LEADERSHIP Moy Park s definition of corporate responsibility is to make a positive impact on society and the environment, through our operations and products and with key stakeholders such as company colleagues, customers, communities and suppliers. The business is doing this through locally based operations and sourcing locally through an integrated supply chain, operating to high standards. Moy Park s corporate responsibility approach is aligned to business needs and priorities, with value adding activities in four main pillar areas - environment, community, workplace and marketplace which are highlighted throughout this report. In doing so, Moy Park contributes to Marfrig s transparent, public reporting requirements and reinforces the sound corporate responsibility principles at the core of the business. Moy Park supports Marfrig in its objective of demonstrating corporate responsibility through public disclosure of sustainability impacts such as through its Global Greenhouse Gas Inventory. This all happens with the involvement and engagement of our colleagues, who put in the effort and deliver competitive advantage to the business across multiple impact areas. 15 INTRODUCTION TO CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY At Moy Park we pride ourselves on being a leading, sustainable business for the long term and to maintain this we must look after our employees, build and retain the respect of our community, protect our environment and create shared value for our stakeholders, customers and suppliers. This report is our way of sharing a glimpse at Moy Park s story about our latest advances to be a more corporately responsible and leading sustainable business. The business has had a successful year, independently recognised with the achievement of the Bronze standard in the Corporate Responsibility Index, the UK s leading and most in-depth voluntary benchmark of corporate responsibility by Business in the Community, and the first ever Poultry company to receive this accolade. This is a significant milestone, achieved in our first year of entry, and we aim to go higher as we continue to invest in growth and capability in a sustainable manner. As an agri-food business we manage long term cycles in our breeding and growing programme while faced with short term market volatility. From this perspective we respect the value and importance of a long term view of sustainability. CR INDEX 2013 BRONZE Marketplace Through our supply chain we have developed powerful relationships in the farming community that should last a lifetime. These relationships are the bedrock of our business, a best in class farming base for Moy Park, and is aligned with our Mission to provide market-leading fresh locally farmed poultry. Accompanied by the finest product innovation and production in first-rate factories, Moy Park consistently delivers the best to our customers. Environment The advances in managing our environmental footprint are supported by the dedication of everyone right across the business, producing reductions in carbon and energy usage. We want to ensure all our resources are used in a more sustainable way. This is reflected in our Vision which includes being the most effective and efficient organisation of our kind in the industry. Workplace Moy Park is truly a people focused organisation. Our Values are all centred on our most important resource, our people, for us to maintain the right environment for employees to feel empowered and supported, to make a difference and to create a better business for all our stakeholders. Community As a significant business wherever we have operations, Moy Park strives to have a positive impact in its community. In this report we have plentiful examples of leadership in supporting and developing our community. The advances marked in this report can only give a small sample of our progress this past year. It is a credit to the entire Moy Park team for their continued commitment and support in achieving this tremendous recognition for the business and for delivering such a positive performance last year. With the continued drive and determination of all our colleagues at Moy Park, we will continue to be a leading and highly regarded food business in all of our markets wherever we operate. 18 RESPONSIBLE FARMING Agriculture Responsible Farming Our agricultural heritage stretches back to 1943 and defines our dedication to providing the highest standards of animal husbandry, welfare and bio-security, which ensures that our poultry is of the highest standard from day one. Moy Park is a pioneer of breeding and farming standards in the development of higher welfare chicken and the UK s largest producer of organic and free range chicken. Our agriculture focus helps ensure a strong and sustainable supply of fresh, high quality and locally farmed poultry. Customers are reassured by Moy Park s totally integrated livestock system, the only UK and European Poultry Company with three generations of livestock grandparents and parents (used for breeding) and broilers (used for meat production). Our poultry farms boast some of the highest bio-security control measures to be found throughout Europe for control of this vital part of our livestock production. Working with over 800 poultry farmers in the UK, local farming remains at the heart of our business. Through regular meaningful contact in our grower committees we plan and develop the future development of our partnership together. We have decades of experience helping all of our farmers manage their businesses, from chicken feed to fuel and energy. This way we control the quality of our chicken right from the egg to the supermarket shelf. This means better tasting, more succulent meat and the peace of mind for our consumers that our birds have been treated with absolute care. We remain committed to pioneering industry leading initiatives such as: Organic and free range birds Enriched environment Windowed housing Provision of activities e.g. perches and bales Feed mills and organic feed Tree planting hedges, fences, trees Welfare friendly de-loading Setting the standards with higher welfare farm development and investment. We believe in maintaining close relationships with our farmers and part of our success has come from our commitment to investing in new poultry housing. As a result Moy Park s farming base is best in class. Our farm expansion projects are professionally managed for company farms and we act as an advisor for contracted farmers. New buildings are planned and constructed with sustainability to the fore efficient resource consumption through environmental controls, low energy fans, PV solar panels, wind turbines, rain water harvesting, LED lights and biomass burners. We provide our farmers with the security they need to invest in sustainable farming methods for our future. 18

