attention Light When the Attention light glows you can remove printed sheets. This gives a 360-degree view that the stacker is ready to unload. When the Attention light flashes, the external elevator is in motion (up/down or in/out). This gives a 360-degree view that the Stacker Tray is in motion. 4-2 Xerox Production Stacker

5 Jam Detection 5 The display represents the top tray and the paper path areas. When part of the mimic is illuminated, there is a problem in this area. When the top tray area of the display is highlighted, check the top tray area to clear the paper jam. Top tray Xerox Production Stacker 5-1

Jam Detection When the paper path area of the display is highlighted, open the top cover and front door to check the areas 1 to 4 and clear the paper jam. Paper Path Areas 1-4 When the Stacker door window area of the display is highlighted, open the Stacker door to check the area 6 and clear the paper jam. Stacker Area 6 Jam Clearance and Job Recovery In case of a jam, the operator needs to clear the paper path from any jammed or damaged sheet. Note Always perform a jam clearance by first clearing sheets in devices located to the right of the finishing line. Then progressively clear the paper path moving towards the printer. 5-2 Xerox Production Stacker

Jam Detection Location of the Baffles 1 2 3 4 6 1 2 3 4 6 Clearing Stray Sheets Warning: Do Not attempt to clear stray sheets around or behind the Stacker Tray when it is in motion! In case stray sheets drop behind the Stacker Tray use the following process to clear the area. 2. Pause the Xerox Nuvera printer at the Control Console. 3. If the Stacker Tray is out and full, unload the stack. 4. If the Stacker Tray is raised and better access is needed, press the Stacker Unload button to start lowering the Stacker Tray. 5. Press the Stacker Unload button again when it reaches the low position to stop the retraction. If the Stacker Tray is already at the low position, proceed to the next step. 6. Open the top cover of the stacker. Xerox Production Stacker 5-3

Jam Detection 7. Leave the top cover open and clear any sheets that have fallen behind or around the Stacker Tray. 8. If necessary, you can lift the shutter door for easier access. 9. Once you have cleared all stray sheets, close the top cover. The stacker resets and moves to the ready position. 10. Release the print job at the Control Console. 5-4 Xerox Production Stacker
