1 Predator PDM v10.0 What s New Latest features and benefits in v10.0 Before Installing v10.0 Predator PDM v10.0 requires Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2003 Server or 2008 Server. Existing customers that have older versions of Windows that desire a newer version of Windows should upgrade Windows prior to installing v10.0 of Predator PDM. Existing PDM customers should backup the database and the vault folder prior to upgrading. Predator PDM Administrator v10.0 will upgrade the database and the vault folder automatically from v9.x versions to v10.0. After the database has been upgrade to v10.0 older versions of Predator PDM will not be able to use the database or the vault folder. Microsoft Internet Explorer v5.x or later and the Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 is required to be installed before installing Predator PDM v Predator Software Inc. All rights reserved. Why v10.0? By design, the primary goal of this release is intended to provide more flexibility and control of shop floor documents. Significant new features include dynamic viewing, quality status, shared files, default statuses, status based permissions and new APIs. In addition, we have significantly improved command line variables and custom commands. Numerous new features, new components and performance improvements have been added for better day to day operation. Along the way support for Windows 7 has been improved. Finally support for a new product Predator PDM Enterprise has been added. Existing Predator PDM customers can optionally upgrade to Predator PDM Enterprise. Details of what s new are explained throughout this document and within the online help. Installing v10.0 The v10 installation is based on a single.msi image. By default installation occurs in the \program files\predator software\pdm 10.0 folder within a 32bit version of Windows. 64bit editions of Windows defaults to \program files (x86)\predator software\pdm 10.0 folder. If you were previously running v9.x we recommend uninstalling v9.x prior to installing v10.0. Latest features and benefits of v10.0 1

2 V10.0 Serial Numbers and Access Codes Version 10 includes a serial number and an access code that are required after the installation during registration of the software. NOTE: The serial number must start with 0A if this is not the case contact us. Predator PDM Network Installations of v10.0 By committing to store the product installation on a server, users will enjoy automatic healing of all critical files upon running Predator PDM. For example, suppose a user accidentally deletes ppdm.exe. Under normal circumstances he would be down and the software would fail to run. With v10.0 when the user double clicks the desktop shortcut all critical files are checked and if necessary restored from the network server and the software begins to run automatically. The easiest way to perform a network installation is to step through the following: 1. Copy the contents of the CD to a \predator cd images\cd48\ or similar directory. 2. Run the setuppdm.exe from the CD48 directory. NOTE: Should any automatic healing be necessary, Predator PDM will be able to automatically extract the necessary files from the appropriate files stored in the CD48 directory. If you install from a CD, Predator PDM will be forced to prompt for the CD. What s New in v10.0? New! Predator PDM Enterprise A new product Predator PDM Enterprise is now available with v10. This means there are two editions and the specific differences between Predator PDM and Predator PDM Enterprise are detailed within the Predator PDM v10 feature grid. New! 4 Components 4 new components have been added to v10.0 of Predator PDM. These new components are cost center, work center, machine type and report type. These new components can be created, edited, deleted, viewed, reported and imported just like all other components and can be assigned to specific vaults. These new components provide additional flexibility to PDM itself while also providing tighter integration options for ERP, MES, scheduling, and other business applications. New! 100+ Permissions Predator PDM v10.0 adds over 100 additional user and user group permissions for most new features. New! 9 Command Shortcuts Predator PDM v10.0 adds 9 new command shortcuts for the most common commands. For example Ctrl+R for Release and Ctrl+U for UnRelease. 3 New! Dynamic Reference Attachment Viewing Dynamic reference attachment viewing is now supported within v10 of Predator PDM. So any component s reference attachments are automatically displayed when selected within View Vault, View Released Vault and the shop floor view. New! Dynamic Component Details Dynamic component detail viewing is now supported within v10 of Predator PDM. So any component s details are automatically displayed in the grid when selected within View Vault and View Released Vault. New! Quality Status A new quality status is now available within v10 of Predator PDM which is independent from manufacturing status. Quality statuses can be customized to match the workflow of each manufacturer. For example quality statuses can manage attach files, release vault items, unreleased vault items, rollback vault items and delete vault items. The statuses can now control the availability of these commands. This is designed to better manage the workflow and data retention requirements once production has started. Similar to manufacturing statuses, quality statuses are optional. New! User and Group Permissions for Manufacturing Status Predator PDM Administrators can fine tuning which manufacturing statuses are available to assign to each vault item can now be managed per user or user group. For