WATER DISTRUBUTION SYSTEMS All Water Distribution valves and appurtenances shall conform to requirements of AWWA C800 with the exception that any brass part of a fitting or coupling or valve in contact with potable water shall be made of copper alloy CDA No. C89520 or a no-lead brass complying with ASTM B30 and B584. This no-lead brass alloy shall contain no more than one-fourth of one-percent (0.25% or less) total lead content by weight.
2 An ANSI accredited test lab per ANSI/NSF 61, Drinking Water Components-Health Effects 8, shall be used to certify the lead content for all no-lead brass fittings and valves. Proof of certification is required A.3 Ductile-Iron (DI) Pipe All brass fittings and couplings and valves shall have the manufacturers name or trademark integrally stamped or cast onto the fitting. Another marking identifying the item as a no-lead brass alloy shall be cast or stamped as well. 3. DI pipe shall be Class 52 with a minimum pressure classification indicated in the Contract Documents.. Thickness design shall meet requirements of ANSI/AWWA C150/A For burial depths exceeding those allowed by the class, pipe and fittings of sufficient wall thickness shall be provided. The manufacturer s mark, country where cast, year the pipe was produced, and the letters DI or Ductile Iron shall be cast or stamped on the pipe F.1 Valves 1. Gate Valves a. Non-rising stem (NRS) gate valves 3-inches and larger shall meet requirements of ANSI/AWWA C509. Valves shall be rated for at least 200 psi working pressure in sizes 3- through-12-inches and for at least 150 psi working pressure in sizes larger than 12- inches or pressure rating specified for adjacent piping, whichever is greater. Reduced wall valves shall meet requirements of ANSI/AWWA C515. Valve ends shall be compatible with piping systems in which valves are installed and restraint system to be used. Valves shall have O-ring seals. Valves to be used in the water system shall open clockwise. b. Tapping Valves shall meet requirements of gate valves specified above except that seat opening shall be larger than nominal size and valve outlet and shall have mechanical joint F.2 Ball Valves 2. Ball Valves
3 F.3 Butterfly Valves a. Shall be bronze with stainless steel handles as manufactured by McDonald Corp., American Valve, Swagelok, or Owner-approved equal. 3. Butterfly Valves a. Shall be used on water main piping 16-inches in diameter and larger unless otherwise specified. Butterfly valves shall meet requirements of ANSI/AWWA C504. Valves shall be for the pressure class 150B. Wafertype valves shall not be used underground. Valve bodies shall be constructed of close grain, high tensile strength ductile iron and coated inside and out with standard bitumastic coating for water main. Valve body ends shall conform to the requirements of connecting pipe and restraint system to be used. The shaft shall have a minimum diameter specified for the size and class and restraint system to be used. The shaft shall have a minimum diameter specified for the size and class valve in table 3 of AWWA C504. Discs shall be constructed of corrosion resistant alloy cast iron. Seats shall be natural or approved synthetic rubber of the molded-type, secured for complete immobility under all operating conditions. Shaft bearing shall be selflubricating sleeve type. Valves larger than 20- inch diameter shall have an adjustable twoway thrust bearing to keep the valve disc centered regardless of the valve position. Valves shall be Mueller Corporation Lineseal 111 and XP, Lineseal 150 A and B, 200B and 250, Val-Matic rubber seated, M&H Valve Company (Kennedy), Pratt or Ownerapproved equal. b. Valve operators shall be side-mounted and meet requirements of ANSI/AWWA C504, pressure class 150B and be capable of seating and unseating the discs against the full design pressure and velocity and unless otherwise noted and open clockwise. Exterior valves for buried service shall have buried service gear actuated, permanently lubricated operators
