1 Software Announcement July 11, 2000 CATIA Version 5, Release 4: Enhanced Process Coverage for Styling, Shape Design, and Manufacturing Overview With Release 4, CATIA Version 5 has doubled its product portfolio in one year. Capabilities of all previously announced products are also doubled. Release 4 sustains the CATIA Version 5 commitment to fabrication and assembly and extends its integrated process coverage with 12 new products and 5 new configurations. A new P1 to P2 migration path lets you take full advantage of Version 5 scalability. The power and range of CATIA Version 5 make it the leading-edge solution to help manufacturers reengineer their way from 2D-centered fabrication and assembly to 3D end-to-end processing. The product, process, resource (PPR) orientation brings new 2.5-axis machining to the shop floor in the easy-to-learn, easy-to-use environment of Version 5. Complete integration with other CATIA applications enables communication and change propagation to ensure overall project consistency. Release 4 significantly extends process coverage for shape design, styling, and analysis with new and enhanced products. Competitive hybrid mechanical design capabilities support complex part design, such as power trains. High-quality sweeps and lofts and blending and healing help handle complex shapes. New digitized data processing and photorealistic rendering extend support in the consumer goods and automotive domains. Solving and pre- and post-processing capabilities improve in-context analysis with the introduction of additional advanced Elfini options for specialists. Electrical system definition, electrical parts catalogs, and wire management in the digital mock-up support electrical processes with a supplemental approach to CATIA Version 4. 2 Description Industrial-Strength Support for Production Deployment The proven architecture of CATIA Version 5 enables process-oriented customers of any size to build solutions for digital product definition and simulation. Its breadth of applications, level of robustness, ease of use, and ease of learning enable immediate deployment by new customers as well as supplemental usage by Version 4 customers. Integrated Solutions for Full Fabrication and Assembly Release 4 sustains the CATIA Version 5 commitment to fabrication and assembly support consistently demonstrated with Release 3. CATIA Version 5 Release 3, now in production, brings Version 5 ease of use and scalability to address the specific needs and skills in the same user-friendly environment. Release 4 provides full process coverage from product design and detailing and integrated analysis to manufacturing with a new prismatic machining product that integrates fabrication and assembly. CATIA Version 5 Release 4 expands support of customer requirements, including: Standard parts catalogs Complete sheetmetal design integration Structure design Large assembly and bills of material management Assembly design, part design, and wireframe design, together with generative and interactive drafting, are all optimized for enhanced 2D/3D integration. These products support production of 2D drawings while delivering the benefits of 3D design for complex part creation. SmarTeam Version 4.0 delivers leading-edge data management for small and medium-sized customers. As a result, Release 4 now offers solutions to support 2D-centered fabrication and assembly customers in their reengineering efforts to move to 3D end-to-end processes. You can increase your P1 investment to P2-level function via a new migration path. Included in Release 4 is a defined path from the P1 Mechanical Design Configuration (5691-MD1) to the P2 Mechanical Design Configuration (5691-MD2). Other paths are available through the special bid process. New Generation Manufacturing Solutions Shop-floor oriented manufacturing solutions provide the ease of use of CATIA Version 5 while building on years of experience with CATIA and Euclid Machinist. Release 4 introduces a dedicated 2.5-axis machining product that leverages the new generation of industry-leading CAM technology from CATIA Version 4 to bring ease of use and native Windows implementation to the manufacturing floor. The CATIA Version 5 Manufacturing Solution is based on the unique PPR concept, ensuring consistency and associativity between the product (P) definition, the manufacturing process (P), and the resources required for manufacturing (R). This concept enables communication and rapid change propagation throughout the entire process from design to shop floor, ensuring overall project consistency. Extended Process Coverage with Key Enhancements in Style and Shape Design, Analysis, and Equipment Surpassing the benefits of extended parametric models, CATIA Version 5 includes a scalable suite of natively-integrated knowledgeware products, including CATIA Knowledge Advisor, CATIA Generative Knowledge, and CATIA Knowledge Expert. You can