example, machinists can assign a subset of manufacturing statuses while manufacturing engineers can assign a different subset of manufacturing statuses. New! User and Group Permissions for Quality Status Predator PDM Administrators can fine tuning which quality statuses are available to assign to each vault item can now be managed per user or user group. For example, machinists can assign a subset of quality statuses while quality engineers can assign a different subset of quality statuses. New! Vault Option Delete after Check In A new vault option can be enabled per vault which automatically deletes local files after a successful checkin. This option minimizes duplicate files while improving the security of the system. New! Delete Manufacturing Status A new option allows manufacturing status to be cleared or deleted from the current vault item. This feature can also be controlled via permissions. New! Delete Quality Status A new option allows quality status to be cleared or deleted from the current vault item. This feature can also be controlled via permissions. New! Custom Command Options New custom command options have been added to force the application to be launched in a hidden, minimized, maximized and default windows. Finally an option to keep viewing the current file or to unload the current file prior to launching the command has been added. Latest features and benefits of v10.0 3

4 New! Hide Old Versions A new option to automatically hide old versions/revisions of vault items has now been added to View Vault and View Released Vault within v10 of Predator PDM. This option is designed focus on the released, pending and in process revisions. New! Attach File A new feature to optionally attach files to released vault items has been added. This option is designed to allow certificates or inspection files to be added to a vault item. This can be controlled with permissions. New! 3 Command Line Options Three new command line options -viewvaultasset hiderememberpassword and hidedatabase have been added. This new command line options are designed to improve support of bar codes, simplify shop floor viewing and improve security. New! Shared Files A new option within Predator PDM for shared files has been added. Shared files are managed with revision control and can be attached to multiple vault items. Revising a shared file can automatically update all vault items. New, Edit, Check In, Check Out, Revise, Release, Rollback and UnRelease wizards have all been updated to support shared files. Shared files are designed to reduce the number of managed files and to simplify manufacturing operation documentation. Several new commands have been added to support shared files including: Shared Library, Share File, Share File With, UnShare File and Share History. Two new dialogs have been added Share Library and Share History. Within the Share Library folders can be used to organize individual shared files within each vault. Within the Share History current and previous revisions of a specific shared file can be viewed. New! 2 Manufacturing Status Reports Two new options to report manufacturing statuses have been added to Predator PDM v10. New! 2 Quality Status Reports Two new options to report quality statuses have been added to Predator PDM v10. New! Importing Predator PDM v10.0 adds importing of 18 new components. Importing has also been enhanced to support new shared files and shared attachments. Finally importing of reference attachments for 29 components has been added. New! Trace Command Line Argument A new trace command line argument has been added. Version 10 of Predator PDM adds trace log files to troubleshoot security, group policy, vault and temporary folder access. New! Toolbar Buttons Predator PDM v10.0 adds additional toolbar buttons for Share, Share With, UnShare, Edit Attachment Notes to the View Vault, View Released Vault and shop floor dialogs. New! Edit Attachment Notes Predator PDM v10.0 adds the ability to edit attachment notes to individual files within View Vault, View Released Vault and shop floor view. 5 New! MDC Events Predator PDM Enterprise A new option within Predator PDM Enterprise for MDC Events has been added. This dialog is identical to the one within Predator MDC and is designed for manual data collection. This is designed reduce the number of applications to install and support on shop floor PCs. New! Check In Predator PDM Enterprise A new option within Predator PDM Enterprise for Check In has been added. This dialog is identical to the one within Predator Tracker and is designed for tool and gage check in. Support for printing of receipts and return reports are included. This is designed reduce the number of applications to install and support on shop floor PCs. New! Check Out Predator PDM Enterprise A new option within Predator PDM Enterprise for Check Out has been added. This dialog is identical to the one within Predator Tracker and is designed for tool and gage check out. Support for printing receipts and pull reports are included. These new objects are cost center, work center, machine type, report type, material type, material, cutter material type, insert material type, tool type, tool, cutter type, cutter, insert type insert, gage type, gage, kit type and kit. APIs for these new objects include new, edit, delete and more just like all other objects. These new APIs provide tighter integration options for ERP, MES, scheduling, and other business applications. New! 11 PDM APIs 11 new PDM APIs have been added to v10.0 of Predator PDM. API functionality includes Adding files, Adding Shared files, Adding URLs, Check In, Check Out, Delete Files, Delete vault items, Edit vault