Plumbing and Services Locate and place plumbing risers and all other slab services. - Water, Electric, Gas, etc..
Final Leveling Re-level after plumber to within ¼ of desired elevation under edge elements and within ½ everywhere else. Compaction is not required again.
Step 3 Install EPS Formwork
Begin Placing a Pre-Cut Corner All 90 degree corners come already coped. All other angles will need to be cut on site.
Finished Corner Lock the corners together by screwing through overlapped 1 5/8 metal cap.
Beginning Edge Element Placement Place edge elements end to end and cap with the metal channel provided Use ¾ screws to lock channels together.
Staggered Joints Stagger the joints of the metal caps with those of the edge elements.
45 Degree Corner Mark a 90 degree line on the bottom of an edge element at the point of the 45 degree corner and cut a triangular piece out as shown 7 ½ each side of center.
4 Pipe Edge Element Installation Tie bottom of edge elements together by simultaneously installing two courses of the 3 4 x 8 EPS sheets and overlapping onto the edge element.
2 Pipe Edge Element Installation Set the bottom layer of 3 EPS 4 x 8 sheets up to the edge elements Place the second layer of 3 EPS as per the plans provided so that the joints are offset to the lower level of EPS.
Windy Weather In windy weather the panels can be secured with adhesive foam or 6 nails. In addition other precautions may need to be taken to prevent wind damage.
Form Support with Stone 5-6 of stone banked up on the outside of the edge element is all that is needed to support the edge.
Slab Penetrations All services must be in place before the insulation is installed. Plumbing for drains is best formed around with insulation or a small wood form stop for easy access later.
Slab Penetrations Traps require larger openings Unique penetrations require special attention

Drop Down Slab Dedicated heater box for ultimate zone separation between house and garage
Alternate Drop Down Slab with Form Support The heating system may run into the garage and a temporary form support is put in place. Vertical support dowels are removed as soon as concrete has started to firm up and the holes are patched.
Point Loads up to 100,000 lbs. Point loads up to 100,000 lbs can be accommodated by removing 1 layer of EPS at the required area and inserting a bottom grid of rebar. This will be indicated on the drawings where required
Special Applications This foundation for an agricultural Digester replaced a design that called for an 12 x 8 wide footing and 4 concrete floor. It was buried 5 below grade.
Weigh Down Box Ensure box is weighted down to prevent floating. Tape lid to box after inspection is complete.
Pre-Pour Inspection Complete the Pre- Pour inspection documents. NOTE: This can only be performed by a trained Legalett inspector.
Pre Pour Checklist
Step 8 Place and Finish Concrete
Concrete Placement Place concrete using a pencil vibrator around areas of congestion, heater boxes and doorway cutouts. Concrete must be vibrated to ensure full consolidation.
Pumping an 8,000 sq.ft Home Pumping is always recommended unless the slab is small enough to use a conveyor
Finishing Concrete Leveling the surface with a vibrating screed helps in the consolidation.
Connection Dowels/Anchor Bolts Install rebar dowels as per ICF manufacturers specs around the slab perimeter or 8 anchor bolts for wood framing. Pre plan to ensure anchor bolts do not line up with stud positioning or door ways.
Post Concrete Placement Keep top of slab moist for 3 days to minimize shrinkage cracking. This can be done by wetting the slab and tarping or covering with 6 mil poly.
Step 9 Preparing for Permanent Heater Installation
Vacuum Out the Piping Vacuum any water or debris from the pipes before installing the Legalett Construction Heater.
Install the Construction Heater A 230V 30A breaker should be installed in the hydro panel with a dryer plug terminal end (construction heaters with blue fans). Silver-fan construction heaters can either plug into the 3000 series box or a dryer plug. Follow instructions with heater for covering the heater with the box provided to maximize the heating of the slab. Rotation is required for 4000 series heaters
Heating the Slab A Legalett construction heater must be run for 2 weeks after the building is closed in and before the permanent heaters are installed. The slab temperature must reach 27 C before installing the permanent heater.
Slab Moisture Test Prior to Installation of insert & floor coverings: Once the surface temperature reaches 27 C and the heater has been run for 2 weeks, tape the supplied polyethylene sheet to slab surface for a minimum of 48 hours. No condensation should be present. If condensation is detected, run construction heater for one week and repeat test.
Drying The Slab Overall reduction in the moisture content of the slab is required to prepare the surface for floor covering adhesives and to prevent moisture damage to the permanent heaters.
Proving Out Hot Water Supply Step 1 Ensure a hot water/glycol supply is installed and operating
Proving Out Hot Water Supply Flush out plumbing system: Close the isolation valve at the pump. Then open the flush valve next to pump, and run water through the piping until all debris and air have been flushed out of the lines. Close flush valve, open isolation valve at pump, bleed and energize pump until pump outlet piping is hot.
Thermostat Wiring Step 1 Run 3 conductor wiring from box to each thermostat
Pre Start-Up Checklist Pre Start up Checklist must be completed by a trained Legalett installer.

Floor Coverings R-values associated with Carpet and ¾ wood flooring will increase the system operating temperature, decreasing efficiency, costing more to run the system. Try to use ceramics or 3/8 snap lock floorings if possible.
Air Conditioning A High Velocity fan-coil Air Conditioning system with an ERV are one way to provide Air Conditioning and ventilation. Smaller buildings may use a through wall system. Other systems work as well
There is A Simpler Way To Heat Unlike other more complex Radiant Systems, Legalett uses 1 pump and localized heat sources while still providing a zoned heating environment. vs
There is A Simpler Way To Heat Legalett is also a more balanced system because we insulate each pipe run to maximize efficient use of all the heat generated.
