1 Product Withdrawal Notice OTISS and simulation engines - FAQ June 14, 2013 Reference documentation This FAQ should be read in conjunction with the associated OTISS and simulation engines withdrawal notice which provides further background information regarding product withdrawal timetable. What are the key dates for OTISS and withdrawal? OTISS simulation engine will be withdrawn from sale 30 th June 2015 with standard and extended product support available until 31 st December 2016 process simulation engine will be withdrawn from sale 31 st December 2016 with standard and extended product support available until 30 th June OTISS is an engine within UniSim Operations, are all the OTISS features being removed? Yes. All OTISS components will be withdrawn from UniSim Operations product. is an engine within UniSim Operations, are all the features being removed? No. Only the process modeling capabilities of are being withdrawn. These capabilities are replaced by UniSim Design. The control and PLC emulation components and any related DCS interfaces of will be retained. Will support for my system be available after the end of extended support? Yes. Contract support is available. The scope of contract support arrangements need to be agreed with Honeywell. Advanced planning for support requirements is advised since they are tailored to your particular requirements for an agreed duration and may require system upgrade to latest release as a pre-requisite. Honeywell support contracts are on an annual fee depending on the scope of the agreement. The primary purpose of contract support is to fill the gap between end of extended support and the commissioning of migrated models. I have a TRAINER OTS is that? No. TRAINER is the OTS platform available from Honeywell before 2000 using VMS operating system. TRAINER is no longer by Honeywell. Honeywell engineers are skilled at identifying re-usable components from TRAINER systems and redeploying them in UniSim Operations. Data from TRAINER models can be extracted from the configuration files for re-use within UniSim. The DCS interfaces and Instructor graphics can also be re-used within UniSim. I have a OTS is that? 2 I have a UniSim Operations OTS is that? Yes. Honeywell support current and current-1 releases of UniSim Operations. I want to upgrade my current OTS do I have to start from scratch? No. If your OTS does not contain any process modeling or OTISS components then an upgrade can be done in the usual way by contacting your Honeywell representative. If the OTS contains or OTISS components then a migration plan will be provided by Honeywell on particular requirements. Many components such as instructor graphics, DCS interfaces and PLC emulations of the existing system can be updated in the usual way. Process model components data can be extracted for reuse during project engineering. Is UniSim Operations a complete replacement for OTISS and? Yes. Alternative solutions are available to replace the functionality of OTISS and. I want to keep OTS running as it is but I am worried about hardware or operating system changes in the future what does Honeywell recommend? Honeywell recognize that some systems are running many years after delivery with little or no need for updates. However from time to time windows operating system needs to be updated or there is a hardware refresh. It may then not be possible to install the original software onto a new OS or hardware platform. In this case the recommended approach is to deploy a plan to virtualize the current systems to remove reliance on OS and hardware platform. Some customers have achieved this already using VMware. Honeywell can provide assistance to customers wishing to pursue this approach. I m still unsure what to do? If you are unsure on how the OTISS and withdrawals impact your situation then best advice is to contact Honeywell to organize a preliminary assessment audit. This could take place over the phone or be arranged through a short site visit. An initial report will be produced giving details of the options for going forward. The typical outcomes of such a report are: 1) No actions are immediately necessary 2) process model has been identified. Plan either to extend the life of the current installation through a contract support agreement or plan to migrate the process model to USD. Re-use existing solutions for instructor graphics, DCS interface and PLC emulations. 3) OTISS under UniSim operations has been identified as a process engine. Plan either to extend the life of the current installation through a contract support agreement or plan to migrate the process model to USD 4) Migrate system to virtual machine architecture to mitigate OS or hardware risks The table below gives an overview of the migration options available. How long will Honeywell commit to UniSim Operations? Honeywell has a long term commitment to the simulation business. has its roots with TRAINER that was introduced by SACDA in 1985 giving a total of 33yrs product life before final withdrawal of support in Honeywell acquired SACDA in 1992 as the first in a series of acquisitions that strengthen its commitment to Training Simulator business: 2004 AspenTech s HYSYS and VPS 2005 Petrocom CTCM 2007 NOVA PDMS from PAS Honeywell continues to invest in simulation technology guided by our customers through regular customer advisory boards. Honeywell seeks long term partnership with process Licensors to bring unique offerings to customers by combining process knowhow and simulation technology. The technology investment is aligned with Honeywell s five year Strategic Planning cycle. At Honeywell we believe that Operator Competency is an important long term strategic challenge for our customers. Our approach is to help customers respond by continuing to offer UniSim Operations through best in class project delivery and after market services.

