4 ABOUT KING ABDULAZIZ CITY FOR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (KACST):
5 King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) is a nonprofit scientific governmental institution. It supports and enhances scientific applied research and coordinates the activities of government institutions and scientific research centers in accordance to the requirements of development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. KACST also distributes its scientific publications to researchers, students and interested members of the public. It is seeking to disseminate the written and translated scientific books in order to be available for a wide range of Arabic readers. All KACST publications are also available electronically as open content on its website; KACST - JOURNALS OF STRATEGIC TECHNOLOGIES 5
6 JOURNALS OF STRATEGIC TECHNOLOGIES
7 KACST has been working on an ecosystem that would enhance the success of National Plans for Science, Technology and Innovation. One component of such a complex ecosystem is to provide knowledge about the 15 strategic technologies for Saudi Arabia. KACST started with its partner, Springer, in 2011 to publish 5 journals; Applied Water Science, Journal of Petroleum Exploration and Production Technology, Applied Petrochemical Research, Applied Nanoscience, and 3 Biotech. Two more journals, Materials for Renewable & Sustainable Energy and Complex & Intelligent Systems, have been lately added to the previous ones in 2013 and 2014, respectively. KACST, by publishing these journals, is providing the researchers in Saudi Arabia and worldwide with the latest developments and research in the areas of these journals, in addition of, making them available for researchers to publish their research results. The journals are open access and publish without charging the authors. KACST - JOURNALS OF STRATEGIC TECHNOLOGIES 7
