This standard specifies the requirements for and lists wires and cables electrical, dual extruded insulation, 135 C tin plated and silver-plated conductors for Ministry of Defence use. Tables 1A to 1E inclusive contain the range of thick wall insulation wires and cables. Tables 1F and 1G contain the range of thin wall insulation wires and cables. b. This standard has been produced on behalf of the Standardization Advisory Group (SAG) by the Defence Airborne Cables Standardization Coittee (DACSC). c. This standard has been agreed by the authorities concerned with its use and is intended to be used whenever relevant in all future designs, contracts, orders etc. and whenever practicable by amendment to those already in existence. If any difficulty arises which prevents application of the Defence Standard, the Directorate of Standardization (DStan) shall be informed so that a remedy may be sought. d. Any enquiries regarding this standard in relation to an invitation to tender or a contract in which it is incorporated are to be addressed to the responsible technical or supervising authority named in the invitation to tender or contract. e. Compliance with this Defence Standard shall not in itself relieve any person from any legal obligations imposed upon them. f. This standard has been devised solely for the use of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and its contractors in the execution of contracts for the MOD. To the extent permitted by law, the MOD hereby excludes all liability whatsoever and howsoever arising (including, but without limitation, liability resulting from negligence) for any loss or damage however caused when the standard is used for any other purpose. 3
6 TEXT Standards for Defence Wires, Cords and Cables, Electrical, Metric Units Part 26: Wires and Cables Electrical, Dual Extruded Insulation Type Olefin/vinylidene -Fluoride and Screened and Jacketed SECTION 1. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 0 INTRODUCTION This standard specifies the requirements for wires and cables insulated with cross-linked polyolefin and cross-linked polyvinylidene fluoride and, where applicable, jacketed with cross-linked polyvinylidene fluoride. 1 SCOPE 1.1 This standard specifies requirements for airframe wires and cables in temperature category 135 C, with medium and thin wall insulation. This insulation system has been tested for use in aerospace applications using 115 volts (phase to neutral), 400 hertz ac and 28 volts dc. Verification of the suitability of this product for use in other electrical system configuration levels is the responsibility of the user. 1.2 These wires and cables are suitable for fixed wiring at temperatures from 135 C maximum down to minus 75 C but are not suitable for severe flexing at temperatures below minus 40 C. 1.3 These wires and cables do not support combustion and will withstand contamination by ester based lubricants and by ester based hydraulic fluids. 1.4 The thick wall insulated wires and cables, types 2 and 3, are normally available where dimensional replacements for those wires and cables listed in BS 2G 221 are required for wiring without further protection. 1.5 The thin wall insulated wires and cables, types 8 and 9, are intended for internal wiring of equipment. 4
7 SECTION 1. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 2 WARNING The Ministry of Defence (MOD), like its contractors, is subject to both United Kingdom and European laws regarding Health and Safety at Work, without exemption. All Defence Standards either directly or indirectly invoke the use of processes and procedures that could be injurious to health if adequate precautions are not taken. Defence Standards or their use in no way absolves users from complying with statutory and legal requirements relating to Health and Safety at Work. 3 RELATED DOCUMENTS 3.1 The publications shown below are referred to in the text of this standard.