RESPONSIBLE FARMING Animal Welfare Turkey Moy Park considers it a moral duty to take care of animal welfare. The Group s animal welfare programme is dedicated to continuous improvement based upon the Five Freedoms, and all farmers must complete an animal welfare course on the Five Freedoms. These form the basis for the assessment of welfare within any system: 1. Freedom to express natural behaviour 2. Freedom from injury and disease 3. Freedom from discomfort 4. Freedom from thirst and hunger 5. Freedom from fear and distress Chicken Our turkeys are predominantly grown in naturally ventilated houses, fed with a wholesome wheat and soya based diet produced in our own feed mill and delivered by dedicated trucks. All aspects of husbandry are overseen by qualified company advisory staff and all our farms are registered under the Quality British Turkey and Bord Bia quality assurance schemes. Free Range Turkey Moy Park has been producing free range turkeys for over 20 years and has developed both white and bronze feathered strains which are ideally suited to free range production. The turkeys enjoy continuous daytime access to pasture and are fed our own cereal based diets, which combines to produce quality turkeys with superb flavour and succulence. We are convinced that our chicken tastes so good due to the dedicated way we rear it. Our birds are fed a natural diet of 60% cereals such as wheat and maize cereals with soya and other oil seed proteins, and no added growth promoters or antibiotics. With more windowed housing and using lower density stocking rates, our birds can behave more naturally and move about freely. Free Range Outdoor Chicken Setting the standards with higher welfare development and investment, Moy Park is the largest producer of Organic and Free Range chicken in the UK and Ireland with over 110 small farms producing Organic and Free Range chicken. Our free range chickens grow on specially selected farms where birds have full access to pastures during daytime hours. The way that birds are able to forage out on pasture and exercise more than conventional chickens means they develop a much fuller flavour. 19

FOOD STANDARDS Food Safety and Quality World Class Food Safety Health and safety of our food products is of paramount importance. Our technical and quality teams are dedicated to the task of ensuring the factories operate at the appropriate standards, monitoring and testing to ensure this is the case with an approved HACCP and safety and quality management system in place in all production units. Moy Park is a keen advocate of the principles of trust and integrity within the food supply chain. We were proud to share the platform at the launch of the new Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS), which will improve global food safety through the establishment of an international food-fortress at Queen s University in Belfast. We look forward to working alongside the Institute to research new ways of ensuring a sustainable, safe and secure supply of high quality food for the world. Prof Chris Elliott (Director, Institute for Global Food Security), Mr Philip Clarke (CEO, Tesco plc), Prof Sir Peter Gregson (Chief Executive and Vice Chancellor, Queen s University Belfast), Dr Clive Black (Head of Research, Shore Capital) Food Safety Quality Trust Integrity Food Safety & Nutrition Healthy products and healthy lifestyles. Food safety is a key priority. Moy Park is actively participating in a forum with BPC, Food Standards Agency, research institutions, the poultry industry and retailers, to undertake research and development with the goal of further improving the food safety aspects of poultry and its subsequent impact on human health. Additionally, a forward looking Food Safety Forum has been set up with independent experts providing advice to senior managers on new and emerging best practices and opportunities in the realm of food safety. This approach provides further assurance to our customers and consumers that Moy Park behaves in a responsible manner, reinforcing our values of determination, accountability and integrity. 20

FOOD STANDARDS Nutrition Labelling Traceability Recognising the growing awareness and importance consumers place on health and nutrition, Moy Park has placed a greater emphasis on reduced salt and reduced fat products within its award winning Innovation and New Product Development teams, and improved nutritional labelling. We believe it is our duty to help consumers make informed choices which best suit their lifestyle and health requirements. Consumers have less and less time to spend selecting products for their weekly shop - we know from research that nutritional information is important and therefore we must present the key nutrients in a friendly format which is easily understood at a glance. Moy Park has been a long-time supporter of nutritional labelling, being one of the early adopters of the scheme, providing nutritional information on our packs from the mid 1990s. The new labelling system, introduced by the Food Standards Agency and the Department of Health, is based on comprehensive, independent consumer research and has been adopted by Moy Park as we believe it is a clear and effective way of communicating nutritional information to consumers. All our poultry is fully traceable from pack right back to the breeder flock which the chicks came from. Our farmers are part of a number of independent assurance schemes such as Red Tractor production, Bord Bia and QBT. 24 SUSTAINABILITY Reducing Our Environmental Footprint Carbon and Energy Reductions The environment is the responsibility of everyone, not just a nominated few. Widespread support across the business ensures that we are making a difference together. By implementing significant behavioural and cultural changes across the entire business from ensuring equipment is shut down properly after use to communicating positive feedback to our employees, customers and stakeholders we have been able to foster a shared determination to support environmentally sustainable work practices. The flow of information on water, waste and energy has raised the awareness of the environment, has helped promote an energy efficiency culture and empowered our colleagues to drive improvements. The company is working proactively to adopt best practice methods to minimise its environmental footprint. Across the company we remain committed to reducing the environmental impact of our operations. All sites maintain and implement an Environmental Management System to support a professional structured approach to managing our environmental impact in the most responsible way possible. This approach is central to our long-term business strategy and our ambitions as a company to succeed in an increasingly competitive marketplace. We will continue to work towards increased sustainability throughout 2013/14 with proposed schemes ranging from an increased focus on water recovery and recycling across our primary sites, to the upgrade of refrigeration systems and a thermal heat recovery initiative. Moy Park has demonstrated a marked reduction in energy usage from 2011 to 2012 across a range of key areas, resulting in significant savings. Environmental initiatives include a reduction in utility consumption by 8% - the equivalent of enough electricity to power 3,500 homes for an entire year whilst carbon emissions have been reduced by 11,000 tonnes the equivalent of nearly 3,000 return flights from London to New York. Other successful initiatives include the installation of low energy lighting, further investment in heat recovery methods and 96% diversion of waste to landfill. The reduction in our energy usage marks a significant improvement in our sustainable performance throughout 2012 and showcases our efforts to maintain a positive reputation as a responsible business. 13% THERMAL ENERGY 8% ELECTRICAL ENERGY 13% CO2e THERMAL EMISSIONS Rhett Hayes 8% UTILITY CONSUMPTION 24 24