choose from among a variety of methods to leverage knowledge for achieving productivity increases and cost reductions. Methods range from imbedding knowledge in individual designs to the capture and sharing of best product and process development practices across the product life-cycle at the corporate level. Release 4 enriches this suite with the CATIA Product Engineering Optimizer and enhanced shape design to support the complexity of such processes as powertrain or chassis design. To extend CATIA shape modeling from styled to complex mechanical shape engineering, Release 4 adds the CATIA FreeStyle Profiler product. The Profiler introduces curve-based design to complement the surface-based approach used for consumer goods and automotive designers involved in Class A. Critical mechanical shape design features, such as healing, blending, and complex filleting, are added to the Generative Shape Design product. The CATIA Digitized Shape Editor extends shape design process coverage. You can establish a link between a physical model and CATIA Version 5 through importing, filtering, and handling any digitized data set (cloud of points, polygons). CATIA Photo Studio is a new communication tool for stylists and others involved in the product design process in automotive and consumer goods. Non-specialists can rapidly create viewpoints and scenes for photo-realistic rendering to better evaluate and communicate design results and changes without a physical model. These improvements allow designers to concentrate on creativity and to exploit the existing shape design and styling suite provided in CATIA Version 5. CATIA Version 5 Release 4 provides enhanced solutions for part and assembly stress analysis and for pre- and post-processing, offering better productivity and ease of use in the design context with simultaneous stress and modal analysis and integration of analysis in knowledgeware. The Elfini Structural Analysis product supports multiload, multirestraint, and multimass configurations and introduces additional analysis tools for specialists in the CATIA Version 5 portfolio. Taking advantage of technical leadership in electrical harness solutions, CATIA Version 5 introduces the Electrical System Functional Definition and Electrical Wire Routing products to support the ever-increasing demand and complexity of electrical processes in manufacturing. The Electrical Library product implements electrical part libraries and the generation of catalogs from CATIA Version 4 products. Optimal integration of electrical parts in the Digital Mock-up environment is ensured because both Electrical Wiring Design and Electrical Library support integration with ENOVIAVPM, with a supplemental approach for CATIA Version 4 customers. New conferencing capabilities in CATIA DMU Navigator for design review and simulation increase collaboration within project teams. New automatic mounting trajectories and kinematics definitions,

3 derived from assembly specifications, increase design-in-context productivity, and support maintenance operations throughout the entire product life-cycle. Integration with ENOVIA Enterprise System New support for DMU Navigator products of multiple CAD 2D document viewing, in addition to embedded Web publishing, lets you integrate DMU initiatives within the ENOVIA Portal. This DMU support is strengthened with the introduction of interoperability with ENOVIAVPM Version 1.3 for effective linking of product, process, and resources in design context. Enhancements described for a P1 product also apply to the P2 product. Mechanical Design Solutions CATIA Assembly Design 1 (AS1) File and Document Management Release 4 provides enhanced catalog integration through File menu dialogs and a Save all as choice. Product Structure: Structures can be reordered to better emphasize the intent of the design. When drafting from an assembly, the user can use tags from the drawing to create a numbering or tagging scheme that is applied to each instance of the assembly. In this way, the user can reuse tags for such elements as BOM attributes, title block information, and 2D ballooning layouts in a consistent way. Mechanical Assembly: When creating constraints, the system implicitly switches between design and visualization modes to save user interactions. Components that are not updated can be analyzed using an Analyze + Update window. Design in Context of an Assembly: The ability to snap onto a local axis provides complete part design integration. Local axes can be created in Part Design and then snapped together as a global entity or as subelements. Catalogs: Release 4 delivers sample catalogs for standard mechanical parts (screws, nuts, bolts, pins, keys). Parts in the sample catalogs comply with the applicable ISO, EN, JIS, and ANSI standards. CATIA Part Design 1 (PD1) Associative Feature-based and Hybrid Modeling: Define axis systems and then use them in a Part Design