Loughborough University in London will open on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in September 2015. The campus will be for Post-Graduate students starting with approximately 300 and growing to 1,000. We will be based within the Here East demise, initially in the former Media Centre (approx., 2,500 m 2 of space) and then from 2016 within the former International Broadcast Centre (approx. 7.500 m 2 of space over 5 floors). We are seeking to appoint a Facility Manager who will report to, and work closely with, the Operations Director based on our London campus and will have close links with external service providers/stakeholders and FM experts on our main Loughborough campus. This is an exciting opportunity for someone appointed right at the start to shape the way we run our operation and the service we provide to staff, students and stakeholders in this new venture. JOB DESCRIPTION Job Grade: Management and Specialist, Grade 6 Responsible to: Operations Director, Loughborough University in London 1. Main Function The role will be pivotal for the day to day operational facilities and management service on the London Campus of Loughborough University. The role will include the management of the maintenance of plant and equipment, contract management, project management, health and safety, energy and
environmental management, along with soft services and business support services management. The post-holder will establish and maintain proactive and positive customer relationships with all building occupiers and service users (staff, students, tenants and other external stakeholders and visitors). The Facilities Manager will be required to use their initiative and all available resources to resolve problems in a fast, effective and efficient manner, ensuring integrated service delivery from all service providers (including the Landlord) to deliver the best value service possible to all our users. Integral to their work will be a continual review of ways of working and service provision, using influencing skills to drive visible improvement in standards of service. 2. Duties and Responsibilities 2a) Customer Relations 2.1 Establish effective day to day business relationships with the customers (staff, students, tenants, stakeholders, visitors) and take a proactive approach to requirements 2.2 To work closely with the building occupants reviewing performance of service provision. 2.3 Interface with relevant bodies for any special events; Open Days etc. 2b) Facilities Management Responsibilities 2.1 Assure service providor compliance and maximising value by directing regular performance review and measurenment Direct responsibility for the overall performance delivery of service providor(s) on the site. 2.2 To introduce improvement initiatives and encourage a continuous improvement philosophy across the site, driving customer satisfaction. 2.3 Where applicable, interface with the Landlord and property managers to ensure their provision of services included in the lease obligations are met. 2.4 Preparation and ownership of service standards for University facilities. 2.5 Project management, supervising and coordinating work of minor new works by contractors. 2.6 To inspect design proposals for alterations and major works and comment upon matters affecting future operations. 2.7 To manage the budget lines for individual services, controlling all costs and identifying variances arising and take action to achieve budgetary and forecast targets. 2c) Strategic Planning 2.8 To contribute to the long-term planning for the Loughborough University in London campus infrastructure. 2.9 Be aware of changes in customer s needs and align solutions with University s and FM s strategies. 2d) Legislative Responsibilities
2.10 To understand and ensure Health and Safety policies are implemented at Loughborough University in London and that these are consistent with the University s policies, procedures and standards. 2.11 Carry out regular quality and safety audits on operations and work in areas of responsibility. 2.12 Ensure the building meets health and safety requirements and that facilities comply with legislation and LU corporate policy. 2e) Other Responsibilities 2.13 To act as Duty Authorised Person for specified legislative areas. 2.14 Responding appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise and dealing with the consequences. 2.15 Be able to cover for Operations Director when required. 2.16 Attend Health and Safety and FM-related meetings on the Loughborough Campus representing the London-based operation when required. 3. Communication To work as an active member of the professional services team at Loughborough University in London and to have regular contact with colleagues on the Loughborough campus. 4. Personal Development To continually update own professional development to extend all management and technical skills, this includes membership of relevant professional bodies. Continually improve on attributes and competences related to the above. To be competent in Health, Safety and Environmental legislation with particular relevance to own areas of responsibility. 5. Authority 5.1 To be responsible for identifying customer needs in your area of responsibility and ensure needs are met approporiately through the services provided by Loughborough University in London staff and service partners. 5.2 To authorise expenditure within approved limits with or without reference to the Operations Director. 5.3 Such other authority specifically delegated.

Salary will be on Management and Specialist Grade 6, 28,695 to 37,394 per annum, at a starting salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, plus a 2,500 per annum London allowance.