WASTE REDUCTION Over 96% of Waste Diverted from Landfill Water Reduction in Action in Grantham Moy Park won the prestigious Environmental Initiative of the Year Award at the Meat Trades Journal Meat & Poultry Processing Awards The environmental award is contested by leading businesses across the industry and rewards excellence and innovation in driving forward environmental improvements. The award recognises our huge reduction in waste sent to landfill from 6,600t in 2010 to 225t in 2012, which now means an incredible 96% of Moy Park s waste is diverted away from landfill. This success is driven by our extensive environmental programme, which is professionally managed by the teams at each main production site, mills, hatcheries and farms. Grantham reduced water consumption by 10% (2012 vs 2011) by effectively engaging staff on water reduction and supporting them with the resources to succeed. As a business we remain committed to reducing our environmental impact. By implementing considerable behavioural and cultural changes, which included training our teams in basic water efficiency methods and reducing the water pressure used in the factory, we have been able to reduce our water usage by 10% equivalent to 10.5 Olympic sized swimming pools! This reduction marks a significant improvement in our sustainability performance. Grantham received the Local Impact Award for its Water Reduction in Action Programme in the Business Resilience Category, which recognises companies that have considered the potential impacts of a changing climate on their business. The Responsible Business Awards are the UK s longest-running corporate responsibility awards set up to champion and raise awareness of the best examples of UK businesses making a positive difference. Grantham has held Zero to Landfill status since 2011, left to right: Neal Davis, Jon Bettinson, Andrea Carver, Bruce Vinson, Peter Keen of Biffa Waste Services, Nigel Laing Approach The approach to reducing waste is to see waste as a valuable resource, a saleable commodity, rather than as an unavoidable cost. This has reinforced the approach to: - reduce waste at source; - recycle and re-use more, recycle metals, cardboard and paper; and - promote more closed loop waste routing including spent cooking oil used to produce bio diesel to power our waste contractor s municipal fleet. 10% REDUCTION WATER USAGE in the past year at Grantham, the equivalent of 10.5 Olympic sized swimming pools 25

The Health and Safety Award was won by Grantham, recognising a consistent improvement in employee health and safety practice and a significant reduction in lost time accidents. Investing In Our People Moy Park has a long and distinguished history of investing in its people through training, indeed an early pioneer in many ways. The company was the first in the food industry sector in GB to complete and be awarded a certificate at level 3 in Poultry Meat Processing, the first in Northern Ireland to complete and have certified the first National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at level 4, and proud holders of two C&G Gold medals and National Training Awards. These achievements were completed in house by enthusiastic and dedicated candidates and assessors and is now very much an established part of our training culture. Training Courses Training raises skills spread across a wide range of areas including: Technical Training: To develop technical qualifications within the workplace. Behaviour Training: To develop competencies/attitudes. Food Safety: To ensure product safety. Industrial Safety: To develop rules and procedures about safety in the workplace. First aid. Induction training. Vocational training: To improve work based skills. Dame Kelly, Nigel Laing, Nigel Dunlop DEL Minister Dr Stephen Farry, Noel Millar, IVQ & Outreach Manager and Tina Campbell 28

