w w w. f e l d a. n e t. m y WHY FELDA NEED LiDAR? As a Planning Tool for the Initiative of creating FELDA as an Economic Powerhouse Solid Land bank Database of 2mil acres To manage a better replanting blueprint To solve issues regarding Land Title To Prevent Dispute between FELDA and the owner of the land. 7
w w w. f e l d a. n e t. m y Land Dispute between FELDA and the Owner After Settlers become the land owner, the dispute between FELDA and the settles regarding the planted area and tree stand has become a big issue. FELDA has to equipped more advance method in managing the plantation and administer the settlers.
w w w. f e l d a. n e t. m y LiDAR - Light Detection and Ranging WHAT IS LiDAR? Imaging technology is being used to allow the scanning and data collection on land geography 9
w w w. f e l d a. n e t. m y Aspect Cost Speed Flexibility WHY WE CHOOSE LiDAR? Description Costly for small areas Cheaper for larger areas Time to collect 1 million points Conventional surveying: 15.5 Years Photogrammetry: 1.5 Years LiDAR: kHz Accessible to all area regardless of terrain nature 2/12/
w w w. f e l d a. n e t. m y TRADITIONAL METHOD VS LiDAR METHOD Conventional LiDAR Tender Contractor do the job based on experiences Agriculture Officer observe Data acquisition & processing Blueprint Produced Tender Contractor follow blueprint 11
w w w. f e l d a. n e t. m y OUR EXPERIENCES ADOPTING LiDAR FELDA Oil Palm and Rubber Replanting Blueprint using LiDAR (5,000 Ha) Tree / Crown Counting (Stand Per Ha) Agricultural Road Network Terracing construction East Security Sabah Command Center (ESSCOM) LiDAR Mapping (124,000 Ha) Assisting National Security near FELDA Sahabat 12
w w w. f e l d a. n e t. m y OUR EXPERIENCES ADOPTING LiDAR Sturgeon farm LiDAR mapping Location in Taman Negara, Pahang (125 Ha) New Generation Housing Development LiDAR Mapping (30,000 Ha) Pahang Water Supply Project 13
w w w. f e l d a. n e t. m y OUR CHALLENGES IN PLANTATION There is no exact planning or Blue print on how our replanting need to look like. Especially in the area require terracing and agriculture road, which both works require a lot of works and time. After terracing, there is also problem in determination of replanting points. Traditional method requires more time and works. An alternative method is needed to reduce amount of works and time. 14
w w w. f e l d a. n e t. m y OUR CHALLENGES IN PLANTATION (cont) There are several important earthworks often conducted to develop a good oil palm replanting area. The works are: Terracing, Agriculture road design, Trench and drainage design, Trees to be planted. These works fill 60% of the total replanting cost. These works also require huge human resource and time. Remote Sensing and GIS provide alternative to reduce the cost and also efficient. 15
w w w. f e l d a. n e t. m y Solution In 2012, FELDA oil palm plantation for the 1 st time was mapped using LiDAR and aerial photography, to provide plantation managers with new insight to help uncover the spatial details of the plantations that are part of the major economic contributors for Malaysian's economy. The 1 st in Malaysia and the World. (SPIE Asia Pacific Journal ) 16
