A bank being part of one of the major international banks is, leading in one of the most fast-growing contactless countries in the region. Dual interface cards are being significantly issued in the country and are becoming a standard product. 14 «All-in-one» card, Transport & Payment: a natural convergence Transport operators have been issuing contactless smart cards for years, based on closed loop payment (Mifare, Desfire, Calypso) bringing speed and convenience all around the world. 17 Back in 2007 and with the perspective at that time of the Football World Cup in 2010, the government launched a major program to modernize the country s public transport infrastructure and services, transforming it into an integrated Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system. 20 The Gemalto contactless card will enable the bank's end-users to experience the speed and convenience of contactless transactions waving or tapping the card at the reader for low-value purchases up to 20, while online PIN code will be used to authorize higher value transactions. To underpin this vision, the bank is simultaneously creating an infrastructure with 15,000 merchants equipped with contactless payment terminals and 500 ATMs featuring built-in contactless readers. 25 Global Acceptance EMV payment cards offer higher security, convenience and global interoperability. Europe has been migrating to EMV payment cards and now this technology is the dominant one in the region. Many other regions have followed this trend. UNFCU (United Nations Federal Credit Union) is a cooperative financial institution headquartered in New York City which offers a wide array of flexible savings, loans, investment and insurance products, as well as advisory services. With members in 212 countries and $3.5 billion in assets UNFCU is ranked 28th among nearly 7,300 federal credit unions in the United States in terms of total assets. U.S. travelers are increasingly having trouble using magnetic stripe bank cards abroad, especially in offline applications like taxis unattended ticketing and payment kiosks. UNFCU members had problems with global payment acceptance and forward compatibility for both online and offline transactions. After partnering with Gemalto, UNFCU was able to provide Clarista Java DDA cards with global EMV (Europay MasterCard Visa) compliancy to their customers so they could perform transactions abroad. 27 Security comes first Security is one of the major concerns for issuers and cardholders. Shift from SDA (Static Data Authentication) to DDA (Dynamic Data Authentication) is a proven means to reduce fraud; and the reason why Visa and MasterCard have mandated DDA for all their EMV cards in Europe by January Following this tendency, similar mandates are expected in the rest of the world. Diners Club International, part of Discover Financial Services, is a global payments network with acceptance in more than 185 countries. Gemalto supports Diners Club issuers worldwide in their EMV migration projects with smart banking cards and the associated issuance services. While striving to provide services and support that go far beyond transactions, Diners Club Spain needed increased security for their customers. In February 2012 Diners Club Spain and Gemalto announced a Clarista DDA payment cards deployment in addition with consulting and personalization services contract. Diners Club card holders can now benefit from security and the convenience of EMV while they are performing transactions using Discover international network of merchants. Increased security for cardholders is translated in higher user retention and activation. 29 Biometric authentication Biometric authentication has been used to provide higher transaction security than what can be achieved with common PIN authentication. Various banks around the world have implemented biometric authentication like fingerprints to validate transactions. One of the largest financial institutions on the Brazilian market with branches across Latin America and Europe. Today there are people in Brazil who open bank accounts with fake documentation; therefore fraud reduction is a major interest for this customer. 31 Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) is used to manage and administrate digital certificates and bundle them with specific user identities. With the usage of this infrastructure, banks are becoming able to provide card holders with a highly secure and reliable way of authentication. The customer is a large bank in Northern Europe which accounts for millions of users; a relevant portion of those users are also eusers. The customer needs to constantly deliver digital certificates (which at the same time are issued by Local Certificate Authorities) to its end consumers so they can login to online services and sign documents in an electronic way. During 2012, Gemalto partnered with the bank to provide cards with EMV + PKI applications. The EMV application can be either Visa or M/Chip4 and the PKI loaded in the card is Gemalto's IAS Classic v3. Northern Europe NEED Deliver digital certificates to allow consumers to sign documents in an electronic way. Brazil NEED To offer students a unique tool that can be used as identification, epurse and more. SOLUTION Multi-application card with contactless EMV BENEFIT Smart cards with new features including EMV security, and digital ID Banco Santander is one of the largest financial institutions in the world. It accounts for more than 100 million customers worldwide and operates over 40 countries. Since 1995, the bank has been providing University smart cards and they currently represent 4.2 million cards deployed in 200 universities across 12 countries. There are still room for more. Interested in the continuous growth of the number of universities using smart cards, Banco Santander was looking to offer to Brazil University's students and staff members this unique tool that could be used as identification, epurse, library loan, parking access card and much more. Santander Universities program, created in 1996, is a collaborative program with universities and is present in 20 countries. Within this program, Banco Santander offers a Student Smart Card (SSC), a university card which serves as personal identification, but also offers other services such as the ability to check academic files from ATMs and information points installed on campus, management of library lending and control of access to restricted areas and to computers.

35 Holders can use the cards as ATM or debit cards, and also obtain discounts at a large number of retailers. Electronic signatures, special discounts on public transport, loan of bicycles, and management of universities sport services are, for the moment, the latest services to be added to the card. Gemalto previously partnered with Banco Santander to provide a multi-application card in other Santander University Smart card programs around the world. In November 2011 Gemalto announced that Banco Santander continued its relationship with Gemalto in order to issue university cards to Brazilian students. For the Brazilian market, contactless EMV is also provided in the card. Besides the speed and convenience of contactless payments, students in Brazil will continue enjoying the features of the university smart cards they already have. These features include EMV security, digital ID, strong authentication and access to university facilities, as well as public transportation in some universities. Also, Banco Santander benefits from the customer base adhered to the University program.