DEVELOPING OUR PEOPLE Vocational Qualifications The Edge Programme Since 1997 we have encouraged and supported over 2,300 individuals to complete Vocational Qualifications (VQs) in a variety of subjects to meet the needs of both the individual and the business. The achievement of a VQ award has added significant value for these people by providing relevant and desirable qualifications when applying for jobs and promotions. Within the modern apprenticeship schemes we have used the VQ systems for assessment of individuals, and this process has enabled at least 70% of these participants to progress their careers within the business. Delighted with these results we have introduced the VQ systems throughout the group. Successful completion of a recognised award has been motivational to all employees including those that have few or no qualifications. This has encouraged and empowered individuals to seek further training which in turn has increased their flexibility, allowing them to take on more responsibility, increase morale and has given a positive feeling of accomplishment. Moy Park has always been, and still is, a leader, a driving force and a great ambassador for VQ training and assessment. Noel Millar, NVQ & Outreach Manager Learning and development within Moy Park took another leap forward in 2012, with the introduction of a pilot management development programme at Craigavon. The Edge Programme is a highly interactive, modular management development scheme that has been designed to build leaders within our business who can Empower, Deliver, Grow and Engage. The key objectives of this programme are: To build a culture of high performance within all levels of management. To give better empowerment and clarify levels of accountability. Enable better decision making and problem solving skills. Each objective is matched to a suitable training module with measurable outputs back in the workplace. The pilot programme, delivered in partnership with an external training provider, was initiated in 2012 and proved successful to roll out across the group. Edge has proved so successful that it has been awarded the Training Excellence Award at the 2013 NIFDA Awards, testament to the hard work and dedication of the team who have implemented this scheme to continuously improve our approach to supporting and developing our workforce. Senior Management Training With people at the heart of the company, we are dedicated to ensuring all employees are equipped with the necessary skills to perform to world class standards. We have a strong learning culture, investing heavily in developing our people. Our toolkit of in-house training courses across a wide range of policies and procedures are complemented by external courses. At the management tier there are advanced management programmes for executive development delivered by world class business schools INSEAD, Cranfield, and Henley. As a Member of Henley Partnership, senior managers take part in a series of conferences and seminars for their leadership development throughout the year. 29

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT Continuous Improvement While Edge addresses people development, the Continuous Improvement techniques shared across the group address improving processes with a structured approach to problem solving. The approach has introduced techniques including DMAIC (define, measure, analyse, improve and control), Tim Woods, 5 S, and Sustaining Change. We are all problem solvers and we want as many people as possible heading up improvement projects. Over 350 colleagues have been trained on how to use the DMAIC Business Improvement Toolkit. There are over 70 live projects already up and running using the DMAIC approach. Growers and Hatchery Staff Training Growers and Hatchery staff have been accredited for their training in a Work Based Diploma Level 3 in Poultry Production. The qualifications have been presented to mark their successful completion at ceremonies at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE). This is a work related competence based qualification which reflects the skills and knowledge needed to do the job effectively, and shows that a farmer is competent in poultry management to meet the industry standard requirements of bird health and welfare. The farmers group met regularly within their farming groups for poultry management seminars delivered by farm technical managers from Moy Park, Dungannon over a four month period. The technical seminars provided a knowledge building process and support for experienced farmers and those new to the business. Control Define DMAIC Improve Measure The assessments covered: record keeping and communication, site hygiene and bio security, flock management, provision of feed and water, environmental conditions, delivering vaccination treatments, collection and grading of eggs, the health and wellbeing of livestock. Analyse The Work Based Diploma Course fulfils Moy Park s requirement for training in industry audit schemes and helps the growers carry out their roles on the farms more effectively. The group from Donaghmore Hatchery were the first people to qualify in Northern Ireland, specialising in hatchery production for Work Based Diploma. 30 L-R: Jim Purvis (Internal Verifier, Greenmount College), David Hepburn, Andreia Ferreira, Ruth Charles, Sylvia Sirgado, Carlos Sirgado, Filipe Ladeira, and David Little (Assessor, Donaghmore Hatchery).

SAFETY Health and Safety Aligned with the Marfrig Health & Safety Policy, Moy Park is following the path of continuous improvement and a culture of prevention to ensure the wellbeing of each person in our operations and facilities, while creating a better and safer work environment. In fact, health and safety is one of the key values of the Group. Management commitment, safety and health leadership and employee involvement all contribute to develop an advanced and well-functioning Safety and Health programme. One way in which this is supported is the newly introduced health and safety signage, Working safely, working together, adopted by all the sites. It is another way of reinforcing the safety culture, bringing focus to safety in a fresh and novel way through visual communications to keep safety high up in everyone s consciousness. Improved Employee Engagement in Safety - The Meerkat Way CREATING A SAFER WORKPLACE We decided to take advantage of the health and safety module within the new Edge management development programme to improve Employee Engagement in safety by launching a new campaign. We adopted the Meerkat approach as our slogan and theme. The Meerkat all for one campaign was developed and delivered based on the Meerkat interdependency model and how the principles relate to workplace safety culture. The approach is being successfully rolled out across the business to further improve health and safety performance. To the uninitiated it may sound slightly bizarre, but it is a powerful analogy and communication tool, and most importantly it is proving to be effective in further embedding our safety culture. SEE IT SORT IT REPORT IT Health and safety teams use the Meerkat analogy because some of their character traits are especially applicable to health and safety principles namely the Meerkat species survives because they all look out for one another, they never ever relax in terms of safety communication, teamwork, interdependence. The initial pilot programme included each employee receiving a Meerkat business card as an introduction to the campaign. International Safety Award Moy Park has been recognised with an International Safety Award in the 2013 British Safety Council (BSC) awards scheme. The Grantham team was proactive in taking on the challenge of measuring their performance against a prestigious international benchmark and received praise for their outstanding health and safety and wellbeing performance during This is an esteemed award only issued to organisations that can demonstrate very strong Health and Safety Management, driven from the very top of the business. Candidates are required to demonstrate results in health and safety performance that are considerably better than the national average for their particular sector. This is the first time Grantham has achieved the standard of this award in recognition of the strong safety culture that we embrace, which reflects well on the wider business. The results of this approach are reflected in the Safety Index which has improved from 21 to 11 in 2012 and this strong momentum is continued into Neal Davis and Sally Evans 31

