1 Radiological Information System Mohamad Zamri Bin Mohamad Zin Senior Radiographer & PACS Clinical Administrator Department of Biomedical Imaging Computer software designed to store, manipulate and retrieve information for planning, organizing, directing and controlling administrative activities associated with the provision and utilization of radiology services and facilities Mondofacto online medical dict5onary PACS consists of four major components: is a combination of hardware and software dedicated to the short and long term storage, retrieval, management, distribution and presentation of images. Electronic images and reports are transmitted digitally via PACS, this eliminates the need to manually file, retrieve or transport x-ray film envelope.. Imaging modalities such as CR, Angio, CT, MRI and etc 2. A secured network for the transmission of patient information 3. Workstations for interpreting and reviewing images 4. Archives component for the storage and retrieval of images and reports. Combined with available and emerging Web technology.

(Senior Radiographers) Give input to IT staff and vendor regarding: Department s workflow for designing and layout of RIS and PACS. Identify who can access the PACS and what they can do permission. What should the Radiologists, Radiographers and Clinicians have for their account. 4 After installation Implementation (PACS & RIS Clinical Administrator) Make sure all patient s data and images are available in RIS and PACS. Patient s data and image data are correct. Repair and make correction using RIS and PACS application. If repair is unsuccessful, report it to IT department. Follow up all problems that are being escalated to the IT department and vendor. Merged, unmerged or delete patient s data or images. RIS and PACS Admin. training 4

5 Manage activities that require co-operative effort between the imaging dept and IT personnel, Radiology administrators, modality service personnel and RIS & PACS vendor. Manage system security to ensure that unauthorised people cannot access vital information on the system. Maintain a written record of all RIS Clients installed with physical location, hardware configuration, date and time of installation, date and time of software and hardware upgrade, software revision levels, etc. Assign and update user and system passwords and maintain a secure list of them. Periodically check to ensure that the studies are flowing from the modalities to the archive, and integrated to the RIS for reporting purposes. Update the applicable RIS system configuration forms as new modalities, IMPAX workstations, and RIS procedure codes are added over time. Assist end users with questions related to RIS ( features and functions). Identifies and investigates operational problems within Imaging department that utilises PACS. Be in the advisory position to advise users and vendor on any conflict between the clinical workflow and the functionalities of the PACS applications. Assist end users with questions related to the PACS clinical (functionalities) matters Periodically check to ensure that the data are logical and linked correctly Advise vendor on changes to the clinical requirements that warrants for new or additional configuration Act as the escalation point for any clinical related problems or change requests required by the users PACS Clinical Administrator s Job Descriptions contd.