feature definition. For example, put a constraint on an axis system or create a pad up to a surface. Enhanced dress-up features and new dress-up features, such as draft reflect line. Define a mirror and a pattern of a set of features. Enhanced solid loft capabilities. Use wireframe features as parents of pads and pockets for better integration of Part Design with the Wireframe and Surface and Generative Shape Design products. Accurately define threads for hole features by specifying the main parameters (major or minor parameters, depth, thread) or by precisely drawing the thread representation in the 2D sheet generated by the Generative Drafting product. Design Reuse: A new power copy function allows a set of features (geometry, literals, formulas, constraints) created for one design to be used in another by storing them in an Object Manager catalog. Unlike basic copy-paste operations, the replacement is done with the assistance of a 3D viewer during the paste operation so that the pasted features do not have to be updated in context. Sketching and 3D Design in Assembly Context: The set of wireframe elements that can be created is extended to include bi-tangent lines, tri-tangent circles, and symmetric lines. The drawing copilot now permits the explicit creation of elements parallel, perpendicular, or tangent to other elements using a contextual menu. Geometries can be modified dynamically by manipulating either the relimited element or the geometric support element. General ergonomic improvements have been made for all sketching and 3D design functions. Modification Management: Extend the reroute-on-error capability introduced in Release 3 to all Part Design, Wireframe & Surface, and Sketcher features. Edit or replace the sketch when editing a pad, pocket, shaft, groove, hole, or stiffener. Move a body or a set of features with the 3D compass in a free context. 3D Parameterization: Create constraints between bodies or features from the 3D representation. Support of Multipart Bodies: Link a body with the part body through a pad/pocket up to surface relationship. Catalog Access: The user interface now supports the preview of components. 5 CATIA Generative Drafting 1 (GD1) Integrated dress-up capabilities for post-generation dimensioning and annotation now include the ability to create associative balloons. Graphic modifications of 2D generated geometries are kept up to date. All graphic modifications (line type, color, thickness, show/no show) are available. Hole thread generation is available for all views. Both top and side representations are generated. Call-outs and profiles can be edited: Edit call-outs to modify such properties as thickness, line type, and arrow size. Edit profiles to modify re-limitation or the position of the existing profile. Isolate generated views as sketched elements to complete a drawing. Generate broken views to simplify the representation of long parts. Manage background views by applying an existing background view from the first sheet of a drawing or from another drawing when creating a new sheet or when modifying the sheet format with the page set-up menu. Provide stamping feature integration for sheetmetal. CATIA Wireframe & Surface (WS1) New Associative Wireframe Elements: Points between, extremum, and coordinate with reference Curves combined curves Helixes Conics New Loft Surface Feature: Closing points can be created on the fly. Feature Replication: Wireframe and Surface associative capabilities can be used to replicate a particular feature. The designer can use a newly created feature as a reference and then recreate the same feature any number of times. For example, in a single operation the designer could create a number of equidistant points on a curve, parallel planes, or parallel curves. Reroute on Error: The structure editor selects new faces, edges, or vertices when the specifications for these features cannot be found after a modification. CATIA Sheetmetal Design 1 (SM1) New modeling features for designing from scratch or in an assembly context: Optional bend-on-the-fly capability for walls Triangular, rectangular, and circular corner relievers for intersecting bends For thin extrusions, specifications to limit planes and surfaces with cutting remaining perpendicular to the sheet Modeling features for joint and tag management between walls Support for multiple manufacturing processes: Breakforming Stamping Enhanced drawing capability: Bend limit representation on the 3D unfolded representation of a part Bend center line representation on drafting representations of the part CATIA Interactive Drafting 1 (ID1) Enhanced 2D Design Capabilities: The set of wireframe elements available to create views has been expanded to include bi-tangent lines, tri-tangent circles, and symmetric lines. A new contextual menu in the 2D drawing copilot allows the user to explicitly create elements parallel, perpendicular, or tangential to other elements. The multiview copilot now allows the user to: -- Explicitly select elements so that line folding is taken into account -- Specify for each view a 3D plane to lie on, enabling all types of 3D correspondence between views and extending the copilot to include such capabilities as auxiliary views When dynamically modifying a view, the modification can now be applied to either the re-limited element or to the geometric support element. The ability to perform multiple break or re-limit operations at the same time enhances user productivity. Release 4 also includes 2D design ergonomic improvements. 