4 with 2-inch nut and open clockwise. Valve operators shall be suitable for a minimum of 10,000 cycles of operation at its rated torque. Valve operators shall be designed such that a maximum torque of 80 foot/pounds is required on the operator to develop the seating and unseating torques of the valve. Valve operators shall be sized based on valve diameter as indicated on the Project Drawings, materials specified above, and the following system characteristics. c. Maximum non-shock shutoff pressure across the valve of 150 psi. Velocity through valve under normal conditions of 4 fps. Velocity through valve under extreme maximum flow condition of 16 fps. The system can be assumed to have a constant head source. d. Written certification of compliance with ANSI/AWWA C504, pressure class 150B, for each size valve and operator shall be required prior to installation. In addition, state the maximum operating torque, as defined the appendix of AWWA C504, to which each size valve and its operator will be subjected based upon the above information and the torque output rating of each of the above operators G Valve Boxes G. Valve Boxes Valve boxes shall be as indicated on the contract documents or CVB Public Utilities Standard Details H.6 Fire Hydrants I.1 Air Vent Blow Off Assemblies 6. Fire Hydrants shall be Kennedy Model K81- A, Clow Corporation Medallion, American Darling MK 73-1, or Mueller Company Super Centurion Air Vent and Blow Off Assemblies a. Air Vent and Blow Off Assemblies shall be as indicated on the contract documents or CVB Public Utilities Standard Details. b. Castings for Air Vent Blow Off assemblies
5 I.3 Corporation Stops shall be Capitol Foundry Model #VB-1200 or Owner-approved equal. Frame and cover shall weigh at least 140 pounds. 3. Corporation Stops I.4 Service Saddle a. Corporation stops shall be Mueller type H , McDonald 4701, Cambridge 302 or Owner-approved equal. 4. Service Saddle a. For 1-1/2 inch services, use double strap tapping saddles (such as Ford 202, McDonald 3825, Mueller H105 or Cambridge 810 or approved equal) with 1-1/2 inch corporation stop, 1-1/2 inch Type K copper service line and a flanged meter valve (McDonald B, Mueller B or Cambridge 210- H6MF6 or Owner-approved equal) with flanged tailpiece for meter connection. b. For 2 inch services, use double strap tapping saddles (such as Ford 202, McDonald 3825, Mueller H105 or Cambridge 810 or Ownerapproved equal) with 2 inch corporation stop, 2 inch Type K copper service line and a flanged meter valve (McDonald 4602-B, Mueller B or Cambridge 210-H7MF7 or Owner-approved equal) with flanged tailpiece for meter connection J.3 Water Meters K.2.b Mechanical Joints 3. Meter boxes shall be Capitol Foundry Model MBX-1 heavy duty for 12-inch depth and MBX- 2 heavy duty for 18-inch depth. b. Mechanical Joints M Sleeves and Couplings : Shall meet requirements of ANSI/AWWA C111/A21.11 and be on the CVB Public Utilities Approved Products list. 7. Service couplings or unions shall be included on

9 staging area. The staging area shall have the appropriate erosion and sediment control including but not limited to construction entrance and silt fence. Chain link fence at 8-feet in height shall be installed around the perimeter of the staging area. The staging area shall be maintained at all times including cleaning the street and gutter pans by removing any debris, trash, sediment, etc. The Contractor shall take pre-construction photos of the staging area. 530 III.A.5 Measurement Demobilization, site restoration, general cleaning of the project area, removal of traffic control, removal of erosion and sediment control devices, and postconstruction photos will be required upon completion of project. 5. Abandonment of existing pipelines larger than 2- inch diameter will be paid for at the unit price per linear foot for the pipe size abandoned or, per cubic yard of flowable fill as indicated on the Bid form. Payment shall include the cost of the following: a. Excavation b. Dewatering c. Pumping of flowable fill, if specified d. Compaction e. Grouting existing openings at connections to existing manholes to remain f. Disposing of surplus or unsuitable materials 530 III.E Measurement : 3. The abandonment of mainline cleanouts shall be measured and paid as each and shall include excavation, removal, disposal or salvage of castings, placement of flowable fill, backfilling with suitable material, compacting, pavement patching, disposing of surplus or unsuitable material, top soiling, seeding, restoration and cleanup of property and for furnishing all materials, labor, tools, equipment and incidentals necessary to complete the work.
