1 UNDERGROUND ELECTRICAL PART 1 GENERAL 1.1 SECTION INCLUDES: A. The work specified in this section consists of furnishing and installing underground utilities using the method of installation commonly referred to as directional boring. This work shall include all supervision, services, equipment, materials, labor, area restoration, environmental protection and incidentals for the complete and functional installation of the directional bore duct as shown in the Contract Documents. A #2 AWG solid copper counterpoise conductor shall be installed with and external to the directional bore duct. Quantity of counterpoise shall be per the details. #2 AWG solid copper counterpoise shall be paid for by the linear foot in accordance with Item L RELATED DOCUMENTS AND SECTIONS: A. Item L-110; Airport Underground Electrical Duct Banks and Conduits. B. Section 555; Directional Bore - FDOT Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction. 1.3 SUBMITTALS: A. Work Plan: Prior to beginning work, the Contractor shall submit to the Engineer a general work plan outlining the procedure and schedule to be used to execute the work task. Plan shall document the thoughtful planning required to successfully complete the work. B. Demonstration of compliance with Item L-110 and FDOT Section 555. C. Equipment: Contractor shall submit specifications on directional drilling equipment to be used in the work to ensure that the equipment will be adequate to complete the project. D. Material: Specifications on material to be used shall be submitted to Engineer. Material shall include the pipe, conduit, fittings, splicing/coupling method, means of transition from HDPE to PVC and any other item, which is to be an installed component of the project. L-110S

2 1.4 WARRANTY: A. All equipment and materials furnished and installed under this section shall be guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of twelve (12) months from final acceptance by the Owner. The defective materials and/or equipment shall be repaired or replaced, at the Owner's discretion, with no additional cost to the Owner. PART 2 EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS 2.1 GENERAL: A. The directional drilling equipment shall consist of a directional drilling rig of sufficient capacity to perform the bore and pullback the pipe, a drilling fluid mixing and delivery system of sufficient capacity to successfully complete the crossing, a guidance system to accurately guide boring operations and trained and competent personnel to operate the system. All equipment shall be in good, safe operating condition with sufficient supplies, materials and spare parts on hand to maintain the system in good working order for the duration of the project. 2.2 GUIDANCE SYSTEM: A. The guidance system shall be of a proven type and shall be setup and operated by personnel trained and experienced with this system. The Operator shall be aware of any magnetic anomalies and shall consider such influences in the operation of the guidance system if using a magnetic system. B. The locating and tracking system must provide information on: 1. Clock and pitch information. 2. Depth. 3. Transmitter temperature. 4. Battery status. 5. Position (X,Y). 6. Azimuth, where direct overhead readings (walkover) are not possible (i.e. subaqueous or limited access transportation facility). 7. Ensure proper calibration of all equipment before commencing directional drilling operation. C. Take and record alignment readings or plot points such that elevations on top of and offset dimensions from the center of the product to a permanent fixed feature are provided. Such permanent fixed feature must have prior approval of the Engineer. Provide elevations and dimensions at all bore alignment corrections (vertical and horizontal) with a maximum distance of 5 feet between points. Provide additional points when requested by the Engineer. Provide a L-110S

3 2.3 CONDUIT/DUCT: sufficient number of elevations and offset distances to accurately plot the vertical and horizontal alignment of the installed product. A. The directional bore conduit/duct shall be Carlon Electrical UL Listed Schedule 80 minimum standard dimensional ratio (SDR) 11, suitable for placement with directional boring under pavement or accepted equivalent. All duct connections shall be made by electrofusion coupling splicing, 8 minimum length Morris Compression coupling, or accepted equivalent. B. Splices and couplings shall be permitted only where connection to conventionally installed ducts or manholes are required. C. The HDPE duct shall be properly reamed prior to assembly. 2.4 CONCRETE: A. Concrete shall be P-610 or FDOT Class II concrete with 1 inch maximum size coarse aggregate (FDOT #57 stone) with a minimum 28 day compressive strength of 3,400 PSI or equivalent. Where reinforced duct banks are specified, reinforcing steel shall conform to ASTM A 615 Grade 60. Concrete and reinforcing steel are incidental to the installation/construction of which they are a component part. B. High early strength P-610 concrete will be required for use with ducts, conduits, base cans and other work as directed by the Engineer, in existing operational areas and within the safety areas of operational pavement to comply with the project phasing and scheduling requirements and where the pavement is required to open to aircraft at the end of the designated work period. The extra cost for the high early strength P-610 concrete shall be considered incidental to the respective installation/construction of which it is a component part. 2.5 COPPER COUNTERPOISE WIRE A. The 2 AWG solid copper counterpoise wire shall comply with Item L-108. The 2 AWG solid copper counterpoise wire shall be installed with and externally to the directionally bored duct. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 GENERAL: A. The Engineer shall be notified 48 hours in advance of starting work. The Directional Bore shall not begin until the Engineer is present at the job site and agrees that proper preparations for the operation have been made. The L-110S

4 Engineer s approval for beginning the installation shall in no way relieve the Contractor of the ultimate responsibility for the satisfactory completion of the work as authorized under the Contract. 3.2 BORING PATH REPORT: A. Furnish a bore path report to the Engineer within seven days of the completion of each bore path. Include the following in the report: 1. Location of project and financial project number including the permit number when assigned. 2. Name of person collecting data, including title, position and company name. 3. Investigation site location (Contract plans station number or reference to a permanent structure within the project right-of-way). 4. Identification of the detection method used. 5. Elevations and offset dimensions as required in B. Provide as-built plans to the Engineer in accordance with FDOT SPLICING, COUPLING AND TERMINATION: A. The HDPE duct shall relax for 48 hours after installation prior to splicing, coupling or termination. B. Only Engineer accepted methods shall be used to splice, couple or terminate the HDPE or PVC duct. C. All splicing, coupling and termination of HDPE or PVC ducts shall be performed and completed in strict accordance with the manufacturer s instructions and recommendations. PART 4 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT 4.1 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT: A. The items described in this item are incidental to other items and shall not be measured for payment. L-110S

5 PART 5 BASIS OF PAYMENT 5.1 BASIS OF PAYMENT: A. No direct payment shall be made for the work described in this item. All directional bore costs shall be considered incidental to the respective L-108 or L- 110 specification items. END OF L-110S
