2 Overview Task Reflection reflects tasks and details from other Gantt charts by displaying in your own Gantt chart tasks from other Gantt charts (The reflected tasks), and by updating certain data and changes concerning the reflected task. The Business Need Often, MS- Project users want to display in their own Gantt Chart a task from another Gantt Chart (The reflected task), and to be updated about certain data and changes concerning the reflected task. Linking between Gantt Charts in MS-Project software is limited in possibilities (does not reflect data such as: Work fields, Split task finish date etc.), and when using large Gantt charts and several links, work and performance is slowed. The Task Reflection add-on performs a full reflection without linking between Gantt Charts, that saves time when opening or saving Gantt Charts and enables working with large Gantt charts and hundreds of links. 2

3 The Solution Before using Task Reflection 1. Click on and choose the General settings: Database Details: Fill in your SQL server name (the server that holds Project Server databases) and the actual name of Project Server Draft database on your server. Important note: Every user that uses this feature must have reading permissions for Project server Draft database!!! 2. Before using Task Reflection you can choose which fields will be reflected: 3

4 Click on Now, click the Add button:, expend Addins and choose Task Reflection. Choose the fields that you wish to reflect: Pay Attention: Task Reflection is using Text27, Text28, Text29 and Marked task level custom fields. 4

5 In MS-Project 2010 In order to reflect a task in a Gantt Chart you should open both Gantt Charts (the reflected Gantt Chart may be in "Read only"), mark the task that you want to reflect. At the MS-Addons ribbon click. You will see the following message: 5

6 Then move to the other file and choose the task you want to reflect and click. You will see the following message: Now, clicking or will run reflection on the selected tasks or on all tasks. Deleting/canceling reflection will be done by choosing the tasks that the reflection is to be canceled and clicking. 6

7 After clicking Yes in the clear window you will receive a notification with the number of canceled reflections. The The button automatically opens the source Gantt. button automatically opens the target Gantt. You can see both target and source tasks in fields: Text28(source) and Text27 (targets). Marked field use to indicate whether task is a reflection task or a regular task. When source task become inactive the reflection tasks will turn to inactive too. You have the ability to use one source task for multiple reflection tasks at different Gantt. 12 Installation Procedure In order to use Task Reflection, the add-on should be installed on a station where Microsoft Project Professional Client is installed. To install the Add-On, the following steps should be performed: Press run: 12

14 Mark the "I Agree" button and press next: Press close: 14

15 Open MS-Project (if opened you should close it and re-open), you will see the MS-Addon tool box. 15
