2 Help ensure that the next generation is well equipped to develop sustainable solutions to feeding a growing world over the next 100 years. More than ever before, humanity must find solutions to meet the grand challenges of global hunger and poverty marks the 100th birthday of Dr. Norman Borlaug, Father of the Green Revolution. Dr. Borlaug recognized the need to employ a multidisciplinary approach in training new leaders, from policy and economics, to engineering and agricultural sciences. To continue his legacy, the Borlaug 100 seeks to ensure that generations of future leaders realize their full potential with financially unimpeded access to the best training and education possible. 1

3 P R O G R A M S Borlaug International Scholars Fund The International Scholars Program aims to build productive partnerships with students and scientists from developing countries to help them address issues concerning agriculture and food security. The fund will ensure financial support for graduate degree training as well as short-term experiential training. Students will be selected to attend programs at Texas A&M University and partner land-grant universities throughout the United States. The Borlaug International Scholars Fund is administered by the Texas A&M University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. 2

4 P R O G R A M S International Field Internships International Field Internships will provide hands-on and in-depth experiences for undergraduate students by deploying them over the course of a semester to agriculture projects being conducted around the world. These opportunities would include internships with private, public, and non-government organizations. Students would be challenged to apply their particular academic expertise and would immerse themselves in different cultures and new environments. 3

5 P R O G R A M S World Food Prize Global Youth Institute The World Food Prize Global Youth Institute, a passion of Dr. Borlaug s, seeks to build the character of youth through exposing them to different cultures and broadening their perceptions of agriculture. Students are challenged to understand the economics, political, and social aspects that define it. Texas A&M University hosts the Texas chapter of the Institute. Each year, exceptional high school students attend a one-day competition on campus, where they interact with agricultural researchers and educators, tour facilities, and present their research and recommendations on how to solve key global challenges to a panel of judges. The top three students and their mentors are then selected to represent Texas at the World Food Prize Symposium and Global Youth Institute. Students and their teacher-mentors discuss pressing food security and agricultural issues with Nobel and World Food Prize Laureates, as well as leaders from governments, private sector, non-profit organizations and academia. Through their participation as delegates at the World Food Prize, they connect with other students from around the world, tour cutting-edge industrial and research facilities, and take part in symposium discussions with global leaders in science, industry and policy. 4