HEALTH AND WELLBEING Wellbeing Weeks Saving Lives Supporting People Each of Moy Park s main sites has two Wellbeing Weeks per year where a diverse selection of health and relaxation treatments, or treats and information is available. The aim is to encourage a healthy, engaged and motivated workforce, and for everyone to thoroughly enjoy the events. Anwick broadened its range of treatments with a chiropractor who brought a postural analysis machine which showed the body s weight bearing and the difference in shoulder and hip alignment, plus the opportunity to learn some Burlesque moves as well as Zumba. At Dungannon, Carecall delivered a stress management presentation outlining what stress is, the effects it can have on us and how to manage stress to create a healthy work life balance. It finished off with an eight minute hypnotherapy session using techniques to relax participants. This session was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the pampering and relaxation of an Indian Head Massage or Reflexology enjoyed by many employees. The Action Cancer Big Bus was well supported during its visits to three sites as it provided a valuable health screening service to colleagues. The Big Bus, or Mobile Resource Centre, to give it its proper title, provides digital breast screening, health promotion and health checks for men and women, travelling to over 200 locations across Northern Ireland each year. Not everyone gets the opportunity or makes the time to avail themselves of such services in the community, so Moy Park invited the state of the art Big Bus to visit our sites again to encourage greater interest in health and wellbeing. Over 90 people attended appointments and over 20 people were referred to their GP for further advice which we hope will be beneficial to them. Cancer Awareness Roadshow Cancer Research UK ran a roadshow at Craigavon to provide health and wellbeing advice and assessments. This walk-in service attracted interest from nearly 150 people, 35 referrals were made to smoking services and GPs for follow up support. 33 REAL ENGAGEMENT Communication Long Service Awards It is important to ensure successful communication of the range of activities offered across the business and to external stakeholders. This ensures Moy Park shares best practice, keeps people up to date and demonstrates in practical terms how we implement our values. implement our values. The quarterly company magazine has been refreshed and relaunched with a new style and more robust content. It is important to share best practice, communicate good news stories and celebrate our team and individual successes, which add to the overall culture of Moy Park. A mixture of channels are used for communication at different sites including six monthly factory briefs to review and communicate overall business performance to all factory employees, weekly team briefs to ensure everyone is updated with a consistent message on projects, starter/joining, visits, large screen TVs for enhanced communication feedback carrying weekly briefs, Joint Consultative Committee meetings for employee dialogue in a structured forum, and the Employee Consultative Forum. Moy Park aims to create and maintain a workplace environment that is recognised by our staff and the community as being a great place to work. Long and loyal employee service is testament of this and the Long Service Awards for employees with 25 or 40 years service is our way of saying thank you for the huge effort our employees put in year after year. Attitude Score Long Service Awards for England An attitude survey has asked employees across the business their views about working at Moy Park. The results have shown a remarkably positive overall Satisfaction Score of 68%, with above average scores in Health & Safety, Team Working and Working For Moy Park. Employees scored important areas based upon their first hand experience including Facilities, Feedback and Recognition, Communications and Training. The feedback has been really helpful in understanding how we are doing in different areas. 33

COMMUNITY SUPPORT Our aim is to positively engage with community stakeholders. Our community engagement reaches across a range of dimensions to support education, employment, economic development, and charitable activities. Key to our approach is employee engagement and selected partnerships, leveraging resources, to achieve the breadth and depth of initiatives. At Moy Park we truly believe our business is a people focused organisation. We invest heavily in learning and development of our colleagues to help them to do their jobs most effectively, and in return they perform exceptionally. The community initiatives described in this section are a natural extension of this approach, about how we invest in the learning and development of young people in the community, which we are very much a part of. Through our initiatives which deliver enterprise education and raise skill levels, we are promoting the food industry as a career option and enhancing employment opportunities for young people at a time when the economy presents them with such a challenge to gain employment. 36 COMMUNITY Employability and Education As a major employer we feel a responsibility to put something back into the communities where Moy Park operates. One of the challenging issues our community faces is youth unemployment, which remains persistently high. We see that challenge as an opportunity where we can do something about it. At the moment there is a major need to help people gain employment, and the food industry has a lot to offer. There is a virtuous circle between the business case and social case for supporting and developing youth education and employment in our predominantly rural economy. We can help develop people s skills, prepare them for the world of work, and in return we hope to attract and retain talent. At Moy Park we have developed a range of employability initiatives, working with strategic partners. These programmes have been recognised with Moy Park winning the Rural Action Award and a UK Big Tick for its responsible business practices at the Northern Ireland heat of Business in the Community s prestigious Responsible Business Awards This four week programme was delivered in partnership with the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise and specifically tailored to give unemployed 16 to 25-year-olds the confidence, skills and training to embark on a career within the food processing industry. Young people participating in the specifically tailored programme gained accredited qualifications in food safety, health and safety at work and first aid. The Prince s Trust Moy Park is a founding member of the Food Leadership Group with The Prince s Trust and food industry partners. This group recognised the skills shortage in the industry and the difficulties faced by disadvantaged young people gaining employment, then we came up with the Get into Food Processing programme. This programme gives disadvantaged young people the qualifications, work experience and skills necessary to move straight into a career in the food processing industry. We have had the first two rounds of work placements within a year and are looking forward to the next one. Programme participants have gained new skills, qualifications, experience and ultimately employment. We have benefited by finding keen and able young people to take up a worthwhile career in the food industry. Nicola Cousins, Robert Mason, Sarah Burns 36

