1 Silicone Sealants Guide What is a Sealant? A sealant is a substance that is extruded into the joint and seals it by sticking to the different surfaces. What is a joint? A joint is where the different building materials are put together. Why use a sealant? To compensate for movements between construction elements. Protect against water, humidity, draught and noise. Improve optical/aesthetical appearance. What does it mean when we say low or high modulus? If you have a joint where the sides will move a lot or over a large distance you need a LOW MODULUS Sealant (eg L/W PVCu glazing frames). If you wish to prevent the two sides of a joint moving you need a MID/HIGH MODULUS sealant (structural glazing joint). Ceresit 3E Multi Purpose - Acetoxy An easy to use one component sealant that forms a flexible seal and has excellent resistance to severe weathering conditions. It bonds well to clean uncoated glass, ceramics and most glazed non-porous surfaces. It presents excellent stability to temperature variations (-30 to +120 ), UV rays, rain and snow. 2 Ceresit 3B Bonding & Glazing - Acetoxy A one component sealant that cures rapidly to form a permanently flexible and extremely durable weathertight seal. Allows joint movement throughout a wide temperature range. This bonds strongly to clean uncoated glass, ceramics and glazed or painted surfaces without the need to prime. After cure the sealant will be resistant to many acids and salt spray and will tolerate short exposure to most industrial solvents & hydrocarbon based products. This is a high modulus sealant for use on applications where joint loads are high and where relative movement between substrates is minimised. When used on external joints a weather tight seal and high integrity will result. Quick skinning and curing time. Applications: All classical glazing joints, doors and window frames, cladding and curtain wall, construction, portable buildings, caravans and containers, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC). 5 Ceresit 10B Construction Glazing - Alcoxy This is a one component, odourless, ready to use neutral silicone intended to produce sealing and bonding joints. With a low modulus elasticity, it generates low strain on bonding surfaces and gives a longer life to seals. 10B can be used on clear glass, layered glass and all other glazed surfaces, metals, wood ( painted or otherwise), PVC, polycarbonates, ABS, concrete, granite and marble. Does not generally stain surfaces, however testing on sensitive surfaces like marble or stone is recommended. Applications: Traditional construction (expansion and stability joints). Light prefabrication (curtain walls, metal coving). Flooring joints (concrete slabs, motorways, airport runways). Perimeter seals in aluminium, wooden, PVC frames. Adheres to virtually all surfaces found in the building construction including porous surfaces and accepts movement of 25% with a wide temperature range. This can be used on clear glass, layered glass and all other glazed surfaces, metals, wood ( painted or otherwise), PVC, polycarbonates, concrete, granite and marble. 10T does not generally cause staining of surfaces. 8 Polyurethane Sealant Siroflex Polyflex HM A one component high modulus polyurethane sealant, it has excellent adhesion to most building substrates. Fast curing with permanent and durable elasticity and is non staining to brickwork. It is paintable and has first rate resistance to water and UV rays and has permanent elasticity under all climate conditions. Applications: Interior and exterior waterproof joints in building and metal constructions. Gluing sealing, mounting, anchoring in industry and building applications. Joints between wooden, metal, aluminium or PVCu frames and masonry. Expansion joints in industrial floors and periphery sealing in swimming pools. Surface preparation: Joint walls must be sound, clean, dry and free from oil and grease. Curing compound residues and any other foreign matter must be thoroughly removed. Joint Pro Applicator Kit This multifunctional tool can be used for finish many flexible sealants and caulks. The kit includes 3 tools giving a variety of angles and various joint dimensions. No need for preparation using masking tape. After application the area around the joint is neat and needs no cleaning. 10 Fire Rated Silicone ZWALUW FP Fire Retardant Silicone A one part oxime cure, fire retardant silicone, tested according to EN1366-4, with up to 4 hours of fire resistance. Good resistance to UV, water and weather and resists fungus and vermin. Applications: Specifically developed for fire resistant sealing of connection and expansion joints in constructions, and should have a certain fire resistance in case of fire. Fire Retardant Foam SX Flameguard Fire Rated Polyurethane Foam A single component flame retardant B1 quality foam which is applied using an applicator nozzle or by gun. It has proven fire resistance of up to 80 minutes for a gap width of 10mm. It is used for gap filling and sealing of partition walls. The foam has been tested according to NEN6069:1997 in association with pren 1366 Part 4. 12 Foam Polyurethane Foam Illbruck foam is a one component polyurethane expanding foam that cures by the absorption of water vapour from the air. Low post expansion improves accuracy of delivery, reduces foam wastage and minimises cutting time. Rapid curing formulation; foam is tack free within 10 minutes and can be cut or trimmed within 45 minutes. Foam is suitable for general gap filling, bonding and insulation applications.
