Job Description Post number: Job title: Service: Grade: Reporting to: LS017 Sports Activity Officer Leisure and Health One Leisure Active Lifestyles D Sports Development Officer Responsible for: Direct reports: 0 Indirect reports: 0 Purpose of Post: To assist the Active Lifestyles Team with the delivery of the Sport and Active Recreation Programme to increase participation in sport and physical activity with various user groups. Main Duties and Responsibilities: 1. To deliver safe, fun and creative active lifestyle activities for targeted participants including, but not exhausted, Under 17 s, older adults, people with disabilities and women and girls ensuring the highest standards of customer care are achieved. 2. To assist and support with co-ordinating the implementation of the Sport and Active Recreation Programme. 3. Assist with the implementation of a marketing strategy for the programme using relevant data sources. Undertake promotional activities including using the One Leisure Active Lifestyles web pages, social media, word of mouth, posters, fliers, press releases and other available media and attend events with target groups to promote the work of the One Leisure Active Lifestyles team. 4. Supporting the development of the Sport and Active Recreation Programme through effective partnership working with educational establishments, sports clubs, voluntary sector organisations, youth groups and others to gain maximum participation. 5. Support the team to develop new and innovative ways to engage more people more often in sport and active lifestyles and to engage more people using One Leisure Facilities. 6. Assist the Sports Development Officer to ensure schemes of work are monitored and evaluated in accordance with corporate performance management requirements. 7. To carry out day to day procedures including taking registers, the collection of fees, driving the active lifestyles van, and equipment checks to ensure the safe operation of activities. 8. Assist in ensuring that all administration is completed fully and accurately and in accordance with deadlines. 9. Ensure health and safety practices are observed including operating within set procedures and guidelines with particular respect to the Safeguarding Policy and appropriate Risk Assessments.
10. To contribute to other Active Lifestyles initiatives including health inequality projects, equity projects and physical activity projects. 11. To administer First Aid as appropriate (where qualifications allow). 12. Other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time. Special Conditions: The hours of work will be on a shift system and will include weekdays, weekends, and evenings and occasionally Bank Holidays. At the Sports Development Officer s discretion these shifts may change to meet the changing demands of the service. The post holder will be required to wear a uniform provided by One Leisure Active Lifestyles at all times whilst on duty. Maintain current membership of appropriate Governing Bodies of all sports related coaching activities. The post holder will be required to undergo First Aid, Safeguarding and other essential training. A requirement to complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Person Specification Essential criteria Knowledge, skills & abilities A current knowledge of / or training in safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults. An understanding of the health and safety issues affecting the provision of sporting activities including risk assessments. Desirable criteria Experience of developing and promoting new and existing activities and services to gain maximum participation. Ability to identify new business opportunities and present these to the relevant officer. An understanding of participation in sport and the barriers, particularly in relation to rural issues, and the benefits regular participation in sport or physical activity has on health related issues Excellent IT skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, Internet and Intranet) Evidence of working as part of a team. Evidence of excellent customer service skills. Ability to lead and motivate young people. Experience of working unsupervised and using own initiative. Experience A proven track record of delivering good quality coaching activities. Experience of working with a range of targeted user groups when delivering sport and physical activity. Experience of administrating sports activities (e.g. planning, marketing, monitoring activities) Experience of, and involvement in, leading and running projects Qualifications A recognised sports, leisure or related qualification to at least Level 3. A level 2 National Governing Body coaching award in at least one sport A minimum of 2 A Levels or equivalent 5 GCSE s including English and Maths to at least Grade C A variety of National Governing Body sports specific qualifications Level 1 or equivalent. Community Sports Leaders qualification or equivalent. Appointed persons first aid certificate (current). Relevant recognised CPD (e.g. Coaching Disabled Performers/Multi-skills or similar)
