Reduced Specifications for Non-Production
Context Challenge: Cost of Non-production hardware is too high Reason: Non-Production hardware especially for development, test systems, sandboxes, training systems, project landscapes etc. are the same specs as production grade hardware and this is driving the cost too high Solution: Lower the specs of non-production hardware in a phased manner 2013 SAP AG. All rights reserved. Confidential 9
Approach Production Systems: No change Customer would need to deploy certified configurations outlined in the product availability matrix Customers going down the route of Tailored data center will still have to use the certified configurations w/o local storage as compute nodes and a external storage that meets the prescribed KPI for the data volume & log volume QA System: The recommendation from SAP to customers is to keep this same as production so that customers can reproduce bugs and test performance prior to moving to production. All other non-production systems (Dev, Test, Training, Project landscapes etc.) Phase 1 Customers can run non-production workloads with half the number of cores (i.e. double the core to memory ratio). Customers can also run multiple non-production instances on the same system as long as the core to memory ratio mentioned above is maintained 2013 SAP AG. All rights reserved. Confidential 10
New capabilities for BW on runtime users
Changes to restrictions for BW Runtime Users What is ALLOWED in the Runtime License for BW 1. Use as a database for SAP BW 2. Customer s can use studio to a. Administer the instance b. Build Analytical & Calculation views (including writing complex SQL scripts) on top of the BW generated data and expose it to any BI front end tool c. Perform BW modeling delivered as a part of BW 7.4 release. This takes place through the BW application layer 3. Customers can Use Predictive Analysis Tool to access the Predictive Analysis libraries (PAL) delivered as a part of the engine and perform predictive analysis on top of BW generated data What is NOT ALLOWED in the Runtime license for BW 1. Creation of tables using the studio 2. Using the Runtime license of BW to create a custom datamarts. 3. Loading data directly into the tables created through BW at the level using SLT / Data Services or any other mechanism such as loading from flat files, through ODBC connection etc SAP AG. The Enterprise Storage system can connect to the SAP server either as NAS using shared file systems (like NFS) or using a SAN (for example, by Fibre Channel). CON: Customer needs to ensure the storage attached meets the specifications CON: Customer needs to install and support the storage used by themselves Note: At this point of time there is no change to the Storage KPI for Log Volume or Data Volume 2011 SAP AG.