EDUCATION MATTERS Moy Park Academy Moy Park has launched the Moy Park Academy, a joint initiative between Moy Park and CAFRE s Loughry campus, which will see both organisations work together to provide the best academic and practical education for students studying agri-food disciplines. Initially the Academy is providing annual student bursaries and placements and this level of support will grow as the Academy gains momentum. The company will also provide valuable input during the academic year in the form of assignments to second year students and dissertation topics to final year students. Moy Park staff will also take part in training courses and use the extensive facilities at Loughry including the technology hall, product kitchen, sensory evaluation facilities and packaging facilities. The Moy Park Academy strengthens existing links between Moy Park and CAFRE as well as facilitating an exchange of knowledge across a number of areas such as R&D, technology transfer and educational support. It will also provide guidance on the educational curriculum delivered by the College so that it is in line with both current and anticipated industry needs. Shake n Spice Chicken at Loughry Moy Park has encouraged innovative thinking with the next generation of innovators for the agri-food industry in a product development challenge. Second year food degree students from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise at Loughry Campus were tasked by the New Product Development team to develop innovative new poultry products in response to a selection of product briefs to draw inspiration from. The teams then had eight weeks to come up with an idea, review the market, develop the concept in the kitchen and scale it up in a pilot plant environment. The students were encouraged to think outside the box and develop a product that was not only innovative, but also considered key practical factors such as healthy eating, a unique selling points, convenience and environmentally friendly packaging. Moy Park offered support and expertise to help the students develop key practical skills they will need in the work place. Erne Poultry came top of the table with their innovative Shake n Spice product against a high quality field of entries. Their concept showed a good understanding of the market, with a clear and modern design plus great flavours. Emma Hall, CAFRE student, John Fay, CAFRE Director, Nigel Dunlop The Moy Park Academy has already awarded its first bursaries to six students. Two students joined for the summer for their first in a series of work experience opportunities with the business, working in New Product Development and Craigavon Technical. A further four students join for a year long placement, working in NPD, Process Development and Technical. Anna-Mae Graham (Erne Poultry team member), Derek McDowell (Head of Food Technology Education at Loughry), Briege Finnegan (Brand Marketing Manager) 37

EDUCATION Investing in Future Agriculture Talent A Lincolnshire student has been awarded Moy Park s inaugural scholarship in partnership with the British Poultry Council Scholarship scheme. Amy Sharpe is studying an agriculture degree at Harper Adams University and as part of her scholarship will gain invaluable practical experience during a challenging and rewarding one year placement with the agriculture team. Harper Adams is an excellent college that can count many of the Moy Park team as past students and we are hoping to train and develop many more multi-skilled professionals to help us lead and grow in the future. encourages them to practice and develop their problem solving skills, and the creativity and imagination they show is amazing. The Moy Park colleagues who volunteer on this programme get a lot out of it too it builds their confidence and communication skills. Young Enterprise has widespread support across the business because a lot of colleagues enjoy engaging in volunteering by delivering programmes on youth education. Young Enterprise is the ideal partner, offering the opportunity for volunteering and enterprise learning. Through the Regional Masterclasses we facilitate events designed to enable young people to think about the possibility of setting up their own business as a viable career option. We have acted as judges for the Regional Trade Fairs, business advisors for programmes and as a Business Advisor representative on the Board of West Derbyshire Young Enterprise. Volunteers have enjoyed visiting schools to deliver the Primary Programme to help pupils understand how business works in Our World and Our City. Enterprising Primary Pupils Each year we run the Moy Park Challenge, a Masterclass for primary school children. Several schools join together to work on an interactive business challenge designed to inspire their creativity and entrepreneurial skills. The Challenge has included designing a new product with packaging and an advertising logo, and use their imagination to invent a healthy eating creature, with some help from our volunteers. During the events the pupils presented their marketing campaign, took part in interactive business challenges and learned more about the food production industry. Business volunteers from Moy Park delivered presentations on healthy eating and the Chicken Voyage, tracing the production chain from farmer to consumer. This exercise mixes the children from different schools, Eileen Carville supervising pupils 38