4 A Letter from the Product Manager Following announcement of the product withdrawal plans customers have asked many questions. This FAQ is aimed at responding to the big questions that we are being asked. I would like to add my personal statement in responding to requests for information. In responding to this request I would like to emphasize that continuous evolution has long been the hallmark of Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS). We have a strong track record of supporting our customer s investment in our solutions. As technology improves, we strive to provide migration paths that protect our customer s prior investment while giving them the flexibility to upgrade at a time of their choosing. Honeywell s investment in Operator Training Simulators began with the acquisition of SACDA in The TRAINER product was introduced by SACDA in 1985 and became the market leading technology for OTS as Honeywell expanded the SACDA business globally. In 2000, the power of PC computing provided the opportunity to migrate the VMS TRAINER into the MS Windows software. Further investment followed in 2005 when Honeywell completed the acquisition of the Aspen OTS business which included the OTISS modeling technology and the intellectual property of HYSYS. In 2005, these technologies where integrated into the UniSim Operations simulation platform including UniSim Design. UniSim platform architecture with UniSim Design provides a robust flexible deployment solution that will be the basis of OTS software for Honeywell for at least the next 10 years. The UniSim platform is likely to be the software architecture for OTS solutions for the next 20 years. It is flexible to respond to potential changes in underlying computing architecture like datacenter and cloud computing. Advanced Solutions is a key Line of Business within HPS. The Advanced Solutions LOB provides advanced software products and services that support customers with solutions for Process and Business performance excellence. UniSim Design and UniSim Operations fall under the Process Performance product line. UniSim Design and UniSim Operations use the same technology platform and are a key part of the Advanced Solutions business for Honeywell. Today, Honeywell is the world s #1 provider of training simulation solutions for the process industry. There are currently close to 1000 installations of UniSim Operations software world-wide. Honeywell seeks to maintain this position through innovative product development and partnership with customers. We hold regular user customer advisory board meetings and face to face events at which we encourage our customers to help us shape the future direction of UniSim Operations. In addition, we partner with process licensors to provide unique value to end users. Today, UniSim is a significant part of Honeywell s Advanced Solutions business with a significant proportion of the ongoing investment in the Advanced Solutions portfolio dedicated towards UniSim Operations. Investment and product life cycle planning is managed through the Advanced Solutions business planning process which is on a 5 year strategic plan that is approved, governed and monitored by Honeywell leadership. The objective of the strategic plan is to identify the products and services that will provide value to our customers over the time horizon of the plan and to ensure that Advanced Solutions has appropriate business level and functional team tactical plans in place to continue to offer and maintain those products and services that are in the best interest of customers and Honeywell. Honeywell s unsurpassed 30+ year track record in Advanced Solutions product development, software support and maintenance demonstrate a historical and ongoing strategic commitment to deliver long term value for customers in the Operator Competency markets that are served. The current release of UniSim Operations is R410. The next release is R430 which is planned for Q Planning for the following release R440 is in progress with a tentative release date of Q with support for R440 extending until Q New releases are currently provided on an 18 month cycle, each new release provides more features and benefits for our customers. Models produced with UniSim Operations and UniSim Design at one release can be migrated to later release of UniSim Operations with minimum effort. This requirement is enshrined in our product development methodology.

5 In summary, Honeywell Advanced Solutions is committed to the long term development and support of UniSim Operations technology. Operator Competency provision will be an increasingly important strategic challenge for our customers in the decades ahead. Advanced Solutions strategy is to align with this long term need by continuing to serve our customers with excellent solutions through innovative product development, best in class project delivery and after market services.