2D Component Definition and Reuse: Enhanced 2D component definition and reuse through the management of external component catalogs. Catalogs provide multilevel (component-within-a-component) referencing. Catalogs can include any type of 2D element, such as geometry, annotation, and dress-up. Any element of a component instance can be annotated or dimensioned with full associativity. Components can be searched for using queries and filters. Catalogs have an easy-to-use, drag-and-drop interface. Drawings with components are extracted from a catalog as a standalone entity so that they can be sent to a subcontractor or partner without sending the entire catalog. The associativity between the components and their definition is always retained. Dimensioning: Complete set of dimension types, including ordinate (cumulate) and chamfer dimensions. Both geometric and dress-up elements (such as axis lines) can be dimensioned. 2D View Annotation: Tools for precise positioning of annotations, including regular spacing along the X-Y axis Ability to add zigzag leaders on all types of annotations and to easily modify their anchor point on the annotation Associative Text for 2D Views: Replicate text by reusing the attributes and formats defined for a feature on other features

6 Create balloons associated to the part number (on views of 3D assemblies created using the Generative Drafting products). New Checking and Analysis Tools: Complete set of exact measurements between 2D elements (integration of the DMU Space Analysis measuring tool) Dimension analysis tool for graphically visualizing the status of dimensions, such as Out of Date, Non-associative, Fake, Driving, True Length, and Converted to Graphic. A 3D pointer for visualizing on the 3D element (surface or edge) and in the other views the elements corresponding to an edge in a view. This tool is available for both 2D geometries and generative drafting geometries. Compliance with International Standards (ISO, ANSI, JIS): Customization: -- Standard values for dimension and annotation representation can be declared in a text file. -- Standards can be enriched by defining styles for value displays and for dimension tolerances. -- A default can be defined for each type of element. Once defined, the default can be applied when creating an element of the type. -- All graphic attributes can be copied from one element to a set of elements. Line Thickness: The user can define line thickness, including separate values for print and for on-screen display. DXF/DWG file import: -- DXF/DWG can be inserted into an existing drawing through the Insert file choice in the Tools menu. -- Support for managing layers, mapping line types, controlling import scale, and paper and model spaces is added. DXF/DWG file export: -- Release 4 adds support for AutoCAD versions R12 and R Each sheet can now be exported as a separate DXF/DWG file. Integration with Knowledgeware Applications and Tools: Formulas and parameters can be defined with the ability to display them in tree views. Dimension values can be used a parameters, enabling, for example, the ability to create relationships between driving dimensions. Shape Design and Styling Solutions CATIA Real Time Rendering 1 (RT1) The intuitive and specification-driven approach to applying predefined materials to parts is extended to products. Material specifications are set in.cgr or.model files. Specifications can be applied in the early stages of design, even before the geometry representation exists, allowing the user to enrich the product definition at the conceptual design stage. Associativity between the material library and material applied to the textured geometry of both parts and products is controlled. Ensures consistency in case of modification. Permits local modification of materials characteristics by direct edit of the properties of the material features. Product Synthesis Solutions CATIA DMU Space Analysis 1 (SP1 ) Batch mode is available for large scale interference checking. Multiple measurements: Enhances the ability to perform exact measurements on and between products, parts, and features. Elements for which multiple types of measurements can be performed include the axis of a cylinder and the radius of a cylinder or sphere. Additionally, Space Analysis can now