Recently, the international manufacturer of filling and packaging equipment KHS turned to COPA-DATA for their zenon IIoT solution built on Microsoft Azure to underline its ability to innovate. The solution enables KHS s customers within the food & beverage industry to streamline their processes, user experience, and production insights on the factory floor or even across multiple factory floors at different sites. 3 IoT and Machine Learning drive new business models Recently named 2017 Microsoft IoT Partner of the Year, COPA-DATA has evolved its own business model to create differentiated offerings that can deliver real business impact. The zenon-based solution used at KHS originated as an offering that extracts and sends machine data to servers on-premises for retroactive diagnostics. However, as cloud technology emerged, COPA-DATA understood that building solutions to gather and analyze this data across distributed operations environments was critical to maintaining its leadership position. Its solution now collects data from machine sensors and devices, visualizes and analyzes it in the Microsoft Cloud, and sends it back to the local machine or further to mobile devices in real time. The main business objectives for machine builders are obviously to keep uptime, reduce machine breakdowns and failures, and to learn from the machines in operation. We use Azure Machine Learning algorithms to identify error patterns within the machine, that can alert an operator at the customer site in advance, to do some maintenance work, says Johannes Petrowisch, COPA-DATA s Global Partner and Business Development Manager. COPA-DATA now sees its biggest business opportunity in the potential to upsell existing customers on company-wide solutions, including, among others, real-time benchmarking and reporting on production efficiency and cost savings from energy data management. By powering zenon with Microsoft Azure and the capabilities of Azure IoT and Machine Learning, COPA-DATA has transformed its own business, and enabled companies like KHS to create differentiated products and offerings for its customers. We use the Microsoft IoT Hub technology to bring the data into the cloud. Once we have it in the cloud, we can use Azure Machine Learning and Azure Stream Analytics to convert this data into valuable information. 4 zenon Cloud solution leverages potential for COPA-DATA s partners COPA-DATA has been working with Microsoft engineering and marketing to develop Azure-based Industrial IoT (IIoT) solutions and bring them to market in more than 30 countries.
