7 Direct Bury Application Direct Bury Application requires either by trenching or HDD method. With all the configuration of Direct Bury Application, the microduct can be directly deployed on the ground surface without any additional ducting pipe needed. Open trenching method is the most common excavation for telecommunication cables and pipes, it involves excavating the ground, laying the duct then backfilling either by stone or sand. In mini trenching, the mechanical trenchers cut slots 150 to 400mm deep and 70 to 150mm wide using a Tungsten Carbide. Micro Trenching,which is the smallest trenching method that cuts slots between 70 to 300mm deep and 10 to 30mm wide. Besides the trenching method, direct burial can also be applied through HDD method. HDD is a steerable trenchless method by using a surface-launched drilling rig, with minimal impact on the surrounding area. It is suitable for a variety of soil conditions and work including road, landscape and river crossing. 36 CASE STUDY - The Infrastructure Sharing The Municipality Led an Open Access Network Pilot Project Ring Dago H3, Indonesia (March-May 2015) Case Study I. Background The Bandung city mayor declared to stop the fiber optic infrastructure deployment since there were a lot of issues and sprawling network constructions from the several operators. Moreover, the municipality did not allow random excavation anymore, mainly due to severe traffic jam. Thus, the infrastructure needed to be shared by the operators and construction had to be done in a short time. II. Results and Conclusion Trenching method with microduct was the best solution to minimize traffic disruption. Without additional excavation, the operators were able to use the deployed microduct. Bandwidth expansion required an easy and simple process for the maintenance system. It enabled operators to be able to simply add optical fiber by using air blowing system. As a result, operators could save CAPEX/OPEX. TOC was reduced compared to using a conventional method. As a result, operator s ROI reached faster. Because the city council did not allow an overhead infrastructure, all aerial networks were replaced underground using microduct, As a result, an overall aesthetic view of the city had improved. 7 way (7 tubes) was designed for sharing the duct, which is called Common Duct. 2 tubes were for telecommunication providers and one was for the city. The remaining 4 tubes were reserved for the future use.

37 CASE STUDY - Quick Deployment Product Fast Deployment for Mobile Tower connection Improvement and expansion of telecom infrastructure in Myanmar I. Background The new mobile operators needed to build the backhaul connection in a very short period of time. The expansion of its coverage was essential to increase the market share in this emerging market. In addition, operators wanted to use a small core of fiber in the initial stage with a stable network. The conventional duct system tends to be less cost effective since it uses bigger core of the cable and prevents additional cable installation in the future. In conclusion, network providers were advised to deploy the fiber in a responsive manner and to consider a better solution for the future expansion. II. Since every operators were fully leveraged, microduct solution provided a cost effective result to increase ARPU for the leasing service provider. Because maintenances and repairs were easily done without the trench being opened, OPEX for the operators decreased Network providers can manage their networks easily since the fiber/ cable was shared with individual inner tube compare to conventional case which its fiber core is shared. It s suitable for mobile backhaul connection since Tower provider or Network Provider can easily set up cost effective infrastructure with expandable network.(by blowing empty tube when customer request service)

38 CASE STUDY - The Ducted System Fiber Pathway Installation Using Ducted System Business Park New Development Costa Rica (Yr. 2015) Case Study I. Background The Business park was just 60mins away from the ports(air/sea) in Costa Rica. For building a new business complex, an optimized fiber pathway was a MUST. The developer had already installed a 4 es duct with four 1.25 sub-ducts (OD 31mm). In order to maximize the capacity of cable, microduct solution was used. II. Product Used Microduct Configuration 23.3mm 15.1mm Conventional duct One cable Microduct 12 way Install HS - 5/3.5mm 12 way Install HS - 5/3.5mm 4 way Traditional construction to install only one cable on 1 sub duct. Air Blown Fiber ABF 8 core Coupler & End Cap III. Results and Conclusion Central Office The microduct solution were chosen due to its ability to use an existing duck system without having to open the trench ; thus saving the overall costs. Because KNET had more than one option for the microduct configuration, it was possible to choose 12 way for the backbone and 4 way for the drop KNet s various configurations enabled customers to choose the right tube size upon the fiber size. The OD of 8 core is 2.0 mm which fits in smaller size of tube 5/3.5mm.