SUPPORTING YOUTH DEVELOPMENT Tasty Careers Active Lifestyles Tasty Careers is a national outreach programme and a major initiative aimed at raising awareness of the food manufacturing sector and the careers that are available within the industry. Moy Park s Ambassadors deliver Tasty Careers programmes to schools in enterprise education and promote the food industry as a career option. Moy Park is keen to encourage healthy active lifestyles by sponsoring selected partners which encourage physical participation in sport and development to higher standards. This has included young kickboxers and the Lurgan Tigers. Moy Park has always been proactive in supporting our local communities and support like this provides a fantastic opportunity to make a difference to local children s skills development in sport and also encourage them to mix with other young people. With the support of Moy Park and our colleagues we hope these organisations continue to go from strength to strength. Lincolnshire Kick boxers head to Canada We have raised money to help four Lincolnshire Kickboxers to travel to Canada to represent England in the world kickboxing championships. Each of our business units at Grantham picked a fighter to support, and they held a number of fundraising events including raffles and sponsored events, Tombola, stalls and selling football cards. Lurgan Tigers Open Doors Ciaran O Kane with Tasty Careers students With a view to further raise awareness of the food manufacturing sector and careers, Moy Park s Craigavon site has thrown open its doors to offer a guided tour to 18 students who are studying for a BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science at South Regional College (SRC), Armagh. The Moy Park Youth Academy, which was launched in 2010, focuses on engaging with young people in the local community through sport to foster cross-community spirit and introduce local children and teenagers to rugby and cricket. Pivotal to the success of the Academy and the expansion of Lurgan Tigers was the creation of a Development Officer role, made possible by Moy Park s sponsorship. The Moy Park Youth Academy continues to flourish, now with over 250 young people as active members of the club and a number of the Tigers players have gone on to gain inter-provincial and international recognition over the past few years. Moy Park has always been proactive in supporting our local communities and this venture was a fantastic chance to engage with students from South Regional College. This style of tour is intended to be beneficial for the students in their studies and give them an insight into careers in the agri-food industry. The students visited Moy Park s microbiology laboratory to gain an insight into laboratory testing in place at the factory. The students were also shown the company s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), showcasing the latest features that support a modern laboratory s operations. 40 CHARITY PARTNERSHIPS Charity Macmillan Cancer Support A wide range of charities are enthusiastically supported by people across the business through a combination of group and individual challenges to raise money for those in need. Whenever a charity challenge is identified by a group of colleagues, Moy Park encourages them with practical support, flexibility for time off and topping up contributions to support colleagues in raising funds for charities that they value. Each sites enjoys the flexibility to choose and support charities which are suitable for their local circumstances. A selection of these include Marie Curie Cancer Care, air ambulance, hospice care, Chernobyl Children s Appeal, and SERV motorcycle blood runners. The variety keep the initiatives fresh and allows new charities to benefit from having an opportunity for a partnership with Moy Park. The charity committee has smashed its fundraising target for charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support. Moy Park doubled its target of 20,000 to raise a staggering 40,000 in the past two years to the end of While the purpose was serious, the Charity Committee was sure to put the fun into fundraising. With events ranging from a zip line, duck race, mountain climbs, shop collections, Peatlands Park fun day, a Four Peaks Challenge for the Executive Team and coffee mornings. Charity is a great way to get the different factories operating together with their time, energy, commitment and donations for a wonderful cause, and having a bit of fun while doing it. The team spent two years working together to find new and exciting ways to raise much-needed funds for Macmillan, from organising family fun days and coffee mornings to scaling some of the highest peaks across Europe and running marathons. Everyone was overwhelmed by the incredible support received from employees and friends in fundraising which will go a long way to help those at Macmillan and the fantastic work they do. The sum raised will allow a Macmillan Nurse to work with over 130 people living with cancer. 40 Joanne Young, Macmillan Cancer Support, Janice Porter

CHARITY PARTNERSHIPS Four Peaks for Macmillan Farm Africa - Toubkal Leading by example, over three consecutive days in September 2012, the Moy Park Executive team took on the Four Peaks Challenge, climbing the highest mountain in each of the four provinces of Ireland in three days. The challenge began with Ireland s highest peak Carrauntoohil, County Kerry, standing at 1,038 metres/3,406 feet. After a massive 5½ hour climb they reached the peak, which is topped by a large metal cross. On Saturday, the team tackled Mweelrea (814 metres/2,670 feet), County Mayo, the highest point in Connacht. Following another challenging climb, they reached the pinnacle of a very wet, windy and misty Mweelrea. At 6am on the Sunday morning, they began to climb Slieve Donard, scaling Northern Ireland s highest mountain (850 metres/2,789 feet). By around 10am, they were on the move again for the final time, heading for Lugnaquilla, County Wicklow. At 925 metres/3,035 feet, Lug is the highest peak in Leinster. It was there the team successfully conquered the Four Peaks Challenge! Moy Park conquered North Africa s highest mountain for charity. A team of climbers from across the global food and drinks sector, including three employees from Moy Park, successfully reached the summit of Mount Toubkal in Morocco. The group raised almost 20,000 for Farm Africa, a UK charity which is tackling hunger in Africa not through food aid, but instead through agricultural innovation and business enterprise. Trekking to the top of Morocco s imposing Mount Toubkal was no easy task. The mountain, which is the tallest in North Africa, stands at 4,167metres above sea level. Getting to the top is the equivalent of scaling Europe s tallest building The Shard in London 13 and a half times! To get to the top, the team had to sleep under canvas on the mountain side as well as put up with poor visibility, driving rain and snow. Caolan Brady, James Colley and Chris Boardman atop Mount Toubkal Farm Africa - Dig For good Janet McCollum, Group Finance Director, completed a charity challenge to dig a fish pond the size of a swimming pool in Kenya in just three days. Working shoulder to shoulder with local women farmers, and 14 senior women executives from the UK food industry, they left a lasting legacy to set this rural African community up in fish farming at one of Farm Africa s projects. The funds raised are in excess of 250,000 with tremendous support across the business and industry. Moy Park and Farm Africa are very grateful to all our very generous supporters. 41

