Details: I am not the first year in doing the pipe stress analysis, but functionality of software that we used before, is no longer enough. The old software we used has a number of problems, which increases the time and job complexity. The one of such problems is the complexity of expansion joints modeling. For example, in the properties of the flexible joint are different from the data needed for the old software. This leads to the unnecessary additional manual calculations. Furthermore, the material database has not enough material properties, in some cases we have to add them manually. For these reasons, now my colleagues and I use in our work the START Prof software. We figured out that the work with START Prof is not only convenient, but also very interesting; we have acquired a new skills and knowledge. Entering the input data into the START Prof does not cause any difficulties, everything is intuitive. Results of analysis are very evident. START Prof simplifies the stress analysis and selection of the optimal design of pipelines. In addition, it has a number of options that extend the functionality, solving a lot of other issues, increasing productivity and reducing the number of errors, which ultimately improves the design quality. The program is easy to learn and use it has a friendly interface. The results of pipe stress analysis are very qualitative. With each new version the START Prof is improved. For example, in the latest version 4.60 the zoom and pan interface similar to AutoCAD was added. From many new version improved features we like equipment nozzle flexibility modeling and creation the list of all elements. Thus we can say that the START Prof software allows us to effectively meet the challenges of modeling and stress analysis of process pipelines. Details: I use START Prof for about 20 years from I can definitely say that by doing stress analysis in this software, you can sleep free of worry. Although there were some problems as with any software when transition from mainframe computer to MS DOS on PCs, and then from MS DOS to Windows. Moreover, START Prof is continously updated. A new functionality, additional features, database refreshment are appeared with each new version. START Prof has a very user-friendly interface. The program is very easy to learn and use, thus our new engineers have enough skills to begin the work with START Prof without any additional assistance. More complex engineering issues are solved together with the START Prof developers through technical support and training courses. I haven t performed investigations to determine the payback period of START Prof using, but it should be clear that solving problems with the piping systems at the design stage significantly reduces the cost of fixing errors on construction stage. Almost all of our customers use the START Prof software too, so we can easily transfer the START Prof data files both ways for verification Detail: ZAO MosFlowline is the biggest and most experienced manufacture of pipes with industrial insulation made of foamed polyurethane in Russia and CIS countries. Since 1994 more than 10 million meters of pipelines and more than 100,000 fittings and ball valves polyurethane foam isolated has been produced. ZAO MosFlowline produces fully completed pipe systems with full range of diameters of 32 to 1420 mm on a steel pipe (with jackets diameters from 125 to 1600 mm) in polyurethane. The plant production capacity is 600 km of pre-insulated piping systems of different diameters per year. Over 6000 Russian companies, of which more than 500 customers are regulars, buy our pipes for building of heating networks and pipelines for transporting oil across Russia from Kaliningrad to Sakhalin. We have regular shipments of our products in the Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and other countries. We also perform the stress analysis of the pipelines to make refinement of the design documentation for compiling specifications and sometimes we perform the full scope of pipeline design. The manual methods of buried pipeline stress analysis are most complex and inconvenient. For this reason we actively use the START Prof software for about 15 years. Now we have 8 START Prof licenses. We like the high convenience of modeling above-ground and especially buried pipelines, with considering flexibility of polyurethane foam insulation. Also The START Prof software has an extremely simple user interface, without excessive options and settings and we see that program developers are continuously working on its further improvement. START Prof user interface is so friendly that not only stress analysis professionals can use it, but also any ordinary piping designer has the ability to perform the stress analysis. The program follows selected standard automatically including defining loads combinations necessary to calculate etc. So most of analysis tasks can be done in piping layout departments by piping designers, and only on really complex cases it is necessary to involve stress analysis experts. That s why we use 8 START Prof licenses simultaneously. START Prof developers always provide the high quality technical support and training. They are also the authors of the several Russian pipe stress analysis standards including heating network standard RD (2001), STO (2009) and GOST R (2013) so we can be sure in the START Prof analysis results.