perform the same measurement on multiple elements of the same kind, such as all the edges on a surface, in one operation. Mass and Inertial Characteristic Measurements: You can compute the mass and the inertial characteristics of faceted and exact volume type parts and products. Compute the following for faceted and exact objects: -- Volume -- Center of gravity -- Main inertia matrix -- Inertia matrix around any point -- Inertia matrix around any axis Compute inertial main axes Obtain density information Print reports in external files Visual Basic Access for Inertia: Obtain, through a script mechanism (IDL): -- Inertial properties on a product or assembly -- Volume of a product or an assembly Launched through the macro mode from CATIA Version 5 Automates some computations and integrates the results in other processes CATIA DMU Navigator 1 (DN1) File and Document Management: View 2D documents. Save the product structure tree as a.txt file or in STEP AP203 format. Product Structure Management: Models can be snapped into place using contacts between faces and axes. State Management: Develop Visual Basic (VB) scripts of states. Multiple Mock-up Inspection: Collisions are automatically avoided during fly mode navigation

7 Design Review Environment: Camera manipulation is drastically improved by enabling common pan and rotate commands to be used directly in the camera window. Collaborative Project Review: Shared Conferencing (via External Tools): Works with Microsoft NetMeeting 3.01 and Lotus Sametime 1.5 on Windows NT, SunForum on Sun, and SGI Meeting on SGI. The participants share the same view of the master application and can interact with it. Replicated Conferencing Works only with Microsoft NetMeeting 3.01 on Windows NT. Each participant has an application, and the participants must decide on the models to be launched in order to start the conference with a synchronized view. When the conference leader initiates a set of events or commands, they are replicated automatically for each participant. Supported functions include the ability to: -- Provide a viewpoint -- Use a Telepointer to highlight the model being discussed -- Create cameras -- Add 2D and 3D annotations during the conference The leader controls the data viewed by the participants to ensure confidentiality. Publishing: Start and stop a report Add comments to a report Insert screen captures in a report Insert selected products (of the selected subassembly) in a report as a VRML link 2D Document Review (Drawing Comparison): Check changes between two revision levels of a 2D document. The documents can be repositioned to obtain the most accurate comparison. Analysis Solutions Generative Part Structural Analysis 1 (GP1) Support for Multiple Analysis Types: Contact modelization is improved. Analysis results now include minimum and maximum value locations and a fast and easy singularity analysis. Report generation in HTML format. CATIA Version 5 Integration: Analysis features can now be handled with standard copy-paste and drag-and-drop techniques. Axes can be defined implicitly using a compass. Knowledgeware Integration: Analysis features are now integrated with the knowledgeware products. Entry Point to the Line of Scalable Analysis Products: Only necessary data is updated after an analysis made in response to a design modification. Visualized results can be customized using standard SPM image editing. Infrastructure Solutions CATIA Object Manager 1 (CO1) Windows 2000 Ready: CATIA Version 5 runs on Windows 2000 Professional edition, combining the power of Windows NT with Windows 98 technology. Visualization: Axis support in.cgr files Isoparametric display (particularly effective in body-in-white) File Options: A Save all as choice on the File menu allows users to save all opened files under new names or existing names in one operation. Read-only files can be saved only under a different name. Raster bitmap images (.bmp,.jpeg,.tiff, and CATIA pictures) are now supported: -- Insert in a CATDrawing -- Open -- Edit CATDrawings can be saved as Adobe Acrobat.pdf files. Escape Management: Escape key usage is extended to CATIA command mechanisms for better productivity and compliance with current standards. Layers: Assign an object on a given layer and then filter the graphic view based on a list of features. Layers for all mechanical elements provides a powerful tool for enhancing design productivity. Mail System Integration on Windows NT: Direct access to mail systems from CATIA sessions. Users can send CATIA documents by with a simple SEND TO command. Specification-driven Options: Users can now define persistent queries to find specific elements of design tables. Queries can rely on external parameters and associatively adapt to changes to those parameters. Associative Design Specifications: Units precision, such as the number of decimal places and trailing zeros, can be specified. A new option is available for handling complex intelligent documents, such as a large number of parameters or formulas. This incremental option improves access performance by making only the required data visible. Components Catalog: Using a single window, the user can: -- Navigate through the chapters of the catalog -- Query to find an object -- Get a preview of any object in the catalog Administrative users can create catalogs with chapters, keywords, and descriptions adapted to specific needs of the catalog s users. General catalog commands are added. -- Cut -- Copy -- Paste