CHARITY CHALLENGES 3 Peaks Challenge Yellow Ribbon Taking up the Waitrose McCrae 3 Peaks Challenge, the team were faced with conquering three individual climbs of over 1,000 metres and over 500 miles of driving. All of this was against the clock to complete it within 24 hours, racing up Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. The group of teams worked towards raising 20,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity and RNLI Lifeboats through the challenge. Mark Davidson, George McClean, Pearse Donnelly and Andy Ruding The Craigavon and Dungannon Charity Committee selected Yellow Ribbon as their new charity partner from the end of 2012, to support the organisation s efforts to save lives from suicidal depression in the community. Yellow Ribbon is an international agency with a branch in Craigavon, where there is a pressing need for the charity s services. The Craigavon arm of the organisation, which operates as a cross community committee, was established almost three years ago following engagement by local community representatives who had experienced suicides within their own area. Their work is carried out through a morning clinic taken by Dr Arthur Cassidy who takes GP referrals and also self referrals, a 24 hour lifeline and a Monday evening men s depression support group. Most clients are in need of treatment for stress, bereavements, anxiety, acute and chronic depression, alcoholism and relationship breakdown. The Charity Committee has raised funds for Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention through a Hallowe en event, a coffee morning, a sponsored run and a shop Christmas raffle. Mary Daly, Arthur Cassidy, Yellow Ribbon Great Wall of China Therese Connery of McLarnon Feed Mill has completed the challenge of a lifetime by participating in a Great Wall of China Trek to help raise vital funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The trekking enthusiast joined forces with 40 fellow adventurers to take on the five-day hike. In what proved to be a hugely demanding feat, the team battled the elements, scaled to dizzying heights and travelled across treacherous terrain to cover over 60 kilometres of the famous Great Wall. The Great Wall of China Trek was supported by a series of additional fundraising efforts, including a School Reunion and a Night at the Races, helping Therese to beat her fundraising target of 3,250 and bring the cumulative total raised by the team to a staggering 100,

CHARITY FUNDRAISING Fundraising for MS BTF Charity Golf Day The Grantham & Sleaford MS Group benefited from everyone supporting Christmas and Easter raffles plus the Lincoln 10k run completed by Chris Barnes who works in Stores. David Randall and Sue Ashman presented the charity cheque to the Grantham & Sleaford MS Group Chairman Mr M Cundall and Vice Chairman Ms T Bates. The group is incredibly grateful for the continued support which means they are able to take members on trips, offer them physio from their new committee member who is a qualified neuro physio and also help them with aids in their home. Tony Rance is a leading driver of the British Turkey Foundation (BTF) annual Charity Golf Day held at Belton Woods. The charity is now in its 21st year, with Tony involved for 20 of those years, and has managed to raise in excess of 500,000 and purchase over 100 chairs to help disabled children. They set a challenging target of raising 20,000 this year and managed to exceed it, allowing five more young handicapped children to receive a powered wheelchair. JCB Mud Run Ms Bates Two teams entered the JCB Mud Run in aid of the NSPCC, led by Ashbourne Mill Manager, Aubrey Dennison. Team 1 Chicken run finished 2nd out of 185 teams with Aubrey Dennison, James Gaskill, Dan Peberdy and Steve Hollinshead, followed by Chicken run 2 in 38th with Ian Dowsland, Ross Armstrong, Roshdie Ali and Jonathan Warriner. In total the event raised 40,276 for NSPCC. It makes such a difference to our members to have your support. James Gaskill Keeping Young People Safe Children s Fund The Grantham team has enthusiastically supported the Grantham Journal Children s Fund: Christmas Cracker Appeal with a charity auction, raffle, and a race night. Nigel Laing played the role of auctioneer, and warmed up the crowd with a few light hearted games. A tremendous amount of organisation goes into preparing and staging these events, and it is all so worth it when their generosity raised over 4,000, enabling more terminally ill children to go on their dream Christmas trip, making a real difference in the community. At Moy Park we are community focused and have a strong culture of learning and development. We are pleased to support the Drugs: The Truth campaign by Drugs Watch UK that aims to inform and educate young people about drug awareness. We have donated hundreds of drug awareness booklets to secondary schools to promote drug awareness to 11 to 18-year-olds. where can i go for further information? websites, phone lines, other sources if you are worried about drugs, either for yourself or someone else, you can get help in lots of different ways. here are some ideas... talk to frank Tel: FRANK is the national drugs information service. childline Children and young people can call the helpline about any problem, at any time, day or night.
