Whie the need for Metro Raiway was fet ong ago, it took 22 years for the first Kokata Metro to ro out for 17 km with a 14 times cost increase. However, taking essons from the Kokata Metro, the Dehi Metro Rai Corporation (DMRC) competed the 65.1 km, Phase 1 in a record time of 7 years & 3 months. The second phase of Dehi Metro was aso commissioned we before Jan 2011. Considering that Metro Raiway is a fast, efficient and cost effective mode of trave, many new projects have been taken up in Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bengauru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Jaipur, and Kochi whie proposas are being drawn up for MRTS systems in Pune, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Kanpur, Ludhiana, Bhopa, Indore and Faridabad. In the eary 2000, smart card-based soutions were adopted for ticketing appication because most of the IT systems were off-ine and what was needed was a portabe eectronic ticket that coud be authenticated off-ine, be secure and not be easiy repicated. Undoubtedy, the smart card was the soution at that time but had its own imitation of being transferabe and requiring high investment. Increase in demand for open payment soutions, need for virtuay imitess fare poicy/structure impementation and increase in the ife cyce costs of contactess smart cards are driving the transit operators to focus on other cutting edge and patron-friendy technoogies in the arena of Automatic Fare Coection (AFC) system. Near Fied Communication (NFC) is one of the emerging communication technoogies in this direction. It enjoys the distinction of being the first monorai project in independent India since the Kudaa Vaey Raiway and Patiaa State Monorai Train ways were cosed in the ate 1920s. Handing patrons efficienty whie providing comfort and safety, the Metro operators today require to overcome the chaenges faced in egacy systems in the area of revenue accounting arising out of frauduent acts by passengers and some staff in different areas of operation. The Mumbai Monorai has addressed these chaenges by impementing the Automatic Fare Coection (AFC) system suppied by L&T-C&A. Considering the impementation chaenges at Monorai project, the execution was panned in 2 phases. Whie Phase-I connects Chembur with Wadaa which incudes 7 stations and a depot, the Phase-II connects Wadaa with Gadge Maharaj Chowk which incudes the remaining 10 stations. The monorai system aong Chembur-Wadaa and Wadaa-Sant. Gadge Maharaj Chowk corridors has been designed for a ridership of 6000 and 10500 PHPDT in the year 2041 respectivey. Contactess smart cards and tokens are used as ticket instruments. The same can be bought manuay from Ticket Office or TVM. Tokens are meant to be used for singe trip/journey and return trips for occasiona users whereas Cards can be used by reguar patrons for various options ike: Eectronic/Stored Vaue Purse (e-purse) Trip Pass (with the options ike 10/30/50, etc) Tourist Pass Period Pass (i.e. Weeky, Monthy Pass, etc) Hoiday Pass The proposed system comprises the foowing key sub-systems: Automatic Gates: Controed patron passages ocated at each station in the form of arrays, which wi separate the Paid and Unpaid areas at station concourse eve. L&T-C&A bags Integrated Buiding Management order for Hyderabad Metro Contro & Automation Business Unit (C&A) has been awarded a contract for Integrated Buiding Management system for the prestigious Hyderabad Metro Rai Project. The Hyderabad Metro Rai Project is the Word's Largest Pubic- Private Partnership Project (PPP) in the Metro Sector, being executed in a Design-Buid-Finance-Operate-and-Transfer (DBFOT) basis by L &T. The Hyderabad Metro Rai Project wi incude 61 utra-modern stations with state-of-art depots and compete infrastructure to ensure seamess and comfortabe trave between existing raiway station, suburban raiways network and bus station.