8 CATIA Team PDM 1 (TD1) Integration for Ease of Use: Properties Mapping: Users can automatically extract CATIA Version 5 properties and then store them in the database so they can be visualized when editing the profile and used in queries. Additionally, mapping automatically fills CATIA Version 5 properties from database attributes, such as the title block on a drawing. Print from Team PDM 1: Users can print any Version 5 document stored in the database without having to launch an interactive CATIA Version 5 session. Menu Editor: Users can modify standard menus. Options Windows: The explanations of available options are improved. Silent Batch Installation: Administrator can perform a centralized network installation. Revision Replacement Report: When performing a life-cycle operation on an assembly, subassemblies that are not in the latest revision are replaced. The report shows the state of each subassembly. Local Files Explorer: Users can manage files in their private directories. Life-Cycle Management: Intuitive way to perform life-cycle operations, such as checking-in and checking-out parts of an assembly. Secure Vault: Performance of the vault is improved. Queries: The search-by-example function includes a query-by-reference class. Users can find all objects that reference a particular class, such as all documents modified by a particular user. Business Templates: Ready-to-use business templates appropriate to such areas as mechanical, die casting, and plant layout. Each template is a complete definition of the data structure appropriate to the area. Templates can be used as-is or they can be customized to accommodate the requirements of a particular database. CATIA Generative Drafting 2 (GDR, 5691-GDR) Note: In previous releases, Generative Drafting 2 was included in all configurations and, therefore, could not be ordered as a sharable product. 2D Navigator: Drawing Analysis Assistant Identifies correspondence in multiple views and 3D. From the positioning of the mouth in a view, its positioning relative to other projected views can be determined, either by representing the line or the point. A selected edge in a generative view can be visualized by its corresponding face in the 3D part thanks to a 3D viewer. The selected edge can also be visualized in the other views generated from the part to which it belongs. The initial selected edge is highlighted in blue, and the corresponding edges appear in red. Dimension Generation: Release 4 extends Generative Drafting user-controlled product dimension generation capabilities with two new functions. Dimensions can be positioned automatically as they are generated. A rules-driven dimension positioning analyzer checks to see if dimensions are intersecting with the geometry or other dimensions to help the user produce a neat plan. Bill of Material (BOM) Generation: BOMs can be generated in any view, such as background and generated views. When positioning the BOM on a view, the user can choose the anchor point with the current toolbar command. CATIA Wireframe and Surface 2 (WSF, 5691-WSF) Associative line elements now include lines tangent to two entities on a plane. Points, lines, and planes can be created on the fly. When lofting surface features, isotopologic couplings can be managed along discontinuities, and closing points can be created on the fly. CATIA Sheetmetal Design 2 (SMD, 5691-SMD) Design flexibility is enhanced with multiscreen display of the sheetmetal part in which both the folded and unfolded representation of the part can be visualized concurrently. Photo Studio 2 contributes to enhanced project collaboration by enabling users to produce and share quality representations of their ideas. By creating a realistic simulation of the model, it can also validate the quality of the design throughout the product development process, improving decision making and shortening the overall design cycle. Photo Studio 2 features the same cross-platform consistent user interface employed by all CATIA Version 5 products to unleash user creativity with minimal training time. Functions include: Take a Photo : The user loads a model and clicks on an icon, the equivalent of point-and-click. The image can be stored as.rgb,.jpeg,.tif, or.bmp format. High-quality Rendering: Rendering capabilities are based on state-of-the-art ray tracing technology.
