3 About Us NanoMalaysia Berhad (NanoMalaysia) was mooted during National Innovation Council (NIC) meeting, chaired by the Right Honorable Prime Minister, Y.A.B. Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak on 14 February NanoMalaysia was then incorporated as Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG) in August 2011 under Section 24, Company Act 1965 to take the lead in commercialisation of nanotechnology products. NanoMalaysia is mandated as per Minister s Order (P.U. (A) 184) to: Act as a business entity entrusted to focus on the commercialization and development of nanotechnology Plan and coordinate the commercialization of R&D of nanotechnology in high-impact areas of focus such as electrical and electronics, food and agriculture, energy and environment, and health and medicine Plan and manage activities that contribute to the development of nanotechnology-based industries Strategize the positioning of nanotechnology industry of Malaysia in the global supply and value chain Facilitate investment in nanotechnology commercialization Facilitate the development of human capital (scientists and engineers, researchers and professionals) in the nanotechnology industry

5 Nanotechnology: New Engine For Economic Growth What is Nanotechnology? The science of materials and systems with structures and components that exist in the nano size scale (1-100 nm). Through nanoscale manipulation, the discovery of new materials, products, applications, and processes can be created, leading to entirely new industrial and socio- economics paradigm. i.e., enables systems that are smaller, lighter, less expensive, less power to run, etc. Source: OECD Report-Nanotechnology: An overview Based on Indicators & Statistics New engine for economic growth: Nanotechnology is a cost-effective enabling platform with huge potential. The nanotechnology sector is expected to grow exponentially for the next 10 years Average growth rate of 25% per annum
6 NANOTECHNOLOGY FOR OIL & GAS PGNF strengthen the wall of the well Energy & Environment SELF-CLEANING BUILDING When exposed to the Sun, the coating's oxidative property decomposes organic substances. The hydrophilic nature causes water that comes into contact with it to form an even layer, thereby allowing the dust and dirt that have accumulated on the surface to be washed away. Air Pollutant TiO 2 Titanium Dioxide Fresh Air
