Job Description Job Title: Location: Reward Package: Post holder is line managed by: Head of Finance Granta Park, Nr Cambridge Competitive Salary (dependent on experience) plus benefits Executive Director of Finance and Operations Number of direct reports: 1 (Finance Team of 5) Post duration: Full time, permanent Background and overall purpose of the role: The Finance Team at Alzheimer s Research UK is responsible for maintaining the financial records of the charity and providing timely and accurate financial information. The team are responsible for ensuring there is a strong financial control environment, providing support and advice on all finance matters to stakeholders across the charity. Working closely with the Executive Director of Finance and Operations, the Head of Finance will play a pivotal role in defining, creating and maintaining the financial environment to ensure that the functional strategy and operational plans support the charity s vision, mission and objectives. Main tasks: Understand and maintain awareness of the organisational strategy and operational plans and make recommendations as to how the Finance Team will support delivery against these. In conjunction with the Executive Director of Finance and Operations, ensure that an appropriate, board approved, financial policy framework is in place to guide the charity s financial decision making (including the preparation of the Statutory Annual Accounts). Lead the annual operational planning across the charity to ensure an efficient, accurate and robust process is followed. Ensure the appropriateness of key assumptions are included within the functional proposals and accurate budget plans are in place and are appropriately measured. Provide advice and guidance to stakeholders throughout the planning process to develop financial awareness and accountability. Oversee the provision of accurate, timely and value adding monthly management information. Ensure the provision of robust accounting services for use by stakeholders in planning and controlling the income and expenditure of the charity, cash flow management and cost control. Lead a support function which is customer focused, reliable and efficient by ensuring team members provide a high level of service across the charity and have the best controls, systems and technologies in place. Build strong working relationships with key stakeholders to evaluate the level of service provided, with a view to enhancing and optimising performance, maximising efficiencies, and identifying and mitigating financial risks.

-2- Proactively raise awareness and understanding across the charity of the roles, responsibilities and level of service provided by the Finance Team. Create a culture which enables teams to make the best financial decisions after considering all options available. Provide strategic support backed by evidence-based analysis to the Finance and Investment Committee. Provide Company Secretary responsibilities - timely submission of all external reporting e.g. Companies House and Charity Commission. Develop, implement and ensure all financial systems are robust, compliant and support current requirements and future growth. Review, develop and implement Finance polices and procedures; with a view to ensuring compliance with legislation and regulations, risk is managed, and internal audits are conducted. Ensure the charity adheres to its statutory obligations and remains compliant with all relevant legal and tax legislations, including PAYE and VAT. Keep up to date with changes in legislation and current best practice. Ensure the charity responds accordingly by making recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team and implementing any changes agreed. Develop and implement a fully integrated procurement system into the charity. Provide strong leadership and support to the Finance Manager and Finance Team, through coaching, mentoring and developing individuals to deliver an effective and efficient service across the charity. Continuously develop professional knowledge and expertise, attending relevant meetings and conferences to ensure up to date knowledge is relevant to the role. Undertake any other relevant duties and projects assigned by the Executive Director of Finance and Operations in line with the responsibilities of the role.

Essential Desirable Education Level Qualified Accountant - ACA/ACCA/CIMA with at least 5 years post qualified experience Knowledge Knowledge and experience of preparing Statutory Annual Accounts using SORP Knowledge and understanding of internal controls, core accounting systems and processes. Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting models over a 5-year period Treasury Management Skills Analytical and logical problem-solving skills Excellent communicator with proven ability to persuade and influence others in a change management environment Able to evidence effective use of own judgement, & ability to work proactively while unsupervised Proven ability to implement and monitor highly effective and efficient financial controls Experience Experience of managing a Finance team Experience of being responsible for the Budget Process Demonstrated commitment to ensuring that the finance function works collaboratively with other areas of the business to deliver organisational goals Management of the year end process including audit Proven work experience as a Head of Finance, Director of Finance or similar role Experience of working in or with the charity sector Personal Attributes Exemplary leadership skills with both practical and short/long term strategic vision; ability to build relationships and inspire confidence and respect at all levels; strong team player.
