Larry Jia, M.D., founded Zymo Research Corporation in With humble beginnings, he started manufacturing the first DNA/RNA extraction and purification products for E. coli and yeast out of a garage in Orange, California. Today, Zymo Research is a multi-million dollar company with its headquarters based in Irvine, California. In addition to its California headquarters, Zymo Research has two international branches located in Freiburg, Germany and Beijing, China. Originally from South Africa, Dr. Jones began his career as a research officer/chief research officer in his native land, and was a National Institute of Health Post-Doctoral Fellow at Children s Hospital Los Angeles. In 1977, he joined the faculty of Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, where he has been a distinguished professor of Urology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He was also the Director of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center from 1993 to 2011 and President of the American Association for Cancer Research in Steven Jacobsen, Ph.D., Professor, University of California Los Angeles Dr. Jacobsen is a professor of molecular, cell, and developmental biology at the University of California - Los Angeles. He conducts his work primarily on epigenetics research including cell memory, or the process by which dividing cells inherit states of gene activity. Dr. Jacobsen s research targets those epigenetic modifications of chromatin including cytosine DNA methylation and histone modifications, much of which stems from the discovery of a series of hypermethylated epigenetic alleles (SUPERMAN) in Arabidopsis thaliana. 5 Executive Management 5 Larry Jia, M.D., Founder and Director Dr. Jia has served as Deputy Chairman, Department of Hepatitis Viruses, Institute of Virology, at the Chinese Academy of Medical Science until 1989 prior to moving to the USA. Besides many original contributions in virology, Dr. Jia s discovery of the West Nile Virus in North America in 1999 highlights the direct impact of his research on viral pathogens in public health. He founded Zymo Research Corporation in 1994 and has acted as President and Director of Research & Development since that time. Under Dr. Jia s leadership, Zymo Research Corporation has grown to a multi-million dollar company with offices in China and Germany, as well as the corporate headquarters in the US. Graham Threadgill, Ph.D., Vice President of Global Marketing Dr. Graham Threadgill received a BSc. (hons) Applied Biology at Hatfield Polytechnic in He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1982 at King s College London. In 2008 he attained a Master of Business Administration degree from The Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California-Irvine. Marc Van Eden, Ph.D, Vice President of Business Development Dr. Marc Van Eden is currently the Vice President of Business Development at Zymo Research Corporation in Irvine, California, USA. Dr. Van Eden joined Zymo Research in Working as a scientist, he was instrumental in the development of several DNA lines of products. His research background is focused in molecular virology, oncology, and biochemistry, and his technical expertise includes a variety of DNA and RNA based techniques. His work has been published in numerous journals and in molecular medical encyclopedias. He recieved his Ph.D. in virology from the University of Freiburg in Upopn completion of his Ph.D., Dr. Martin remained at the University of Freiburg and joined Dr. Schwemmle s virology lab as a post-doc researcher. While working in Dr. Schwemmle s lab, he entered into a collaborative project with Zymo Research on RNA isolation. In 2012 Dr. Martin was hired by Zymo Research to be the Managing Director of ZRE. As managing director, he has helped reshape ZRE from a distribution hub to an allinclusive research, marketing, and distribution center supporting the territories of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

6 Research Directors 6 Yap Chew, Ph.D., Director of Epigenetics Dr. Yap Chew is currently the Director of Epigenetics at Zymo Research Corporation in Irvine, CA. Dr. Chew joined Zymo Research in 2012 as a scientist and made influential contributions to Zymo Research s industry leading line of epigenetic products. Her research background includes both epigenetic and genomic DNA/RNA based techniques. She has been published in multiple biochemistry journals and a molecular biology text book. Ryan Kemp, M.S., Director of Nucleic Acid Solutions Ryan Kemp is currently the Director of Nucleic Acid Solutions for Zymo Research Corporation in Irvine, CA. Kemp joined Zymo in 2012 as a research scientist, and has since led the development of multiple novel DNA and RNA purification technologies. His background is in organic chemistry where he developed artificial receptors for anion recognition, based on the siderophore enterobactin.