39 CASE STUDY - Nationwide Microduct Infrastructure Nationwide Microduct Network Ultra Fast Broadband Project in New Zealand I. Background The New Zealand government wanted to boost the internet industry by upgrading the passive network. The local service provider has the main obstacle to provide the high speed internet service with copper. The New Zealand government plans and designs with Microduct Network to adopt any ISP against ILEC. Deploying the whole passive infrastructure without any touch from ISP company is a critical factor to succeed in this project. II. Used products DB-Multi TWD 7/3.5mm 24+ DB HS 12/10mm 7 way LSZH DI Ruggedized Microduct III. Results and Conclusion This project has been designed with the microduct from the backbone area to the drop. To complete the project, the owner of the project had to find the manufacturer who could supply the whole product portfolio. KNET was one of the very few suppliers having capabilities to satisfy the demands for providing the wide range of the configuration. Various types of customized Microducts to meet subscribers environment have been suggested and deployed. Some of the types of customized microducts products : ** The ruggedized microduct : The robust product for the drop area to protect the damage from the gardening job. ** DB HS - Direct Bury High Strength product. With the benefit of high crush resistance, this product is used for the backbone network for long run endurance. ** LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) : The fire retardant product has been used for the indoor application ** DI product (Direct Install) - The cost saving from DI product ( Direct Install) - The cost for opening new trenching saved from DI product for the existing duct system.

40 CASE STUDY - MDU Solution FTTH Cabling concept in MDU Korea Gimpo Jayeon & Hill State MDU, Korea Case Study I. Background The new residential building developer was required to meet the government compliance called Korea Emblem System (In-building wiring system) This program was created to guarantee bandwidth for each residents of the building. Moreover, the residents had the rights to choose their own operators. Therefore, it was challenging for the developer to establish the infrastructure and to satisfy the multiple networks provider needs. The FTTH MDU solution had to be designed with the capability to make each providers building their own network and to embrace IBS (Intelligent Building System) solution for their passive network. II. Designed Products and Drawings DI AL 7/3.5mm 7 way ABF 4 Core Blowing Machine- Micro Jet Area : 72, 727 sq km No. of Buildings : 14 buildings, stories Total Households : 1, 382 apartments III. Results and Conclusion KNET s 7 way Direct Install configuration could make the developer satisfy 3 BSPs (Broadband Service Providers) for their own segmented pathway. (more than CC TV surveillance) Additionally, they had extra three pathway for the future demands. (3+1+3) The residents were able to choose the service from their favorite providers. From the developer s side, there was no additional investment needed later in the expansion, which was beyond the cost of the initial microduct installation The extra tube for the future expansion made it possible for building IBS System in a timely manner Achieving an Emblem grade level compliance increased the value of the real estates and benefitted owner of the building. KNET s microduct products had the maximum capacity with small spaces in IDF which could make it possible to have the efficient applicable MDF, IDF and vertical conduit.

Quality of life is improved by Smart- Traffic, Smart-Home(convenient city), Smart- Security, Smart-Facility Management(safe city), Smart-Environment(clean city), and Smart-Health Care(healthy city). III. Results and Conclusion The LH Construction company wanted a provision of Smart-City application Microduct was a perfect solution perfect for meeting LH requirements. The contractor needed a high resistance duct product for the quick and easy deployment for finishing their job in a short of period time. KNET s suggested microduct(db HS) received a good response from the contractor onsite Smart-City application developed continuously so the future expansion was essential. Thus, microduct was ideal for Smart-City passive infrastructure. Various applications were set up in per section bases. For example, CCTV connection from A to B zone had no issue as installer could blow any sections using microduct. **LH Construction is the government agent which requires the networks to be neutral. 42 CASE STUDY - The efficient Conduit Utilization Utilizing Power Conduit by Deploying Microduct Fiber Infrastructure Sejeong-City 1-1,2 Section fiber installation, Korea Case Study I. Background The Utility compay who provides a wide range of energy-related products and services to its customers had the mission to have their own telecommunication network to save the cost of leasing the line from the telecommunication provider. The company was requested to utilize their existing power conduit for the telecommunication network. Their final goal was to make the stable operating network power by building their own fiber communication network. II. Designed Products and Drawings DI AL 12/10mm 2 way ABC 24 Core Blowing Machine- MiniJet III. Results and Conclusion With the multiple tubes of microduct, the power company used from the less existing conduit for maximum fiber network capability and ended up increasing the efficiency of the existing power conduit usage in terms of cost and time. No additional trenching and fast blowing installation (50~ 60 meter/m meant saving the labor cost for the civil work and the cable installation. The duration of construction was reduced for more than 70%. With blowing method, chances of the cable damage was drastically reduced. Without the need for trenching, the construction was done without causing major traffic disruption In this experience of using their own conduit system, the utility company has responded very quickly to their communication network expansion demands.