items, New Shared file and New vault item. These new APIs provide tighter integration options for ERP, MES, scheduling, and other business applications. New! External Language Files Support for external language files has been added with v10 of Predator PDM and to Predator PDM APIs. For example English.str, EnglishAPI.str, Chinese.str and Spanish.str these language files can be edited at any time and eliminate the need to compile international resources within ppdm.exe. Finally a new command line argument -language has been added to force a specific resource file to be specified. By default the Windows edition will determine the default language. New! 37 Command Line Variables 37 new command line variables have been added to v10 of Predator PDM. These new variables provide additional flexibility and minimize the requirement of scripts and custom applications. These new dialog prompt style variables provide additional flexibility and minimize the requirement of scripts and custom applications. The following new dialog prompts are now available \FileOpen \FileSave and \Prompt which display the File Open dialog, File Save dialog or a custom prompt dialog. New! Automatic Recall within Shop Floor Dialog Support for automatic recall due to unrelease, rollback, manufacturing status, quality status changes to released vault items within the shop floor dialog. Predator PDM verifies the validity of the released vault item once a minute. Should a released vault item be recalled an error message is displayed and all custom commands are disabled. 7 New! Status Report Predator PDM v10 provides listings of vault items that have specific engineering, manufacturing and/or quality statuses with a new Status Report. Within View Vault a filter can be applied by right clicking within the tree view prior to imitating the Status Report. New! Checked Out Report Predator PDM v10 provides listings of vault items that are currently checked out with a new Checked Out Report. Within View Vault a filter can be applied by right clicking within the tree view prior to imitating the Checked Out Report. New! Where Used Report Predator PDM v10 provides listings of vault items that have the specified common component. Within View Vault the specific component can be selected by right clicking within the tree view prior to imitating the Where Used Report. New! Externally Edited Reports Predator PDM v10 provides 4 new reports of components that have been changed with other Predator applications. New! Purged Reports Predator PDM v10 provides 16 new reports of components that have been deleted. New! Default Manufacturing and Quality Statuses Predator PDM Administrators can now configure default manufacturing and quality statuses per workflow commands. For example when a vault item is released default manufacturing and quality statuses can automatically be assigned. New! F5 Manual Refresh Within View Vault and View Released Vault the F5 function key can be used to manually refresh the current vault item. New! Asset Number Display Asset numbers for each revision of each vault item are now displayed within View Vault and View Released Vault. New! Find via Asset Number A new option to find vault items by an asset number has now been added to View Vault and View Released Vault. This option is designed to work with bar codes. New! 34 History Report Shortcuts Predator PDM v10 provides 34 new History Report shortcuts within all View Components. New! French Language Support Support for French has been added to v10 of Predator PDM. New! German Language Support Support for German has been added to v10 of Predator PDM. New! Japanese Language Support Support for Japanese has been added to v10 of Predator PDM. New! Spanish Language Support Support for Spanish has been added to v10 of Predator PDM. Microsoft Windows 7 and Vista Support Support for Microsoft Windows 7 and Vista has been improved with v10.0 of Predator PDM with a new default folder structure which separates data from the application itself. Improved! Scroll bars and Splitter bars Scroll bars and splitter bars have been improved within View Vault, View Released Vault, Share Library, Share History and Shop Floor dialogs. Improved! Active Window Border Support for Window s user definable Active Window Borders has been added. Previously only the default was supported within v10 any size is supported. Improved! Vaults Vaults have been improved with the option to support reference attachments. In addition vault password lengths have been extended to support longer passwords. Improved! Help About The help about dialog has been improved to display the pathname of the resource file that is being used. Improved! New Vault Item The New Vault Item dialog has been improved with more intelligent focus when creating new components. Improved! Manufacturing Status Manufacturing statuses has been improved to manage attach files, release vault items, unreleased vault items, rollback vault items and delete vault items. The statuses can now control the availability of these commands. This is designed to better manage the workflow and data retention requirements once production has started. Improved! Editing Components Improved editing components within View Vault with attachments. Improved! Lists Version 10 of Predator PDM improves the list component to provide better data entry, notes and attachments. In addition, format strings per list has been added. This can be used to create O numbers and automatically increment for the next O number. Finally, improvements to list viewing and reporting have been added. Improved! History Report Version 10 of Predator PDM improves history reporting with custom command execution details.
