24 Stocking Fish in Public Waters Purpose: The permit will ensure that the fish to be stocked are: 1. Healthy and will not pose a disease risk to populations in the wild 2. A species that currently exists in the watershed and does not pose long-term management problems; and 3. A species compatible with the overall fishery management goals 24

26 Stocking Fish in Public Waters Step 1 Determine if the water to be stocked is public Waters that have permanent outlets or inlets Waters with public access sites Waters that have been previously stocked by the state of Michigan Step 2 Complete permit application if water body to be stocked is public Include fish health certification status from source 26
27 Stocking Fish in Public Waters Step 3 Submit the application to the appropriate Fisheries Management Unit Step 4 Once receive approved permit, you may stock fish. Contact the DNR at least 3 days prior. Have permit onsite. Submit the Public Waters Fish Stocking Report to the DNR after stocking. 27
